The Atlantic published a story by Mark Leibovich that discusses this whole cover-up angle and how you can't really call a cover-up what was there for all to see. The bigger issue was people lying about how "sharp" he was in meetings and behind closed doors. After Trump's term, I hope we can move past electing feeble old men barely hanging on to their minds, whether they're heartless bastards or creepy grandpa types. 12 years of that shit is way too long.
Well...we saw that on TV a lot too. He was sharp at times. He was sharp a few weeks ago on live TV.

He didn't trail off from a speech and start talking about sharks and magnets or how millions of people were dying in Ukraine. Or how Ukraine started a war, etc.
He was sharp enough in his Howard Stern interview in late April of last year. I missed the debate as I was overseas when it aired, but I was pretty surprised seeing clips of it as compared to how he sounded only a few weeks prior. I'm not saying he didn't have a terrible debate, only that I was quite surprised in the difference between the two.

yeah and I agree the debate was awful....but only part of his responses were awful, his open mouthed gawking was probably the worst part

Best debate moments the past few elections: Mike Pence fly, Joe Biden mouth agape waiting for a fly, Donald Trump they're eating the cats and dogs, JD Vance you said you weren't going to fact check or Tim Waltz friends with school shooters?

Not interested in this at all at this point.
Not interested in what?  Understanding that Joe Biden was in severe decline and people tried to hide it despite him being unfit to be president?   Seems pretty important...and I will say it seemed obvious to anyone that wasn't a Dem lemming.
I'm not a Dem lemming (or maybe I am?) and I think it's bullshit.

My dad has early dementia and Joe Biden is no where near that. Biden is still able to give speeches (he just did a week ago) and yes, he's old, he stutters, he loses his thoughts, etc., but "severe decline" is a stretch.

no lemming here. Agree. He still speaks with more conviction and knowledge than Trump ever has.
Ah here we go again….back to Trump.

i also didn’t and do not think Trump is fit to be president.  He’s mentally unstable in a different way. But the Biden issue was clear for anyone to see that cared to.
that was just an add on, to highlight the fact that more people think biden is in worse condition than trump. both have been president.

forget the trump comparison. I still believe biden was fine. and these generalized statements of "fact" that "you'd see if you cared to" or "only those not in the dem cult could see it" are ridiculous. I pride myself on being a pretty objective person. He had some trouble in the debate, no doubt about it. But I've seen interviews with him several times since then. He can still talk policy circles around most.

Couldn't agree more. And again, I wish Biden would have bowed out gracefully in 2023 and cleared the way for a true primary.

did he have a teleprompter or at the very least heavily rehearsed? likely. But this was the day after. And his unscripted moments were clear and concise. If someone is really in the kind of decline people here keep trying to convince themselves he was in, he wouldn't have been able to pull this off either:

People who think this need to watch the debate again. Every painful minute. No one expected that, because they hid his condition. He never had performed that bad before in any public appearance

Read the articles. They are saying Biden didn’t recognize people he knew for decades. Had that come out around new years 2024, we’d have had primaries.

None expect a debate performance like that. Even trump looked stunned how bad Biden was.

Dementia is not a linear affliction. You could be horrible for a month, then great, then horrible again. Biden didn’t recognize people he knew for decades, in early 2024.

The sources defending the Biden team are “anonymous“ , lol. they were dishonest with us, and someone deserves to pay for this deception, instead they’ll keep their jobs making decisions for the various democratic campaign committees.

    AI response…

…dementia symptoms can become more pronounced under stress. Stress can worsen dementia symptoms, especially those affecting attention, planning, and decision-making. This is likely due to the release of cortisol and other stress hormones, which can negatively impact memory and brain regions crucial for cognitive function.

I seriously don't think anyone knew what happened during the debate could happen or they never would have done the debate. It just made it painfully obvious how bad his bad days could be. Go back to the state of the union and you don't see it. I remember wondering how old and out of it will he look and then he seemed pretty good, but his public appearances were always limited so you knew the job was too much for him at that point. Again, I don't think there was a cover-up. Biden had the knowledge and capability, but the strenuous nature of the presidency limited him to being effective less than what any of us want for a president.

It's still crazy to me that for some incoherent feeble old guys shouldn't be president, but crazy incoherent old guys who spew nonsense should be. Bonkers.

Particularly given you had an accomplished, young candidate who would have governed for all without the bonkers. But you know, “the other.”

Race and sexism played a part in her defeat. There was also the inability to separate from President Biden’s unpopularity, economic concerns and inflation, weak connection with key demographics, short campaign timeline, strategic missteps and messaging, cultural and ideological disconnect, loss of swing states and Trump's effective campaign.

Not interested in this at all at this point.
Not interested in what?  Understanding that Joe Biden was in severe decline and people tried to hide it despite him being unfit to be president?   Seems pretty important...and I will say it seemed obvious to anyone that wasn't a Dem lemming.
And what do you think the goal is from the right on the issue?

Not that you asked me, but I have no idea what the goal on the right might be... All I can figure is that this scandal (and it is a legit scandal) definitely makes it so the right would have a harder time hiding any medical/cognitive issues with Trump, which is a good thing.
Some of the details of this are pretty shocking and appalling.... I have to assume that Biden's aids etc really just wanted him to speak into the second term and then he would have stepped down and Harris would be President.... Now that I say it, geez, I really wish it had worked, haha.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata

His recent interview on The View was a mixed bag. He did well by himself and had some good responses. Other times he'd get stuck mid-sentence and do his, "well anyway" safety net.

Dr Biden came out and had to tap in on President Biden's first question while they were together as he hit another roadblock. The other questions, his answers didn't seem to match the question. just went off the campaign script.

He took ownership of not getting the messaging out about all of his accomplishments while in office.

Took some tough questions and hung in there.
