Does a cover of ritfw mean anything to the band or audience after 30 plus years?
As I've said for at least the last 10 years they should never play this song again. For one it's not even in NY top 50 songs and I don't care that it's a sing along, they have other sing alongs they can play. Better yet how about just play a damn PJ song instead and for the people that like this song still(I don't know what to tell you) I've seen it many times including NY show he took over basically in Toledo and I've seen a crazy version with Bono in Toronto in 2005 so there has been times it was cool but, c'mon no-one ever needs to hear this song again! Last RITFW rant ever from me. Hope it was a GREAT show for everyone there🙏😎❤️
Please no more rants on this .just be greaful they are a band touring

trees, people are giving their personal opinion. To say, please no more rants, is censoring, not cool. Its a set list discussion. Please no attacks on others trees...other opinions are just that, other opinions, just like yours.

Last thing I'm going to say and it's my opinion only...I can get used to the shorter sets and length of the shows and the main-sets have been good to great but, again if they don't mix up these encores none of these latter day shows in their career are ever going to become legendary and isn't that what made this band legendary?!
Have said a variation of this before but maybe what made this band legendary is the fact that each member is among the best to ever do what they’re doing? Vedder is one of the best rock singers ever. Gossard wrote arguably the most memorable rock riffs of the last 30 years. McCready is among the best rock lead guitarists ever. Ament among the best bass players of his generation. Cameron widely considered among the best rock drummers ever. Their first four records are stone cold classics and plenty of great material followed. Some of this band’s best shows are 25 songs or less, at or under two hours.

Sometimes I wonder if y’all go to the shows to watch a great band or if you go so you can add some song to your personal list. You really need to hear Bee Girl or whatever? You really need a three-hour show with six covers and 1/3 of the songs played sloppily? I’m good with two hours of tight, great performances.

How do you define legendary? Someone saw Pearl Jam for the first time today and loved it and will remember it. That’s pretty cool.

If you don’t wanna travel the world seeing the band anymore because you’re worried you might see the same encore, cool. Start a fund for people who’ve never seen the band and can’t afford tickets and let them enjoy it. Or take the thousands of dollars you’ll save and buy a real nice guitar and amp and teach yourself how to play Strangest Tribe if you wanna hear it so bad.

Jesus. A year ago we didn’t know if there’d be tours again. Everything still feels extremely tenuous. Try to have a little perspective.

You obviously didn't read anything I stated as in were good with the main sets and they've gotten better, I also stated I'm good with the shorter sets and length it's right in my op that you responded on!!! What my point and what a lot of peolple don't understand is with so many great songs why is there basically a rotation of 8-10 songs covering anywhere from 4-6 songs in the encore??? They made their reputation on diversity and ending their shows with great encores, usually multiple encores and yeah YL has been played to death also but, it's a PJ song unlike RITFW. That's it, it's really not that difficult to grasp❤️

This for me anyways is where the shows have fallen short, it's not been the main-set or not enough songs or length of the shows but, these encores have just been boring and I don't care if I'm there or not. I've been to enough shows to have this opinion, make the encores BETTER!
    Your  demands are just rude

Having an opinion is ok. However, the way this opinion was announced feels rude to me, too.

I was there last night and let me just add that RITW got possibly the biggest response of the night. House lights were on, Eddie was really into it and the crowd went absolutely batshit for it.

I have no issue with how often it gets played, especially when the energy is like it was last night. That shit is life changing!

Does a cover of ritfw mean anything to the band or audience after 30 plus years?
It should. It’s a protest song and right now the world needs more of them.

As much as I’d prefer an all-PJ songs set list, they should be busting out Masters Of War every night on this tour.

Man you just can’t accept people having an opinion on the set lists. The set list was always a HUGE part of this band. They’ve been discussed, praised, critiqued, picked apart etc…. Forever. Get over it
Y’all do it in every thread. It’s so tedious.
Do what? Discuss the set lists? What are we here for?

Discuss all you want.. but having THE SAME argument over and over again seems pointless..

I can complain too.. about how PJ seems to ignore the entire latter half of their careers if they don't want to be known as a nostalgia act (minus Gigaton.. for now)

Not everything is perfect, but posting the same complaints again and again seems like a waste of time

Wonder what the overlap is between people who complain about every single set and people who "NEED" a ticket to the just-announced rescheduled Apollo show. I bet the Venn diagram is pretty close to a full circle.
    Make the same complaints..

The praise is pretty damn the same too.
You still owe me Human Clay on CD!
Don't remember the context. But I owe a lot of people Human Clay on CD. The day they come to collect, I'm a dead man.

And??? So confused by this. Are we not allowed discuss the set list unless it’s praise?
Discuss all you want.. but having THE SAME argument over and over again seems pointless..

I can complain too.. about how PJ seems to ignore the entire latter half of their careers if they don't want to be known as a nostalgia act (minus Gigaton.. for now)

Not everything is perfect, but posting the same complaints again and again seems like a waste of time
As does complaining about the complaints....

I was there last night and let me just add that RITW got possibly the biggest response of the night. House lights were on, Eddie was really into it and the crowd went absolutely batshit for it.

I have no issue with how often it gets played, especially when the energy is like it was last night. That shit is life changing!
I get it...being on stage and seeing the reaction probably doesn't get old at all. And if the majority of the crowd likes it that will always be a good call to play it.

But I think they would go apeshit for Fucking Up too....

  • As others have said the main set has improved greatly since the start of the tour in California. Nice to see 5 Gigaton songs. The encore is stale. I know things change but I just wish certain songs didn’t have to be played in certain spots. What’s wrong with “alive” at the end of the first set? I remember at the Detroit show in 1998 They played “alive” in the 10th spot (middleish of the first set). Playing “porch” in the 2nd spot was cool. The other night opening with “betterman” was rad. Changing up song positions breaths new life into sets just as much as introducing new songs.

Most of us became super fans of their live show due to the unpredictability. I would be on pins and needles every show wondering what we get in the encore. Would we get a 2nd encore that night. Fun fun stuff.

I'm all for the deep cuts in the encore but I can see the flipside. When I go to watch some other band, especially a big act that I'm probably only gonna see once or twice in my life, I have a certain expectation for the encore.

They played Smile, didn't they? So the "hardcores" did get something...

I understand what you are saying. However, Pearl Jam are the ones that created the unpredictability. If they had always done things a certain way it wouldn’t have been as jarring as this current tour turned out to be. I think that is what people seem to be misunderstanding when people talk about the disappointing setlists.

yes, the hardcores did get “smile” but if you don’t have a problem with the similar encores/sets what were your thoughts years ago when you could go to a show and not get betterman, daughter, small town etc.? Did you leave the show disappointed or did you say to yourself “well, I just need to see them again”?

That depends if you're the type of fan who would go see the same band multiple times or if you just wanted to see PJ once expecting the hits..

They switched up their sets in Hyde Park and there were people complaining about not getting Black, Small Town etc. on the night they went..

Nothing will please everyone, but a hit heavy encore will leave the largest percentage of the crowd happy.. that matters

Does it matter with them though? They never focused on playing a hit heavy anything and it’s still incredibly difficult to score tickets, especially in certain markets.

The biggest change is the loss of the “first” encore.
The encores they are playing now are like the 2nd encores from before but we are missing that 6-7 song first encore that would have rarer slower songs
