Although you are right anything could backfire but what should the DA do, ignore a clear crime? Legally it appears there is an irrefutable crime here.
If trumps argument prevails, that he did this for personal reasons, then he is screwed for lying to conspire to commit tax fraud, by calling the bribe “legal fees” to deduct on his business taxes. If not for personal reasons, then it’s an illegal contribution to his campaign because the campaign benefitted by stormy keeping quiet. If trumps argument prevails, that he did this for personal reasons, then he is screwed for lying to conspire to commit tax fraud, by calling the bribe “legal fees” to deduct on his business taxes. If not for personal reasons, then it’s an illegal contribution to his campaign because the campaign benefitted by stormy keeping quiet. Either way, it’s a crime, despite the confusion expressed by some posters here.
