    I agree with this statement except for the word "properly":

    “Because the central or liberal media refused to cover it properly, it gave free rein to all of the right-wing media to report in the most polarizing, exaggerated way possible and inflame tensions.”

    They refused to give credence to what, at the beginning, seemed like a crazy conspiracy theory, because they knew it would cause, and even did cause, hate speech/crimes/violence against Chinese citizens around the world even though they obviously had nothing to do with it (like Middle Eastern people suffered after 9/11). And as always, hindsight is 20/20. The media were giving credence to what the general consensus was by the scientific community at large. As more evidence has been gathered and, with it, a better understanding of the virus itself, made it more likely that it was a lab leak. 

    But in the very next paragraph he admits his extreme bias by stating his ultimate distrust in governments as "they deal in power, they don't deal in truth". To some extent, I agree with that, however, they also deal in mitigation. They keep from the public what they think will keep the public safe (whether I agree with that practice is another thread). In the end, what positive effect would stating "it could have been a lab leak from china) have had on the public? None. The fact is the virus was here. Publicly espousing the lab leak as a viable theory would have done nothing except stoke fear and division and unrest, as he stated, much to the delight of the right wing media and racists (no, I'm not saying all lab leak theorists are racist; I'm saying it would have given racists legitimacy).

    I made it as far as to where they compared it to the early days of the Hunter Biden laptop story... the media had good reason to not report on that based on its weak sourcing. That was what responsible reporting should do. 

    People are mad that story didn't get more traction, but it's still very much unproven to this day, and to your point... what would have changed at the time if more credibility was given to the theory? Nothing. The virus still would have been here and we still would have had to deal with it.
