You know, if you just ignore POOTWH and his batshit crazy cult and media enablers, it’ll all just go away and things will return to normal, intellectual honesty and assumptions of good faith notwithstanding.

The suggestion that we shouldn’t talk about the most watched cable news network because everyone knows they’re full of shit doesn’t really track for me.

No - the point is we should move on to more substantive discussion. Driving by the car crash and pointing at it doesn't do any good. This thread is full of Twitter wackiness posted by ladies who take it from instagram while hiking, or something.

OK, Fox News is full of shit. Now what? it's been full of shit for decades. If the point is to vent, cool. I would have thought everyone would have had enough of that by now. Al Franken wrote about this like 30 years ago. Let's jump up a level. We've got the who and the what. Now let's figure out the why and the how. Or not, whatever.

What am I still doing here? Yelling at the people about them yelling at the people is a painting of a painting. Feel free to ignore me.

I’ll ask you a question or two: are POOTWH followers/voters in a cult and if so, what %? What role has media, both traditional and old school and new school social, played in where we are today? Did Russia Russia Russia interfere in the 2016 election and was the 2020 election stolen from POOTWH?

If you want to have a conversation, have a conversation. If you want to complain, complain. It’s still a free country the last time I checked but it may not be for long.

A thread about Trump will not be, by definition, substantive.  What are you going to say to advance the understanding of his legal strategy, or political strategy?  Is this some great Svengali at work?  No, he's a cretin.  If you want to have a better debate, join the discussions when we talk about student loan forgiveness, monetary policy, Ukraine, etc.  There are threads for that.  You're not going to get smarter on this thread.

I tried and was roundly booed out of the room for questioning whether the NYC fraud case was beneficial to the cause.

I tried and was told that someone in a podcast said the Fani Willis stuff was made up nonsense.

I tried and was told that who cares why George Conway flipped, all that matters is he did.

Q: are POOTWH followers/voters in a cult and if so, what %? What role has media, both traditional and old school and new school social, played in where we are today?
A: Yes, a portion of this country has had their brain broken by the internet, but it's small enough that it should act as a millstone around the neck of the Republicans, i.e. big enough to be pandered to, but small enough not to matter in an election. I don't know what percentage. I recommend It Came From Something Awful by Dale Beran.

Q: Did Russia Russia Russia interfere in the 2016 election and was the 2020 election stolen from POOTWH?
A: Sorry, is this some sort of litmus test for me? I would think where I stand is clear by now. Russia interfered in the election, I think, but we all missed the mark on it. The Facebook shenanigans they pulled were relatively small potatoes and they came at it from both sides. Operatives definitely seemed to try and make inroads with the Trump campaign, but frankly he was too stupid to actually realize how to leverage the help they were offering. And to my point about the NYC fraud case, the miss on Russia sucked the oxygen out of the room on Ukraine, which is where he should have been impeached the first time. I fear this is going to happen again with the Jack Smith case, and the polling backs this up
Of course the 2020 election wasn't stolen. Again, I hate Trump. I've said it a bunch in this forum. But we keep coming at him, failing, and turning our attention to Twitter ownage.

Well look,, you can't expect everyone to agree with your opinion.  No one booed you out. No one told you not to post, they just disagreed. People are going to do that here. They disagree with me on monetary and tax issues all of the time.  I'm against strident loan forgiveness and the outlier around here.

This is very fair and I'm being a bit dramatic, but I should point out that no matter how much I contribute to this thread, if you pick at any of the prevailing logic or group think here it's assumed you're a kook (see the guy who just asked me if I thought the 2020 election was stolen).

To the other point about this thread not having any substance on purpose, that's also fair. I should move on. It's not like I'm not busy, it's just that my brain is as broken as anyone's and something draws me into this nonsense. I came here for Lost Dogs and should try and remember that.

I’ll respond in more detail to your response to my initial questions but why is asking someone if they believe the 2020 election was stolen somehow indicates that I think you’re a kook, when 70+% of registered repubs believe it to be true? Up until now, I had no clue what you believe. And it’s not like you’ve been a prolific poster in this thread so we “know” where you’re coming from.

And yes, posters are going to disagree with your opinion, spin or take. I’m happy to explain to you why I disagree or agree with you. Nobody is chasing you out of here.

