Dirty Frank- Really?

Been chasing Dirty Frank for more than 50 shows…. Teased in Boston and scratched out at the Vic. Really disappointed this made its return at a non Pearl Jam show and not for Pearl Jam fans.  Would have also been great to get some of our rescheduled dates before a new band tour.  Honestly, not sure what’s going on here.

  • The dirty frank move is annoying. The more annoying part is that the tour dates are being held until after the Ed tour to maximize Eds theater sales. This is just prioritizing Eds fantasy project over pearl jam and a loyal fanbase that are trying to plan their summer around the return of their favorite band. Reminds me a lot of when Ed cutoff alcohol sales at the Ryman at 9 and continued to drink wine on stage all night. #notforyou

If it wasn’t at a PJ show and not in front of “PJ fans” you really didn’t miss it then did you.

Do we really care about these things?   I’m 100% fine with a greatest hits show the next time I see PJ.

I enjoyed seeing Dirty Frank last night. Ed has a new band now. They do a lot of songs you can't listen to yet and a few covers.

Chad was on drums. That’s why they played Dirty Frank.

To me it’s an obvious choice. It was written when on tour with the RHCP (right?) and his drummer is chad smith.  Maybe it’s a nod to the band he is playing with and not a dig at PJ fans

Tell you what, they played it to perfection! Who’s playing all those tasty leads?!

There's always going to be a little weirdness when Ed's other band plays songs Pearl Jam fans have chased for years. It's ok to feel that way, but always be happy for those who got to hear it is my advice.

Hadn't heard Timeless Melody in a long time either so that was a nice surprise. They were soundchecking Not For You when I was feeding the merch monster so knew we were at least getting that one.  I guess I'm in the minority but I would have loved to have had the full solo album prior to the show. The crowd energy is just different when folks have heard the songs. Regardless it was a fun experience.

Ed even apologized a bit for playing songs we haven’t heard yet.

Why do they schedule the tours like this then? Gigaton was going to tour partially before the album dropped as well. Does the hype from the live shows help drive the album sales which helps drive ticket sales for the remainder of the tour? There must be a secret formula.

OP, here’s to continuing that chase! I wonder if Ed will bring some of these covers to PJ’s future sets! Of course, this will upset the too many covers crowd! Haha, just can’t win em’ all!

The postponed shows are certainly frustrating, but it's just a song.  Happy for those who got to see Dirty Frank last night.  The videos so far of these shows have looked like a lot of fun.

And yes, sprinkling in a song like Dirty Frank certainly could get some people off of the couch and into the venue if they were on the fence about going.  It's a great ticket selling strategy and also great for the fans in attendance.

  • They don’t need any hype
their hype is built from years of this stuff.

I've been giving this some thought, too. My best guess: in case their songs suck! 🎵

Yep that dirty water song at fenway. Blahhh. Sure it was fun to hear DF. It's all getting kind of messy. I can't stop feeding into it. May need shock therapy or something.
  • People need to chill out, man. Just some dudes playing music - I'm just grateful these shows are going on.

I have burned all of my PJ items.  It may not have been the best idea to do in my apartment and environmentally, but such is the position I was put in when Ed played Dirty Frank with another band.

To me, it makes a lot more sense having Ed perform "Dirty Frank" than having Pearl Jam perform it. "Where's Mike McCready?" doesn't make a whole lotta sense if he's right there!
