so trump is going to springfield, ohio next week. after being asked not to come by the mayor.

i don't see how anything good can come from this. vance and trump have terrorized that town.

i don't live there and it fucking pisses me off. this is like if senator eric schmitt shit all over my town and caused that havoc to happen here. he represents us and should be helping instead of lying about this issue. what vance is doing is criminal.
Tax paying residents should march on city hall and the po-po and demand that they don’t lift a finger to provide any kind of police responsibility other than normal day to day policing. Let POOTWH know he’s welcome but not special and if he wants extra security, to provide it himself or pay for others to provide it. Maybe the KKK or the bikers will step up? Otherwise, you’re on your own. Let the schnivles begin.

Nothing captures the height of maga stupidity quite like this. These fucking idiot cultists have complained about inflation and higher rates for over two years. Blaming Biden at every stop (completely not understand that the entire world was dealing with the same issue.

Now that the inflation rate is down and rates are finally being cut, what do they do? They fucking boo. If this isn't proof that all they care about is Trump over their own well being, I don't know what else you need to see.

MAGA Fans at Vance Rally Boo Rate Cut That Will ‘Alleviate Inflation’

A crowd assembled to hear Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance speak on Wednesday reacted strongly to a reporter’s question about the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates by half a percentage point, booing as the journalist pointed out that the move would take the strain off Americans struggling with rising prices.

“Just on the Fed cutting—it’s a very Wall Street Journal-y question, but the Fed cut the interest rate today by a half a percentage point,” the reporter can be heard saying in footage of the Raleigh, North Carolina. rally, “[that’s] going to alleviate inflation for a lot of people. And so if you have any reaction to that?”

As the audience jeered, Vance replied, “Look, my reaction is… half a point is nothing compared to what American families have been dealing with for the last three years.”

He smirked as the crowd whipsawed in the other direction, cheering.

The Fed’s decision to lower interest rates by 50 basis points is its first such move since the early days of the pandemic, and comes after nearly two years of steady increases—11 times, for a total of 5.25 percentage points.

An aggressive but widely expected move, the announcement is nevertheless a watershed moment for both the American economy and consumers on the ground, who should start to feel some financial strain taken off their wallets as the effects of the cut take hold. Lower interest rates make it less expensive to purchase goods, buy a house, or expand a business. They also inevitably lead to inflation as the market grows—hence the need for raising interest rates.

But the pivot is an indicator of the central bank’s belief that the worst of inflation is over, as well as a stopgap measure for a slowing economy. It is unclear if more cuts are on the way, but Fed chairman Jerome Powell indicated on Wednesday that it was at least a possibility.

“We’re going to take it meeting by meeting,” Powell said, according to The New York Times. “We made a good, strong start to this, and that is frankly a sign of our confidence, confidence that inflation is coming down.”

Trump Goes After the Fed for ‘Playing Politics’ With Historic Rate Cut

Officials on both sides of the aisle used strikingly similar language in hailing the decision as a win, with Vice President Kamala Harris calling it “welcome news for Americans who have borne the brunt of high prices” and Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson as “welcome news for consumers.”

Johnson tempered his reaction by challenging the Fed’s timing, calling it “suspect” that rates were slashed “right on the eve of an election.”

Former President Donald Trump ran with that line of questioning during a Wednesday pitstop at a so-called “bitcoin bar” in New York City.

“I guess it shows the economy is very bad to cut it by that much, assuming they’re not just playing politics,” Trump said, referring to the central bank. “The economy would be very bad, or they’re playing politics, one or the other. But it was a big cut.”

Losers are right. And suckers too. Low information, no clue how things work, dare I say, racist, because what else can it be? Policy? That’s just dumb. And fuck the teamsters who support POOTWH. We know why. My apologies for this not being an Instagram. Get ready for the cackle. From Letter From An American:

In the presidential debate of September 10, Trump admitted that after nine years of promising he would release a new and better healthcare plan than the Affordable Care Act in just a few weeks, all he really had were “concepts of a plan.” Vance has begun to explain to audiences that he intends to separate people into different insurance pools according to their health conditions and risk levels. That business model meant that insurers could refuse to insure people with pre-existing conditions, and overturning it was a key driver of the ACA.

Senate and House Republicans told Peter Sullivan of Axios that if they regain control of the government, they will work to get rid of the provision in the Inflation Reduction Act that permits the government to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies over drug prices. Negotiations on the first ten drugs, completed in August, will lower the cost of those drugs enough to save taxpayers $6 billion a year, while those enrolled in Medicare will save $1.5 billion in out-of-pocket expenses.