Well - I have posted quite a bit in this thread, and you don't have to read my recent responses too closely to see where I'm coming from. Do these seem like they're coming from inside a right wing bubble:
"Fox News has always been a right wing megaphone, more concerned with winning than intellectual honesty.
Trump voters have never cared about anything other than cultural wars that don't personally affect them."

"OK, Fox News is full of shit. Now what? it's been full of shit for decades."

"Cards on the table - I despise Trump, but this civil fraud case is stupid, and if he skates the unseriousness of it will be mixed into the larger stew of "everyone against Trump" narrative."

"I mean Biden probably is the most progressive president in history other than maybe FDR, but we're dealing with a very low bar.

He's forgiven a massive amount of problematic student loans.
He's passed, through the Inflation Reduction Act, the most progressive environmental policy in our history.
He pulled us out of Afghanistan.
He changed Medicare Part D to allow for negotiation and price control on prescription drugs.
He tried to pass a massive policing bill which was shut down in Congress.

I view all of these as accomplishments, but if you were hoping to have someone who had no agenda and just sent troops to the border then I guess you could be disappointed."

It's hard to have a conversation when that's the foundation you're coming from.

Respectfully, you joined a month ago and have largely just complained about this message board ever since. Hard to have a conversation with someone who keeps making it about himself and his grandiloquent battle with the people he claims to want to have a conversation with.

Because otherwise there would be no need to point out that Fox News is more interested in Swifties than the border, and a million other examples.

What am I even doing in this thread? Egad, I have actual other stuff to do!
Yeah, Fox news blows, but plenty of their viewers think this is a coordinated effort.

This is the first time I've criticized the Board, but considering how many posts I have, when you put it as a percentage I'll take the note for sure.

EDIT - Also I had to google grandiloquent, which I'll take as a compliment.

Okay. Let’s talk about how the media can be an arm of authoritarian leaders.

Feel free to add substance to the conversation rather than complaining about the posts.

If you think the only thing Russia did was facebook ads, then I guess that is a good litmus test

    Well, no.

He won the election, essentially, by about 70,000 votes across three states. That's not small potatoes...that's something that swung the Supreme Court for potentially 40 some years. Facebook played a large role in influencing how those people voted.

I tried and was roundly booed out of the room for questioning whether the NYC fraud case was beneficial to the cause. It depends on what "the cause" is. I think the NY case is relevant to the cause of rule of law and holding those who have deemed to have broken the law accountable via a jury trial, or as POOTWH has selected for the E. Jean Carol trial, a bench trial. You appear, with how you framed the topic, to be more concerned with the "political cause." That's a mistake and what POOTWH wants you to think.

I tried and was told that someone in a podcast said the Fani Willis stuff was made up nonsense. What Fani Willis stuff was deemed nonsense by what podcast. She had an affair with an underling. So what? Its not a good look and certainly will have an impact and repercussions but if you're objective, it doesn't change the facts of the case and how those facts will be presented to a jury. Remember, there are tapes.

I tried and was told that who cares why George Conway flipped, all that matters is he did. Did he flip? I'm not sure we know definitively whether he did or not. In my mind, you have to be facing criminal indictment to "flip." Was he facing indictment or charges? Or did he just come out strongly as anti-POOTWH and won't support the current version of the repub party?

Q: are POOTWH followers/voters in a cult and if so, what %? What role has media, both traditional and old school and new school social, played in where we are today?
A: Yes, a portion of this country has had their brain broken by the internet, but it's small enough that it should act as a millstone around the neck of the Republicans, i.e. big enough to be pandered to, but small enough not to matter in an election. I don't know what percentage. I recommend It Came From Something Awful by Dale Beran (it was no accident)To dismiss this as an ineffectual or meaningless impact on elections based on the number of potential votes changed/influenced/or not voting, shows either your lack of understanding of electoral politics, foreign interference and the effect of social media to change outcomes. Have you read the senate intelligence committee report on election interference and the Team Mueller report, inclusive of footnotes? If you had or have, then you should be drawing a different conclusion. Add Faux News, the NRA political contributions from Maria Butina, etc. etc. etc. and its not difficult to see how putin on the ritz is winning. What % of POOTWH supporters do you think are part of his cult? I've pegged it at 35% t0 40% of his base. Others are as high as 70% of repubs while others think its much lower. Where do you peg the number?

