i think "let's go brandon" is the ONLY thing the gop has come up with the last 3 years that has any kind of staying power. all of their legislative ideas have been forgettable failures.

Let them own this dysfunctional group. Let them be the party of POOTWH. Don’t let the gavel hit you on the way out Kevie.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is at risk of losing his job as early as Tuesday, as a faction of hard-right Republicans seeks to oust him and Democrats signaled they are not willing to vote to save him. Earlier Tuesday, McCarthy told GOP lawmakers he would make a motion to table a resolution to remove him as speaker. But to survive, McCarthy would need Democratic support, and leading members of the party said Tuesday that they feel no obligation to provide votes. “We are ready, willing and able to work together with our Republican colleagues, but it is on them to join us,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) told reporters after an hours-long Democratic caucus meeting.
The Republican side of the House chamber is somber. Most Republicans are sitting in seats, many with arms crossed. It’s a much different scene than on the Democratic side, where members are chatting and moving about the aisles, which is how the Republican side is during most votes.
Former president Donald Trump, who is leading a large field of Republican presidential primary candidates, weighed in on the speakership drama while in New York for a civil trial over alleged business fraud.
“Why is it that Republicans are always fighting among themselves, why aren’t they fighting the Radical Left Democrats who are destroying our Country?” Trump wrote on social media.

Mills? Mills? Miiiiiiiils? Cory? Cory Miiiiilllls? I could have sworn I heard some whispers about an illness and Baskin Robbins.
Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) just had an awkward moment. After his name was called twice, Mills just stared at the clerk without saying a word. Once realizing what had happened, he shouted, “Nay,” but he was already passed over. The clerk will give him a chance to correct the record at the end of the roll call vote.
Now what? Where does this lead? Does Kevie get re-elected speaker? If so, does he retaliate against Matt Getts Off? Or does he further bow to POOTWH and go easy on the lad? Or, does the party move on and further entrench itself in POOTWH with a new speaker? Or do they finally tell POOTWH to fuck off and return to some sense of normalcy? Let’s not forget who’s pulling the strings here. And if you’re a big money donor, why on earth would you donate to this dysfunctional band of deplorables?
After Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) voted to remove Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as House speaker, the Republican Governance Group (known as RG2) is already discussing expelling her, according to a person familiar with the actions of the group who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations. The group of roughly 40 Republicans is home to many moderates and was founded on valuing governing and the House as an institution.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said no one else had stepped forward to run for speaker and that her assumption was that Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) would run again.
“I haven’t heard him say he’s not,” Greene said. “I think the vote today shows that he really truly has the support of the whole conference except a few people.”
Speaking to reporters after the vote to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker, Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) said Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) “shouldn’t be in the Republican Party.”
He said Republicans plan to meet later tonight to discuss the next steps, but he expects McCarthy to be nominated and eventually become speaker again.
“We don’t let eight people dictate the rest of the conference,” Bacon said of Republicans who voted against McCarthy.
When asked if he would rather work with moderate Democrats or Gaetz and the others who voted to oust McCarthy, Bacon said: “I would never want to work with Matt Gaetz.”
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), who is considered the most moderate of the eight Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy, said she did so because she couldn’t trust him.
“I’ve made deals with Kevin McCarthy, with the speaker, that he has not kept to help women in this country,” she told reporters after the vote.
She rejected the idea that the fight over electing a new speaker would delay efforts to pass the remaining eight bills before government funding runs out again in mid-November.
“Hopefully we’ll have a new speaker in short order,” she said. “If we can get it done quickly, then there’s no reason to pause.”
It's really a surprise that she voted to out him. I'm sure he did go back in a deal, that's what he does. But not a great time to stand with the lunatics. Bad call.

Trust is the most valuable commodity on the hill. If you can’t be trusted to keep your word, your word is shit. Particularly if Kevie reneged on a deal for her vote on something, funding for women and children in exchange for her vote for him as speaker. Nobody trusts him now nor should they. She’s probably figuring she can explain her vote to her constituents and reelection is more than a year away. This will be forgotten by the average voter in 2 weeks.

This won't be over in two weeks. I really don't know where they go

I know it won’t be over but your average voter will have forgotten about it or stopped caring how their representative voted in two weeks. The only potential resurrection with any consequences would be a primary challenger from the right against someone who voted to oust Kevie. Kevie’s leadership skills are questionable at best.
I guess we won’t have Kevie to kick around anymore, eh? Now go buy your wife a “respectable republican cloth coat.”
When Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced he would not seek the speakership, Republican members attending the conference meeting gasped. Several Republicans, including some who privately admitted they never really got along with McCarthy, said they greatly respected how McCarthy addressed the conference with a smile throughout his remarks.
Members in the room said many colleagues were crying as he spoke, men and women alike.