Yesterday Trump promised New Yorkers that he would restore the state and local tax deduction (SALT) that he himself capped at $10,000 in his 2017 tax cuts. In part, the cap was designed to punish Democratic states that had high taxes and higher government services, but now he wants to appeal to voters in those same states. On CNBC, host Joe Kernan pointed out that this would blow up the deficit, but House speaker Mike Johnson said that the party would nonetheless consider such a measure because it would continue to stand behind less regulation and lower taxes.

In a conversation with Arkansas governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, his former press secretary, Trump delivered another stream of consciousness commentary in which he appeared to suggest that he would lower food prices by cutting imports. Economics professor Justin Wolfers noted: “I'm exhausted even saying it, but blocking supply won't reduce prices, and it's not even close.” Sarah Longwell of The Bulwark added, “Tell me more about why you have to vote for Trump because of his ‘policies.’”

Trump has said he supports in vitro fertilization, or IVF, as have a number of Republican lawmakers, but today, 44 Republican senators once again blocked the Senate from passing a measure protecting it. The procedure is in danger from state laws establishing “fetal personhood,” which give a fertilized egg all the rights of a human being as established by the Fourteenth Amendment. That concept is in the 2024 Republican Party platform.

Trump has also demanded that Republicans in Congress shut down the government unless a continuing resolution to fund the government contains the so-called SAVE Act requiring people to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Speaker Johnson continues to suggest that undocumented immigrants vote in elections, but it is illegal for even documented noncitizens to do so, and Aaron Reichlin-Melnick of the nonprofit American Immigration Council notes that even the right-wing Heritage Foundation has found only 12 cases of such illegal voting in the past 40 years.

Johnson brought the continuing resolution bill with the SAVE Act up for a vote today. It failed by a vote of 202 to 220. If the House and then the Senate don’t pass a funding bill, the government will shut down on October 1.

Republican endorsements of the Harris-Walz ticket continue to pile up. On Monday, six-term representative Bob Inglis (R-SC) told the Charleston City Paper that “Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to the republic” and said he would vote for Harris. “If Donald Trump loses, that would be a good thing for the Republican Party,” Inglis said. “Because then we could have a Republican rethink and get a correction.”

George W. Bush’s attorney general Alberto Gonzales, conservative columnist George Will, more than 230 former officials for presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, and 17 former staff members for Ronald Reagan have all recently added their names to the list of those supporting Harris. Today more than 100 Republican former members of Congress and national security officials who served in Republican administrations endorsed Harris, saying they “firmly oppose the election of Donald Trump.” They cited his chaotic governance, his praising of enemies and undermining allies, his politicizing the military and disparaging veterans, his susceptibility to manipulation by Russian president Vladimir Putin, and his attempt to overthrow democracy. They praised Harris for her consistent championing of “the rule of law, democracy, and our constitutional principles.”

Yesterday, singer-songwriters Billie Eilish, who has 119 million followers on Instagram, and Finneas, who has 4.2 million, asked people to register and to vote for Harris and Walz. “Vote like your life depends on it,” Eilish said, “because it does.”

Fact check: 12 completely fictional stories Trump has told in the last month

Former President Donald Trump is littering his public remarks with fictional stories.

This isn’t run-of-the-mill political spin, the kind of statistic-twisting and accomplishment-exaggerating that political candidates of all stripes engage in. Rather, the Republican presidential nominee is telling colorful lies that are completely untethered to reality.

Now that the inflation rate is down and rates are finally being cut, what do they do? They fucking boo. If this isn't proof that all they care about is Trump over their own well being, I don't know what else you need to see.

It was never about inflation, or the economy, or blue lives, or crime or any other issue they pretend to care about.

It's always been about hating the right people. That's always been his appeal, it's that simple.
Yep. There are some people for whom it's genuinely *about* the economy, but they are people who don't understand even the most basic things about how the economy works. And then there are some rich people who understand the economy and recognize the con but just want the lowest possible taxes and will tolerate anything else as long as they get them.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Although many in the teamsters don't know it, the stock market (and likely their pensions) does. Can't wait for this to be a penny stock.

If all these POOTWH supporters are so smart and sure of him, why don’t they convert all their savings and investments into “Truth”Social and the new cryptocurrency POOTWH is plugging, in addition to the EFT cards? Riddle me that? Maybe our resident Indy can explain?

