Gigaton would be a better album if...

With the caveat that this is among my top half of PJ albums and I've listened to it far too many times, I would:
- Get rid of Never Destination and River Cross. 10 songs is enough. Never Destination is a good song but doesn't really add anything that's not already on the album. River Cross doesn't do anything for me, and Retrograde would be the perfect closer.
- Switch up the order of Comes Then Goes with Buckle Up. Buckle Up --> CTG bothers me for a reason that I'm unable to articulate.

Discuss.

When they decided to sell River Cross to Verizon and allow it to be the theme song for a multinational corporation's brand, they should have removed it from the album, and never spoken about it again.

I don't dislike Never Destination, but if they had to get it down to 10 songs that one is the most "this is a template for a rock song" out of the songs on the album.

(River Cross is better than Retrograde though, even with it being tarnished)

90% of the songs were replaced by better ones. Hate to be so negative towards this band, but it’s definitely the weakest album they’ve put out in my opinion.

And yes - Can’t Deny Me should definitely have been included.

Only way to improve it is change the title.  Not a fan of that title.  Great album tho

What record are you listening to? This record blows backspacer and Lightning bolt out of the water. This is a great album. To say it’s weak is odd to me IMO. Listen again maybe.

Love the album. LB and BS were not for me on the whole, and I find issues with every album post-Yield, although I like all their work. Gigaton ranks up there in the top 1/2 for me too, and since it does, I wouldn’t change a thing. There’s a decent chance that whatever I find weak now, won’t be in the future.

"Take The Long Way" is probably my least favorite song on the album.  Don't hate it... I like Matt having a moment on the album, but I'm generally not a huge fan of his songs.  I think "Take the Long Way" is better than "Get Right" (should've been left off Riot Act) and "Evacuation" (should've been left off Binaural), but it's still probably my least favorite Gigaton track.

Like all PJ albums it would be better if the band said "NO" to EV a few more times.

To me it's the best since riot act. Its starts out freaking great then settles in to "pretty good" for most of the second half. Comes then goes should be on an Ed solo album though

    I agree.

I also find the tracklist weird, with starting with all the OUMPH! and then just have a string of slow songs.

They didn't make it the theme song. Do you hear it on every Verizon commercial? No

I live in Sweden. Verizon isn't a thing here. I sure hope to never hear a Pearl Jam song be the theme song for one or every event where Telenor or Telia commercials run.

    Or a Beatles song:

I gave it a listen today because of this thread. Still cant get into it. Love Quick Escape, Seven O' Clock and Alright (probably hated by most). Who Ever Said would have been great but for the lull half way through which will become a clapper when played live. Superblood Wolfmoon could have been better bar the gibberish shit less than a minute in. DOC ending is a big no no, still cant get that song. Take the Long Way is just bland. Never Destination is OK.. Buckle Up is Ok.
River Cross, I had high hopes for this even though it didnt grab my attention when Eddie played it in Dublin. Hoped it would become a full band song for the album. Its just meh.

I think I only ever heard it once, during the SuperBowl maybe? It was a one-off ad, definitely not a theme song. And if I remember, it tied into support for fire fighters too or something.
I do think an organ solo version would have been better, but I'm glad it is on the album.
I'd get rid of Buckle Up and maybe Alright.
Definitely a better album that LB. I like it about as much as Backspacer. And I like Backspacer better than most do here.
