Bezos' letter in WaPo tonight is pathetic. I partially get his point, but it's poorly supported and pushes the blame on us, the readers. Fuck him and Amazon. Done with both. I hope to return to WaPo someday because they still have good journalists, but Lewis is fucking things up with the both sides slant these days. There is some truth to that on a small scale, but the overall consensus is resoundingly clear that Republicans have lost the script or decided to follow the one they found in a dumpster at Trump's failed casino.
I’m not sure I’m able to get beyond his headline. Good lord Jeff, how about trying to restore our trust and faith by making a well argued endorsement? Fucking weak ass shit, it’s too hard to stand up to tyranny by making a strong argument so I’ll just take my ball and go home. No wonder your wife left you. Weak and pathetic.

Yeah, the holier than though approach will work well coming from a billionaire. Did he prep for his op-ed by binge watching A Few Good Men all weekend long? I was also irked when he used "we" when speaking of the journalists at WaPo. Sorry Jeff, you don't get to insert yourself in that collective just because you're the owner.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Machete-wielding teen arrested after group accused of intimidating Democratic supporters at Florida polling station, police say

Caleb James Williams was arrested after allegedly brandishing his weapon at two women, ages 71 and 54, police said.

Police arrested an 18-year-old wielding a machete with an 18-inch blade outside a polling station in Florida on Tuesday, who was part of a group of teenagers accused of intimidating Democratic supporters.

The teenager, Caleb James Williams, was arrested after 4 p.m. when officers were called to the Beaches Branch Library in Neptune Beach.

Williams was arrested on charges of aggravated assault for allegedly brandishing his weapon at two unidentified women, ages 71 and 54, and improper exhibition of a weapon, Neptune Beach Police Department said.

The local Democratic campaign said it was "deeply concerned" about the Tuesday's events, in which it said a group of young men waving signs supporting former President Donald Trump confronted a group holding signs promoting Kamala Harris.

    Thanks!
This was in the Soloman Islands during WWII.  The enlisted men were not supposed to have cameras, but one of my father's buddies had stashed a camera in his gear and was able to procure the chemicals needed to develop the film.  Decades later, when he knew he was dying, the man who took those photographs send them all to my father for safe keeping.  Those photographs are now in the Vallejo Naval & Historical museum on Mare Island, California.

The men and women of this era fought to preserve our freedom.  This is a big reason why it is essential for us to not allow a fascist dictator to take control of our country.

Just curious, what do all see what America is going to look like after next week has come and gone?  It seems as though a lot of people are seeing it as being filled with tons of violence and conflict.  Sorry to say, I think there will be some of that.  But even more so, I wonder if there will just be a lot of exhaustion and ennui no matter what happens.  True, half the people will celebrate while the other half wrings their hands, but when that wears off (like, on a much smaller scale, say the current exhilaration Dodgers fans are feeling, and the let down the Yankees fans like me are feeling), what will come after the partying on one side and the more immediate despair on the other side has passed?
    Just curious.

hard to say...trump isn't in power so he won't be in control like J6.

If he wins it will just be a bunch of flexing and bloviating. The dumbass crew will be unleashed on us (Bannon, Stone, Giuliani, etc.) and will start insulting anyone without a red hat on.

If he loses he will say it's rigged and cry like a little bitch until he dies.

I tend to agree with this.  But I don't think it's anything new.  Big business and the very rich have run most developed countries for quite some time.
But what we are faced with in the coming election is the possibility of Trump being elected back into office and placing yet more power into the hands of the most wealthy and powerful people who will do the most harm to the planet.  The thing a lot of people seem to forget or somehow don't realize is that if we are not more focused on lessening our impact on the planet- things like climate change, over-extraction of natural resources, wildlife habitat, pollution, energy consumption, natural cycles- this planet will become inhospitable in increasingly more places to human life , leading to mass migration and huge numbers of deaths.  I'm not saying this as a bunch of doom-saying. It's just simple fact.  Climate change alone is already having a major impact on our well being.
And I'm not saying the Democratic party and Kamala Harris are the be all and end all champions of the environment.  But with Harris, we'll at least have the minor environmental protections still in place and we will all get to vote again next year.  Neither party has really done enough to reduce carbon in the atmosphere and slow climate change.  But if Trump is elected, all bets are off.  Many, if not most, of the small gains we've made to protect the environment will be retracted.  The problems cause by climate change, pollution, and the disruption of natural cycles will be exacerbated and our children will pay dearly for our foolishness.
I'm not saying any of this to save my ass.  I'm old.  I will be dead.  The children will suffer.  That's just simple fact.

Brian, I appreciate your point of view. I agree. And you are 100% right.
But what can we really do about it?
