Long Way definitely grew on me & I like it a lot now. When I first heard The Haves at Ohana, it didn't grab me. Still not getting my attention after a couple of listens. Still excited for this album, though.
I dunno. Sirens is actually a great song that catches some heat, probably due to 2013 it was overplayed live. 🤷♂️ not sure the haves can be considered a great song
It’s not because sirens was overplayed. It’s because it’s not good (just many peoples opinion).
Seriously, you may not like Sirens but it is a world away from The Haves.
Enjoyed the first single but actively dislike The Haves in a way that I haven’t actively disliked an Eddie song since Future Days. Just the antithesis of everything I enjoy about him and the band. Ah well - can’t win ‘em all….

I’ll just leave this here:
‘Like Siamese twins
I can feel every one of your senses’
I’m giggling because this lyric makes me physically wince when he sings it.

Agreed. I don’t like Sirens but The Haves is literally one of the first things Ed had done that I really just don’t want to listen to. It’s a weird feeling.
Oh and the song he does on the new Elton John record. Just bad. Didn’t enjoy it at all with no desire to listen to it again. These are weird feelings for someone that has liked pretty much anything EV had ever been a part of.
I don't mind The Haves. It's okay. I wouldn't be telling anyone they should listen to it or anything, but... it's not the worst, lol. It's definitely not as cheesy as Sirens or Future Days.

This. I like The Haves. Don’t love it, but it has nowhere near the cheese of Sirens (I Study Your Face ?!??). 🤪

I dig Long Way. The Petty vibes are unmistakable and cool, and it's catchy enough to have gotten stuck in my head on a few different occasions already.
But I'm just not digesting The Haves. Maybe it's the fact that he rhymes "above" with "above." I don't know. Like others have said, I find myself having no desire to listen to it again or even to wait out the full 5 minutes.
Hoping it's one misstep on an otherwise enjoyable record.

I’m just happy these are solo songs and didn’t make it to a pj album.
This makes me think of the hundreds of Stone riffs EV has passed on… ugh.
I don't think Ed passes on Stone's riffs.
“I write every song for Eddie, ultimately,” he says. “He’s my muse. I would love to write 50 songs a year with him, but it’s just not on the cards; it just doesn’t work like that for him. When he’s in a writing process, it’s different than it is for me. I can write all the time. The way Ed really operates, the way that he loves to get music, is for something that’s immediate for you coming in at a time when he’s ready to connect with it. He likes to be in the process with you. So, if I send him 30 ideas, it’s just too much information for him to manage; that’s just not how his brain works.”
The long and short of it, Stone says, is this: “I write too many songs for Pearl Jam” – his words uttered neither with sadness or remorse, but almost as a gleeful oops of an admission.
“I’ve written plenty of songs that he didn’t necessarily respond to and for him to go, ‘That’s the one I want to do’? I couldn’t have been happier,” enthuses Stone.

You think that's worse than "Like siamese twins I can feel every one of your senses" ? I'd say The Haves is at least as cheesy as either Sirens or Future Days but at least The Haves was delegated to EV solo which is good.

Yes. Way worse when you combine it with the way he sings “I study your face” and the big 80s wanker guitar solo from Mike. It could be a Foreigner outtake if I didn’t know better.

Haha - “80s wanker solo.”
Funny though, innit? Because that solo sounds like one of his best of the last few records to me, on account of him actually having written it, and not just winging it.

Random question, apols if it's been asked, but what is that guitar Eddie's holding? Look like some Fender Mustang (but not quite) bass?
