From Letter From an American, but I hate to break it to you, you elected a clown show of a circus. And wasn’t that what cost Bush I the election? They don’t even know their own history.
Today the Trump family posed for a post-election photo. Missing from the group was former first lady Melania Trump. Joining the family was billionaire Elon Musk, who supported Trump’s campaign both through his ownership of X, formerly Twitter, and then with $132 million in cash and with apparent giveaways to get voters to give the campaign personal information.
As an immigrant from South Africa, Musk is barred from the presidency himself by the U.S. Constitution, which requires that a president be born in the U.S. (out of the Framers’ concern that a foreign country could put a puppet in the presidency). But he is now very close to Trump and stands to gain significantly from a Trump presidency, both through deregulation and government contracts, and through Trump’s planned tariffs on Chinese imports that will enable Musk to monopolize the electric vehicle market in the U.S. Musk also would like a victory in the culture wars; he is strongly opposed to transgender rights.
After the election results came out, Musk posted on X, “Novus Ordo Seclorum,” Latin for “New World Order.”
So, tell me again what economic plan POOTWH and Bernie had that’ll help the “working middle class.” Hilarious that they fell for it. Suckers. Again from Letter From an American:
Notably, Trump has said he will appoint Musk to head a new government efficiency commission, and Musk has vowed to cut “at least $2 trillion” from the federal budget. Such cuts would decimate government services, including food programs and Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Supplemental nutrition programs disproportionately benefit rural areas, and Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are used much more heavily in counties that support Trump than those that don’t.
That will be a hard circle to square.
So will Trump’s promise to lower consumer costs while also putting tariffs of 10% to 20% on all foreign imports and of 60% on imports from China. Tariffs are borne by consumers, so by definition they will drive prices up. These two promises cannot be reconciled.

Bernie wasn't running...why should we expect him to have a plan?

Yeah, I don't get it. I live in a rural area in Southern Illinois and I can verify that MANY families here receive WIC, SNAP and other government food assistance. Over half of the students in our county are eligible for free or reduced lunches. In a county of 15K residents, nearly 5K of them are enrolled in Medicaid. Trump got 76% of the vote in the county. When the cuts happen, people here will realize that they have shot themselves in the foot, just to save a little money on the price of eggs.

I'm still unclear on what trump is going to do to make eggs or whatever else affordable.
I keep hearing that people voted for trump on policy and / or the economy, but I have yet to hear what those policies are or what his plan for the economy is beyond tariffs which experts say are only going to make things worse.

Nothing...that's the thing. Prices will drop normally just like they are now and he'll get credit for it. The magats will sing his praises for no fucking reason.
Gas prices increased when trump was in office and they totally ignored it. Gas prices tanked before he left office due to covid and they give him credit. The ignorance is in outer space.

I'm inclined to think most people who use the economy or policy as an excuse to vote for the guy are hiding behind excuses they genuinely don't understand or haven't thought through and just don't want to admit they like the guy.
Which I get, I wouldn't want to admit it either... he's an abhorrent human being.

The WH is going to turn the rose garden in to a chicken coop and give eggs away for free to all who pledge allegiance to the Trump flag of the United States of Nationalism.

I think too many people, here and other places, are overthinking the “whys” on all of this.
Approximately 20% of American adults are functionally illiterate (that’s close to 60 million people). Over half of those who can read, read at a sixth grade level or lower. When you’re options to educated yourself are limited, getting your info from simple to read, facebook memes makes sense. They aren’t reading economic policy pieces. Thus the “We love the uneducated” comment.

No, I'm not hung up on the why. I was 8 years ago, but not this time around.
This is what America wants. Americans want a president who's going to make funny speeches and piss people off. They don't want boring, they want drama. They want to be entertained, they want Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off. It's going to be funny when RFK and Elon get involved. People will be so owned, it's going to be awesome.
This is who we are.
I asked about the economy and the policy above, because I think people using that as an excuse are full of shit and simply don't know what they're talking about. They just want trump, which is their prerogative... they just don't want to admit it.

