What the hell! Was not expecting that. Bob Gibson the other day and now Eddie. 2 of the greatest at their craft. Hopefully no one else anytime soon.

whether it was Roth or Hagar, my main draw to Van Halen was Eddie.  Innovator and legend.

I heard from my wife this afternoon.  I was stunned.  Shit, the guy was 4 years younger than me.  WTF?  So very sad.
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen.  One of the best.

So sad, that's just too young to go. Fuck cancer...

The first thing I saw on the day of his death was the excerpt from Mike's obituary comparing Eddie to Mozart. That came unexpectedly from the German press but brought a little smile.

We lost another great one! :(

Oh, I totally agree kce.  Too young, all that energy, a great guy, a marvelous musician.  Gone too damn young.  Yes, fuck cancer!

Dude was epic. Growing up in the late 70's/early 80's those first 4 VH albums were huge in developing my love of music. The first time I heard Eruption was like getting hit with lightning.

Yeah I completely lost interest after DLR left.  I was watching some old live VH stuff on youtube.  EVH was one of a kind.  Those would have been great concerts to attend up through 1984 or so.

I did see the reunited VH (Wolfgang instead of Michael) a few years ago.  Still impressive.

  • they came here a few times. Never saw them live. Big regret. Especially when AIC was opening for them in 91. I wouldn't shell out the "ungodly ticket price" of $40.

saw them once. DLR was seriously impaired but he got his shit together towards the end and it turned out to be a pretty good show.

My first concert was a Day on the Green show at the Oakland Coliseum in 1982. Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Loverboy and Foreigner. Loverboy was actually pretty good, but coming on after Maiden and Scorpions, it was a way different vibe!