The "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT" thing is such a microcosm of this guy's nature. Swift didn't do anything except say that she was voting for Harris. She didn't, as has been widely misreported, tell anyone else whom to vote for. She didn't even say anything bad about Trump. But supporting the other candidate is enough to warrant "HATE." If she said she was voting for him, he'd love her. Two weeks ago, when he retweeted the fake AI Swift endorsement of her, he was proud to have it. She's the exact same person today as she was two weeks ago, but now Trump (and MAGA) hates her. A New York Times poll out today showed that 70 percent of Democrats have a favorable view of Swift, but only 23 percent of Republicans do. It's so ridiculous.

Here's a bit of news from one of our finest journalists and a national treasure, Mr. Dan Rather, for those few here who think they can somehow make us believe Trump is a better choice for us as far as the economy is concerned:

News Trump Doesn’t Want You to Hear

Stocks soar, interest rates fall. Will it help Harris?

Donald Trump doesn’t want you to focus on the economy, because the news is very good. Instead he is talking about anything else, including bald-faced lies, to keep the focus on him and his faux outrage. Filed under you-can’t-make-it-up, Republicans are blaming “Democratic rhetoric” for the latest apparent assassination attempt on Trump. All the while Trump and JD Vance are making up stories out of whole cloth that are inciting so much hate and potential violence that an Ohio city is virtually on lockdown.

Here now is some actual news Trump hopes you won’t hear. Too bad.

Yesterday the Federal Reserve cut interest rates for the first time in four and a half years. It did so because inflation is under control, having fallen for 11 consecutive months, and to encourage more job growth. I say “more job growth” because the Republicans would have you believe we are teetering on the precipice of recession, when in fact unemployment is at 4%. The job market is growing, just not at the same rate it has been.

When announcing the rate cut, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that “our economy is strong overall and has made significant progress toward our goals over the past two years.”

Republicans’ reaction to the cut was as expected. They did not praise the Fed or celebrate the good economic news. Instead, they ranted over the timing, saying it was designed to help Kamala Harris’s campaign. Another distraction.

Powell dismissed their argument. “We do our work to serve all Americans. We’re not serving any politician, any political figure, any cause, any issue, nothing. It’s just maximum employment and price stability on behalf of all Americans,” he said. Remember, too, that Powell was a Trump appointee.

During the Biden-Harris administration,14.8 million jobs have been created, including a whopping 800,000 manufacturing jobs. The sharp increase in the manufacturing sector has added an estimated $12 trillion to the U.S. economy. Over the same time period, 10 million new small businesses were started. The stock market is at historic highs, which in turn has meant good things for folks’ 401(k)s. Gas prices are trending downward; the nationwide average for a gallon of regular unleaded is now less than $3. Mortgage rates and car loans have started falling, and this rate cut will continue that trend.

Trump seems incapable of talking about his economic plans. When his campaign has promised a press conference or speech on the economy, Trump stays on message for about a New York minute and then pivots to his lie du jour.

One can piece together Trump’s ideas from various things he has said during this long campaign. Economists across the political spectrum have denounced most of it. Desmond Lachman of the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute calls Trump’s economic ideas “dangerous.”

“There is every reason to fear that if Trump were to be elected and to implement his proposed economic policies, the American electorate might soon have buyer’s remorse as it bore the economic costs,” Lachman wrote.

Trump’s favorite plan for the economy is a huge, unfunded tax cut for corporations and wealthy individuals. That went so well the last time. His 2017 tax cut coupled with major Trump-approved government spending increases resulted in an almost 50% increase in the budget deficit, of $1 trillion. But you ain’t seen nothing yet. The Penn Wharton budget model predicts that Trump’s new tax cuts would add more than $5 trillion to the budget deficit over 10 years. That’s five times more than the last one.

Trump also wants to impose a huge tariff on imported goods. The Peterson Institute of International Economics calculated that the tariffs would cost an average American household $2,600 a year. Vice President Harris rightly called this a “Trump tax” during the debate. Goldman Sachs said the tariffs would significantly increase inflation.

And if you think imposing tariffs makes no economic sense, how about Trump’s plan to bring food prices down by restricting food imports? Yup, Trump believes that reducing supply will somehow lower prices. Economics 101 says otherwise.

And then there is his promise to deport 10 million immigrants. Beside the moral issues with this racist proposal, the mass deportation would cause a significant slowdown in our economy, including a spike in wages and prices.

In sum, Trump has said he wants to restrict food imports and deport many who harvest our crops. Good luck with that.

When Joe Biden was running for reelection, one of his biggest challenges was Americans’ perceptions of how he handled the economy. A majority gave him low marks, while many believed Trump had managed the economy well. Harris has been steadily closing the gap. A Morning Consult poll out today has Harris and Trump tied on their handling of the economy. No wonder Trump wants to talk about anything else.

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.
