I also realize I’ve had some “lyrics” wrong all these years. I thought “everything seems so hateful” was “8-ball” instead of “hateful,” and I thought “she prides herself on her cleaning talents” was “cleaning habits”

kind of curious how the band came across it and how the song came together.
ME TOO! This is an amazing find.
Well we know Eddie taped it off television well before joining PJ. I’d be curious to know about the instrumentation. Obviously Jack is on drums cause the liner notes say he is. That one riff in the middle sounds like Eddie but I’m not positive. And I’m not sure if Stone and Mike are even on it.
Actually would make more sense to me if they weren't on it. Just Ed putting some small weird music to some odd quotes.

Oh... I did.  The social media post and the opening paragraph of the article are kinda misleading, no? Why use the words “we found”?

Why not post an article saying “we found the source of radioactivity” and put a line at the end that says, “Thanks to Marie Curie.”

Not to be a buzzkill, and I didn't know about the link to watch the doc online, but the source of the clips has been known for a long time.

Here's an old thread that identified it (on page 1) in 2009: https://community.pearljam.com/discussion/115065/stupid-mop

The funny thing here is looking through that thread, I made the very next comment after the person that identified it, but I was responding to someone else and didn’t notice the comment identifying it. Or maybe I did notice it and searched for the documentary and couldn’t find it at the time. Who knows.

Lol. Yeah, the thread quickly turns into a Speed of Sound bashing... oh, the innocence of 2009.

In 2009 it probably wasn't available online even if you knew the name to search for it. YouTube was only a few years old at the time. The only version I see was uploaded in 2019. I doubt the local blockbuster had a copy to rent. So was probably next to impossible back then to watch it.

I only listen to the song maybe once every couple years at this point. I've often wondered about the documentary but never searched for it. I'm glad you found and posted it. I'm a little surprised when I search the title now and see it under IMDB and other sources theres no mention of Pearl Jam using any clips.

That's funny because I searched every which way. And forum posts would show up. But I couldn't find it. I don't believe this one showed up

Yeah I still should have noted the name of the documentary (even though that 2009 post doesn't have the title exactly right). Like you and everyone else, I only listen to it once in a blue moon, but when I do, I become overly interested in it. I can't believe I actually know what the Foxymophandlemama looks like now. I almost posted a screenshot of her on the PJ facebook page with a caption "THE Mophandlemama" but I felt that might be exploitive.

It's also interesting to learn that it's not the same same woman talking throughout the entire track, which I figured it was.

Next time I'll do it for sure. I'm talking about the article on radioactivity, obviously.
