Alive is about Eddie Vedder having sex or wanting to have sex with his mother. I'm not trying to drop a bomb here, I am being real. For making it out of that, the man's admirable. When the lyrics talk about the "look, oh you know where" its about his mothers crotch.

    first off, The song is about a mother that is replacing feeling for her dead husband through her son. Ever hear of the MAMASAN trilogy?

    No, you said that the song is about Eddie Vedder wanting to have sex with his mother. This is not the same as the song is A) a monther wanting to have sex with her son, and B) not about Eddie Vedder.

    Well, if you must know the band of Mike, Stone, Jeff and Dave Kusken (sp?) sent a tape of instrumental music to Eddie, via Jack Irons, who was good friends with Ed. Ed created MAMASAN. It contains the songs, Alive, Once and Footsteps. Alive creates the story of the boy being seduced by his mentally ill mother, Once has him going crazy himself ( Once, upon a time, I could control myself...) and Footsteps has him on Death Row contemplating how his life ended up ( I've got scratches all over my arms, one for each pain since I fell appart...)

    He completely got the idea from The Who.

    Was basically hired on the spot.

    I am 30. Sorry I am so fucking infantile. I guess I am not a politically correct Pearl Jam fan. I try to get to the fucking root of something real and you call me 12??? Pearl Jam speaks to many levels and I guess mine is not as elevated as yours. i am an artist and i don't even feel the nned to talk down to anybody. i thought it was a relevant area to explore. You are probably a devout Christian.

    Hahaha, I dunno if its cuz i havent slept in a few days and have been studying non stop for finals...but i found that really funny. Thanks for the laugh!

    When it comes to lyrical interpretations, you can't find anyone suckier than me. I used to get horrible grades on all my poetry analysis papers and book analyses back in high school.

    However, i think Alive is the only song that I thought I understood. I thought it was just about how Ed was fooled into thinking that his stepfather was his real father and didnt find out who his real father was till he died. To me it's a song about hope. About how after everything he's gone through, and everything he's had to deal with...he's still alive.

    I dunno, I could be way off here, but that's just what I think.
