I'm not sure why you're defending the language of the representative who doesn't know that Congress has two chambers. Unless he thinks there are 100 representatives with less power than him.

I would be interested in seeing how some of our Trump supporters here feel about this and if they could possibly defend him on this:

Pete Buttigieg condemns Trump’s reported remarks about wounded veteran

Ex-president reportedly told Gen Mark Milley in 2019 that severely wounded soldier should be banned from public appearances

Pete Buttigieg, the US transport secretary and a military veteran, has criticized Donald Trump after a report that he sought to bar a severely wounded veteran from public appearances during his presidency.

In an interview with the Atlantic, Mark Milley, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, said Trump had been irritated after Luis Avila – who lost a leg and suffered brain damage after an IED attack in Afghanistan – sang at Milley’s 2019 welcome ceremony.

“Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded,” Milley said Trump told him after the ceremony.

Milley told the Atlantic that Trump said Avila should never appear in public again.

On Sunday, Buttigieg – who was a lieutenant in the US navy reserve and served a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2014 – told CNN that Trump’s alleged order was “just the latest in a pattern of outrageous attacks [by Trump] on people who keep this country safe”.

Military members wounded in combat, Buttigieg said, “deserve respect and a hell of a lot more than that from every American, and definitely from every American president”.

Buttigieg also said: “The idea that an American president, the person to whom service members look as a commander in chief, the person who sets the tone for this entire country, could think that way or act that way or talk that way about anyone in uniform, and certainly about those who put their bodies on the line and sacrificed in ways that most Americans will never understand … I guess wounded veterans make president Trump feel uncomfortable.”

Trump has a previously attacked members of the military. In 2020, the Atlantic reported that Trump had said the Aisne-Marne American cemetery – where more than 2,000 American military members who died in France are buried – was “filled with suckers”.

The Atlantic reported that Trump had also said the more than 1,800 marines who died at Belleau Wood, the site of a key battle in the first world war, were “suckers” for getting killed.

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

  • I do know what a confirmation hearing entails. However, I took Merkin's post to mean the "both sidesing" of stuffing bills, because I've personally never come across a "both sidesing" of confirmation hearings. I think it was a simple case of crossed wires.
No crossed wires at all... People jump to the defense of the GOP in the face of bad behavior / decisions / votes by crying 'both sides' on a regular basis, and I was genuinely curious if someone who thinks both sides are the same wanted to explain the 'no' votes on this confirmation hearing.
Aaaaaand this is what I mean if you all think somebody on here is going against dems or for the rep you just eat them alive.

All I was doing is sticking up for Hugh but because you THOUGHT I was defending the GOP the questions come...

If somebody has to be defensive then yes, it looks like an attack I'd say.  Again, going against the grain here doesn't go well.
Defensive? How about “clarifying?” Which occurred. How about this, try making your point as clear as possible before you, you in the general sense, post it? Some of us are really stupid, talking about me, and HFC’s post was in the context of a confirmation vote and not an appropriations vote. The clarification they subsequently made was referring to posts a page or further back. Adding context to a post is not an “attack.” Maybe to you it is? Because the OP feels “defensive.”

Going against the grain here is fine but be prepared to be challenged on your assumptions and to back up your argument or assumptions. It gets hot in the kitchen and if you can’t stand the heat…………
What am I being challenged about?  I made a statement.  I add context but you still attack it.  See how that works?  It doesn't.  You're always right.  That's all.  You get called out on stuff al the time and never so you're wrong.  You must be Mr Right!
You’re not, in this instance. You claimed another poster was being “attacked.”

It’s true, I get called out all the time and I defend my position(s). I don’t take it as an “attack.” I take it as rigorous debate.
I'll call  it a pile on.  It's not a debate when one side doesn't yield or have the ability to even bend.  You're an oak not a palm.
You’re not a window but a pane. See? Should I girder myself for another football analogy? You’re fumbling so far.
    Oak. Not wrong ever. Fooseball.
  • So I just read about the shutdown looming.

The republican's are split about the budget and if the Speaker gets any help from the dems he will be fired and if he doesn't get the repubs to agree we get a shut down.

So it's worse to get a bipartisan agreement than a government shutdown?

    Wow.

Yeah, if he gets D help, then they will call for a speaker vote, which any one member can do under this Congress's rules (McCarthy had to sign up for that one as further evidence he has no sac).  But then he would only remain speaker if enough D's defect to him to support him.  But there's ZERO chance of that after all the nonsense impeachment, investigations, etc.  He has alienated both sides dramatically.  He has no wiggle room.

it only took him 15 votes and a lot of begging/dealmaking for him to get the job. nope, i could not have seen this coming, haha.

frankly, i am surprised he has lasted this long as speaker.

He is the weakest speaker in memory.  No juice whatsoever.

The republican's are split about the budget and if the Speaker gets any help from the dems he will be fired and if he doesn't get the repubs to agree we get a shut down.

He thought it was a good career move and wanted this badly.  Don't think it's going to do what he thought it would...

Great look for the party right now and the followers don't care.

OK so I looked into this more.

McCarthy made some pretty big offerings to get this job and he isn't living up to them I guess.

Also parts of the conservatives don't want to just give money to Ukraine without accountability and do it in smaller parts, something I believe Biden had agreed to.

So in a nutshell they believe spending all this money without justification is big enough to shut down the government.

So we are to believe from a tweet that Ukraine has decimated the Russian military by 50%?

If that is true then I am all for it.
