Gord’s concept album about a young indigenous boy who escapes a residential school and dies trying to find his way home. Timely random pull with the recent horrible findings at a southern BC residential school location. For those of you who don’t know, the residential schools are one of Canada’s great shames. They were a government-sponsored program to assimilate indigenous folks into the European settler way of life/religion/etc.
The recent news made worldwide headlines.  It is our own human rights atrocity and we must make amends with our indigenous community as the scars from these schools are still felt today (the last one in Saskatchewan closed in 1996).  This recent finding, as horrific as it is, only scratches the surface but has at least moved the conversation along as it had become stagnant after the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission findings.
This album is a hard listen…. It’s just an emotional ride.  One of Gord’s last (of so many) gifts to all Canadians was to remind us of what we have to do. Listen and learn.

They really sound great, 1TK!  I'm thrilled and more than a bit amazed that Marshall Allen is carrying on the legacy of Sun Ra and the Arkestra.  He's 97 years old!  Seeing Ra with Allen and John Gilmore (who died in 1995) three times in almost three decades was amazing.  I'm so glad this band made so many recordings.  That alone is kind of mind blowing.