Q: Did Russia Russia Russia interfere in the 2016 election and was the 2020 election stolen from POOTWH?
A: Sorry, is this some sort of litmus test for me? I would think where I stand is clear by now. Where you stand is not made clear by whether you believe, like 70+% of repubs that the 2020 election was stolen. Russia interfered in the election, I think, You think or you know? but we all missed the mark on it How so? Team Mueller got it right. The repub senate intelligence committee got it right. You think? Does that mean you "don't know" or are unsure?. The Facebook shenanigans they pulled were relatively small potatoes and they came at it from both sides. Operatives definitely seemed Seemed? How about did make in roads? You don't recall the very focused polling data shared with putin on the ritz? You don't recall the narrow victories in key states? You don't recall, "Russia, if you're listening?" to try and make inroads with the Trump campaign, but frankly he was too stupid to actually realize how to leverage the help they were offering. And to my point about the NYC fraud case, the miss on Russia The miss on Russia? You mean Bill DISbarred's calling off Team Mueller and the 4 page synopsis of shutting it down? sucked the oxygen out of the room on Ukraine, which is where he should have been impeached the first time Ummm, POOTWH was impeached the first time and like the second time, a repub senate with no balls and knowing POOTWH was guilty, didn't have the courage to convict. Did you watch any of the impeachment hearings?. I fear this is going to happen again with the Jack Smith case, and the polling backs this up Last time I checked, polling didn't determine whether criminal charges are filed or juries convict. POOTWH is toast in the documents case if the judge can be forced to to try it. POOTWH fucked with the wrong people on that one. But, its still up to our legal system to determine but you know, the fix is kinda in.
Of course the 2020 election wasn't stolen. Again, I hate Trump. I've said it a bunch in this forum. But we keep coming at him, failing, and turning our attention to Twitter ownage. You claim to hate POOTWH but your expressed viewpoints seem to offer sympathy or a willingness to look away because its difficult, or it doesn't help "the cause", whatever your cause is (mine is the Constitution and the rule of law, something the repubs in Tejas seem to not care about anymore based on the actions of their Abbott & Costello and Hulk AG). Twitter is a sewer but sometimes comical like the guy in his car crying about some purported outrage or another. I prefer facts and courtroom testimony and original transcripts.

See my responses in BOLD above to each of your points. But I'll state that its hard to have a conversation with someone who drops into it almost 7 years and 2,953 combined pages among 5 separate threads, some closed, including this one and then takes it personally or a sign of labeling someone, as expressed through complaining. Read back from page 1 to present if you want to know where some of us are coming from. To expect us to respond to something you post after we may have discussed the topic for days back in 2017, 2018 and 2019 is not "booing you out of here" but rather "been there and done that." Catch up if you want to know our individual thoughts on the subject matter at hand. We're a patient bunch. See above.

Feel free to respond. Or not.

In pointing out the hypocrisy, there is the off chance that someone within that bubble that also might visit here either read only or participate would be curious enough to check out the things we're pointing out.

Slim chance, but a chance nonetheless

Faux News has moved far beyond "intellectual honesty" and "being full of shit." To dismiss it as such is dangerous. See Smartmatic.

Were POOTWH supporters storming the capitol because of cultural war nonsense? Thats another dismissal to the seriousness of what is at hand.

Full of shit for decades is not recognizing the impact and dangerousness of what and how they do what they do. Again, seems to be another off-hand dismissal.

Civil fraud is stupid? And you want me to take you seriously? "Everyone against POOTWH" implies that he bears no responsibility for where he finds himself. He could take the stand immediately and clear his good name. But to you, its stupid and "everyone is out to get him?" C'mon man!

Brandon is not all that progressive, unless you believe that honoring treaties like pulling out of Afghanistan is progressive.

All of the Brandon stuff is centrist democrat and only seems progressive because of how far right the right has swung. Polling will illustrate this. Progressive would have been passing the Green New Deal, not that it was legislation but policy goals over time espoused by a scary strong Latina woman elected to congress. Boo!

Why is it hard to have a conversation? Is it because posters disagree with you or haven't responded to your posts? I truly don't understand the complaining. But thats just me. Feel free to reply. Or not.
