I for one kinda enjoyed fewer people around....
I agree.  You’re all probably too young to remember but it was like long ago on Sunday’s when nothing was open.
I literally told my kids about this the other day. They were like "nothing???". NOTHING. "what did you do?". WE WENT OUTSIDE.
Kids are the best and too funny!

And if that’s a pic of you up there you look a lot my dad!  I don’t mean any offense/disrespect to your mom.

But damn our brains must have come out of the same mold!
haha it is me, yes. why would that be offensive to my mom?
If you’re not kidding(?) that would mean you are my brother so your mom… 😂

not kidding. sorry, I didn't make that leap. still no offence taken.

Wow, that half decade kinda just crept up on me. Interesting all the Biden is “the lockdown president” when you see a quote by trump saying sweden was making a mistake not shutting down the nation.

For me it was a net zero positive/negative. As an introvert, I LOVED losing the pressure and subsequent stress of socializing. There was the working frim home transition.

But of course…no shows. No seeing family. Exchanging Christmas gifts in a park parking lot in Winnipeg in December. My kids were strong, but it affected them deeply not being able to be with friends in person.

I applaud the swedes for that brave approach, but of course what works in one country isn’t necessarily what works in another. And what will we learn for the next one? Probably not much. It might be completely different based on the behaviour of the pathogen.
what will or did we learn?

ivermectin cures all things. drinking bleach can have an effect.  shining light up your ass isnt just a kink but a medical procedure.

In fairness to Trump, he never said anyone should drink bleach. He suggested that "injecting disinfectant" into the body might somehow be helpful. That's much more defensible, by which I mean equally insane.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

It was one of the many frustrating things about the 2024 campaign. So many voters seemed to believe that: A) "there were no wars" when Trump was president the first time (there were many wars, including the one the U.S. was waging in Afghanistan for the entire four years); and B: we were better off four years ago than we are now (subjective to be sure, but also objectively true that four years prior to the months leading up to the election of 2024, thousands of businesses and schools were closed, and a deadly virus was killing hundreds of thousands of Americans). "Fifteen days to stop the spread" and "thirty days to stop the spread"-- that was under Trump.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Half a decade, wow. It’s kind of crazy how it changed things for so many and for some nothing really changed. As someone who works in grocery store I still went to work everyday and worked with the public, wife still went to her job working with disabled people, and son got to hang out with family. We still took day trips and pretty much tried to live as normal as possible, didn’t cancel any family events had birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas as normal and no one got sick. Son got to hang with his friends and cousins, actually had more freedom than normal summers. The weirdest part was how empty everything was, especially tourist areas and how long it took for return to anything resembling normal. Going to Niagara Falls in 2020,21 and most of 22 and not being remotely busy was definitely out of the normal. We did take precautions and knew people our age ( early 40’s) who passed away from Covid but thankfully we came out the other side probably in better condition than when it started. Not to say there wasn’t struggles but we did alright all things considered.
I just hope next time we give each other a little bit more grace than we did during Covid.

I think the pushback will be worse next time. It took a while for the distrust to take hold. Now it's there, ready and waiting...

That’s the scary part, I’ve been thinking that for a while now. It’s inevitable we get another pandemic and chances are it’s going to be worse and a lot of people are going to ignore the advice from health professionals due to distrust.

A friend and his girlfriend are anti-vaxxers. She, 5 years out, is still posting memes on Facebook, the most recent one was two people in an elevator, facing away from each other, with the caption “it wasn’t a pandemic, it was an IQ test”. I can tell you, no word of a lie, they are two if the stupidest people I’ve ever known. I thought this pre-pandemic. But she is convinced she’s smarter than everyone, constantly posting how she’s “waiting for everyone else to wake up “. This is what we’re up against. The mass of morons who think they are the smartest. Reminds me of a certain person who recently got elected.

I know a woman who still thinks the Supreme Court is going to overturn the 2020 election.
Are we all going to travel back in time?  Does she not realize it’s 2025?  They are everywhere.

“He never said anything about the vaccine being helpful,” said the father of the second girl to die from measles in the same small town. “He said, ‘You don’t know what’s in the vaccine anymore.’”

Tom Bartlett reports on RFK Jr.’s condolence trip to Texas:

With measles spreading across the country, the Illinois Department of Public Health unveiled a new online tool Wednesday that allows people to look up measles vaccination rates and data about the risk of outbreaks at individual schools across the state.

Whooping cough (pertussis) cases have skyrocketed by more than 1,500% nationwide since 2021.

Deaths tied to the disease are also up — hitting 10 last year, compared with about two to four in previous years — and cases are on track to exceed that total in 2025.

Doctors, researchers and public health experts warn that outbreaks of preventable diseases could get much worse with falling vaccination rates and the Trump administration slashing spending on the country’s public health infrastructure.