The mall will be packed... he's the ultimate alpha and pinnacle of American existence. There's going to be so many uninformed young white American men there who want to be just like him.

Because he was wagging his finger and looking down his nose at the Democratic Party claiming they haven’t done anything for the middle working class. Guess he’s been in a coma since 2020?

They definitely don't know what they are talking about...that's what bothers me. To say "groceries were cheaper under trump" is just the pinnacle of ignorance.
I'm not even too opposed to someone shaking things up. I am just opposed to putting dipshits in powerful offices that will weaken the country. I'm even more opposed to people abusing power. trump's inauguration speech should tell us a lot. If he stands up there and insults the outgoing president (who is man enough to show up) I'm going to rage about him the entire four years.
And I guarantee you they will make sure that mall is filled...that will be trump's #1 priority after the empty mall the last time
The mall will be packed... he's the ultimate alpha and pinnacle of American existence. There's going to be so many uninformed young white American men there who want to be just like him.
The people have spoken and this is what they want.

Yeah we'll see. Trump has never shown an inclination to offset any spending or tax breaks with corresponding reduced spending. I'm not thinking it's going to happen now.
the R's controlling all 3 branches could be the best thing that ever happened to the democrats. shitty for the american people, likely, but good for the party. they better have someone groomed by the time it's time to swoop in and put the final nail in. Newsom or Pete get my vote (which, as a syryp slurpin' moose rider, means absolutely ZILCH)

Assuming we even have elections (I know, I know), I really hope the meanness and ineptitude the Dream Team has, along with their absolute disinterest in regular people will resonate with some people who were duped into thinking that Biden ruined the economy. I also hope that "shitty for the American people" doesn't get as out of hand as I think it could. Elon and Trump appear to be co-presidents elect and Elon is the rich guy that never noticed the help. He's heartless and it's got the potential to be ugly. Right now their followers are super pumped at the prospect of firing a million federal employees on Day 1. They might be surprised to find out that the beneficiaries are going to be in the top 0.01% and the only benefit they'll get is whatever enjoyment the suffering of others brings them.
Also, I know I am a pessimist but even the biggest optimist has to understand that the next people live through a balanced federal court system haven't even been born yet. And it's not just a conservative court system, but a party-loyal one.

This is probably true. Their information sources are probably preparing for how to deliver that message as we speak.
The best hope for people in these situations is that Trump doesn't actually do some of the bordering on draconian things that we're talking about. Much of this didn't happen last time...but he's surrounded himself with even less serious people that have even less sense of how to govern than last time (which is an amazing feat in and of itself). But that's where we are; we need a bunch of people with an elite combination of heartlessness and stupidity to come to their senses and look out for the people that voted for them (and those that did not).

Right. I’ve thought about this. Does this become the Putin and the oligarchs situation. When Putin came to power he gathered up the oligarchs and made them a deal. Turn over half of what you have now and will have to me, and you can do as you please. Don’t, and you’ll be dead and everything you have will be mine. Are you referring to Khodorkovsky? Unfortunately, I'd wager about 0% of Trump voters know anything about how Putin came to power.

I keep hearing that people voted for trump on policy and / or the economy, but I have yet to hear what those policies are or what his plan for the economy is beyond tariffs which experts say are only going to make things worse.
Gas prices increased when trump was in office and they totally ignored it. Gas prices tanked before he left office due to covid and they give him credit. The ignorance is in outer space.

Which I get, I wouldn't want to admit it either... he's an abhorrent human being.

& I don't disagree that RFK / Elon likely won't get positions of power, but that doesn't change the fact it's what a lot of people are rooting for, which again... brings us back to the prior point.
The people have spoken and this is what they want.

Also, I know I am a pessimist but even the biggest optimist has to understand that the next people live through a balanced federal court system haven't even been born yet. And it's not just a conservative court system, but a party-loyal one.
