The NRA doesn't like hear this...because if we take at face value their guns were secured, then it's seemingly impossible to keep them out of the hands of children. "Guns don't kill people; psychopathic kindergartners do."
That said, I highly doubt the gun was anything close to a reasonable definition of "secured."

LA mass shooting suspect kills 10 near Lunar New Year fest
By ANDREW DALTON

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) — A gunman killed 10 people and wounded 10 others at a Los Angeles-area ballroom dance club following a Lunar New Year celebration, setting off a manhunt for the suspect in the fifth mass killing in the U.S. this month.
Capt. Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said Sunday that the wounded were taken to hospitals and their conditions range from stable to critical. He said the 10 people died at the scene in the city of Monterey Park.
Meyer said people were “pouring out of the location screaming” when officers arrived at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. He said officers then went into the ballroom and found victims as firefighters treated the wounded.
Meyer gave no description of the male suspect or the weapon he used, or why police gave no information on the shooting for hours while the shooter remained on the run. He also said police were investigating another incident in the nearby city of Alhambra to see whether it was connected.
Meyer said it’s too early in the investigation to know if the gunman knew anyone at the ballroom or if it was a hate crime or not. He gave no other details.
The Lunar New Year celebration had attracted thousands.
Monterey Park is a city of about 60,000 people that sits at the eastern edge of Los Angeles. The majority of its residents are Asian immigrants or their descendants, most of them Chinese. The dance studio in downtown Monterey Park is just a few blocks from city hall on its main thoroughfare of Garvey Avenue, which is dotted with strip malls that are full of small businesses whose signs are in both English and Chinese. Cantonese and Mandarin are both widely spoken, Chinese holidays are celebrated, and Chinese films are screened in the city.
The tragedy marked not just the fifth mass killing in the U.S. since the start of the year but also is the deadliest since May 24, 2022 - when 21 people were killed in a school in Uvalde, Texas, according to The Associated Press/USA Today database on mass killings in the U.S. The latest violence comes two months after five people were killed at a Colorado Springs nightclub.
Seung Won Choi, who owns the Clam House seafood barbecue restaurant across the street from where the shooting happened, told The Los Angeles Times that three people rushed into his business and told him to lock the door.
The people said to Choi that there was a shooter with a gun who had multiple rounds of ammunition on him.
Wong Wei, who lives nearby, told The Los Angeles Times that his friend was in a bathroom at the dance club that night when the shooting started. When she came out, he said, she saw a gunman and three bodies.
The friend then fled to Wei's home at around 11 p.m., he said, adding that his friends told him that the shooter appeared to fire indiscriminately with a long gun.
The celebration in Monterey Park is one of the largest Lunar New Year events in Southern California. Two days of festivities were planned but officials canceled Sunday’s events following the shooting.

World... apparently we are.

He was a regular at the club. He actually went to a second club and they disarmed him. He must have killed himself a short time after that.
"When I got the courage, I lunged at him with both my hands, grabbed the weapon and we had a struggle. We struggled into the lobby, trying to get this gun away from each other," Tsay said. "He was hitting me across the face. Bashing the back of my head. I was trying to use my elbows to separate the gun away from him, create some distance." Once he was able to seize the gun from the shooter, he told the man to leave. "At this point I thought he would run away, but he was just standing there, contemplating whether to fight or to run away. I really thought I would have to shoot him." But the shooter walked out the door and returned to his van, Tsay said, adding that he then called the police. The incident left him with bruising on his body, across his nose and the back of his head, Tsay added. "After the incident, I was shook. I was shaken all night. I couldn't believe what happened."

Yeah he'll get a big laugh about me being wrong too. I was thinking he offed himself soon after the second encounter but it was 1020am the next day. Police followed his van and he shot himself as they approached.

And another one. Half Moon Bay. Ever been to Half Moon Bay, California? If you have, you'd know why I can't understand how anyone could lose their shit on go on a shooting rampage. Much as I hat that it happens anywhere, I think the shootings in overcrowded, over-polluted hard-core urban centers can at least partially be attributed to an environment not well suited for sentient beings. But Half Moon Bay? Well, then I guess it can happen anywhere. How sad, how pathetic.
At least seven dead in northern California shootings
Two attacks in agricultural area near Half Moon Bay come within days of shootings in Monterey Park and Central Valley
Seven people have been killed in an agricultural region of northern California, authorities said on Monday, the latest shootings to rattle the state in recent days.
Two
fatal shootings took place at a mushroom farm and a trucking firm on
the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a coastal community about 30 miles south
of San Francisco, officials said.
Dave
Pine, the president of the San Mateo county board of supervisors, said
that four people died at the farm and three at the trucking business,
although it was not immediately clear if the incidents were connected.
Authorities
have said that a suspect is in custody. Television footage from the
area showed officers taking a man into custody without incident.
“There is no ongoing threat to the community at this time,” the San Mateo county sheriff’s office said.
David
Canepa, a San Mateo county supervisor, tweeted that one of the
shootings had happened at a mushroom farm. Aerial television images
showed police officers collecting evidence from a farm with dozens of
greenhouses.
The shooting followed the killing of 11 people
over the weekend at a ballroom dance hall in the southern California
city of Monterey Park, near Los Angeles. It also comes on the heels of a shooting in California’s Central Valley last week, where six people, including an infant, were killed in the small town of Goshen.
“We
are sickened by today’s tragedy in Half Moon Bay,” Pine said in a
statement. “We have not even had time to grieve for those lost in the
terrible shooting in Monterey Park. Gun violence must stop.”
More details soon …

Kind of sad the reactions mass shootings get in todays world. Outrage simply depends on race of the shooter and type of gun used it seems. Back to back mass shootings and zero discussion here. The troll posts seemed to get people more upset nowadays. Sad.

disagree. I think it's just fatigue. it happens so often now. we're becoming numb to it.

There’s no way to know but I’d bet if both shooters were white conservative types we’d have at least a few pages of comments. Just another aspect of life dominated by politics. Sickening.
WTF is all I have to say. And half moon is one of the nicest places I have ever visited. Guns be gone. The strict laws work in Japan where the crazies walk off in the woods and never come back.

I do agree with 2Aers, however, that it's not JUST the guns. it's many things. culture, mental health, etc.

nah, it’s the easy availability, access, and lack of responsibility and accountability regarding firearms. ‘Muricans like it this way as evidenced by who they elect to office and the number of firearms sold. Nothing can be done. Thoughts and prayers.
