If PJ played a show like this, would it work?

I didn't read through all the pages, but I personally would not be a big fan of this idea. I think a better idea is to a 10-15 show fan club only club tour. I think a lot of 10 Clubbers would prefer a small intimate atmosphere, as opposed to a show with 50,000 or more people. They could start on the East or West coast, and hit Seattle, L.A., Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Boston, New York, Toronto, Philly, Atlanta and Orlando or something like that.
words seem so out of place.

but that would be a lot more work for the band than just one big gathering - plus it wouldnt be that memorable/special when compared to a one big gathering where all the fans can get together. Thats the point, I think, to be together in a "historical" event, one of a kind, once in a lifetime thing. Sure the small scale events must be nice, in their own way. :)

This is such a great idea, but I think guaranteeing every 10c member a seat will be the biggest problem. There has to be at least 600,000 members in the 10c (my member # is in the 400,000 range and I've been a member for almost 10 years). So let's figure a 1/3 of the members live outside of North America and couldn't attend... that leaves 400,000. Now figure another 1/3 couldn't make it to the venue due to costs of travel, scheduling conflicts, etc... that leaves 200,000. Now every member gets a pair of tickets, so they would have to find a venue that could accomodate almost a half a million people. That's pretty much impossible. If PJ would ever do something like this it would have to be on a first come first serve basis for all 10c members and and hopefully they would play more than one night so everyone at least has a shot of seeing it once.

I think you're totally overestimating the amount of 10clubbers in existence.

First, 10C numbers are NOT in the 600,000's yet. I think the highest is somewhere in the 400,000's. I don't know how you got fucked over, but I have been a member for 10 years (since '98), and my # is 196xxx.

Second, most of the early numbers (and many later numbers) are defunct -- their owners let their memberships expire without renewing them.

My best guess would be somewhere in the range of 200,000 current 10c members, and that's a pretty generous guess.

I honestly don't think 1/3 of them would be able to attend, but even if we use that number, that's about 67,000 total. Multiply X2 and that's 134,000 total (again, I think that's a very high estimate, but just playing it safe).

    Bonnaroo was about 100,000, right?

Haha, wow, didn't expect that people would take this so seriously.

But, since the idea seems to be generally supported, why not look into it? Is there anyone who doesn't think a Pearl Jam concert of this sort would be the greatest show in the history of the universe?

Before we start collecting money, making new websites, etc., we first need to look into the plausibility of this happening.

Does anyone on here know -- or know someone who knows -- about how concerts are organized, paid for, etc.? Are there any rules about booking a show that we wouldn't be able to accomplish as non-industry people?

Also, is there anyone close enough to the band or its management to get an idea of whether or not there'd ever be a chance in hell that they would go for something like this?

Once we get an answer to those two questions, THEN we can start appointing people to look into the logistics further...

    Spanky could book the venue
    Froggy could sell the tickets
    Alflafa can handle the PR
    Darla could do the cooking
  • this is a great idea but honestly, welcome to the real world and think of the facts. Theres way too many 10club members to all go to one concert. The band would never do this as a three day festival because it's way too expensive and unrealistic. And every venue is owned by someone or some company that would have no interest in giving a bands fans a three day festival when theyre probably losing quite a bit of money. This is a great idea and I'd obviously be first in line to go, but dont get too carried away.

I'm very curious, I would love to know how many active tenclub members there are. 200000 seems high to me.

I see 5 shows would be needed.

    1 in the NW (Seattle)
1 in the NE (Boston or NY)
1 in the SW (San Diego)
    1 in the SE (Florida)
1 in the Mid West. (where ever)

The people who do Bonnaroo also do a festival or did a festival in Las Vegas , Vegoose. I heard they are not going to do it this year. I think there is room on that old site to camp plus there are many hotel rooms available for those who don't. Could just do a Pearl Jam only Vegoose and draw a sizable crowd for 2 or 3 shows over a weekend.

Ed usually trashes the previous nights city or crowd. Vegas has always had great shows. Its probably the show people travel to the most. Its hard not to have a good time in Vegas. June - August would not be the time for a festival though.

Totally random idea, but just curious if you guys think it would work.

Let's say PJ decided they wanted to put on the craziest Pearl Jam show ever. They wanted it to be a fan club only show -- but with the guarantee that any 10-clubber who wants to go will have a spot (they each get to bring a date, of course).

So they choose a location somewhere in the middle of the country (say, Kansas -- sorry international people, you'd have to travel for this one!) and a venue large enough to hold a shitload of people (say, a football stadium).

They announce that they would hold a poll on their website of what songs their fans want them to play. The top 30-35 songs that we vote for will comprise the setlist (PJ gets to choose the order, of course).

They sell tickets through their fan club only, since this is technically a private show.

Now...it's a stretch, I know...but hypothetically, how many people do you think would attend this show? And would it without question be the greatest show (and party) of all time?

Or instead of Kansas, make it Sydney, they could hold it at the olympic stadium, it is now known as ANZ stadium, and then I would be in.... Kansas too far and too much $$$ for this Pearl Jam fan to attend....

But it is a good idea.

  • lets do it on a big yacht/air craft carrier, neutral territory.

I just like the fact that one gi-normus concert would make history

please dont bother pointing out the cons of a concert in the middle of the ocean I know its not plausible, very much like this whole idea, however I am intrigued.

What about South African, it's in the middle of the world.
northern African would be too close to Europe.

    S. Africa would be fair to all international fans. :)

Yeh I was being sarcastic, of course it wasn't a realistic venue for such a show, but we can't help but dream....

Anyway Sydney has been voted 10th best city in the world, I reckon it is number one. You should come here one day..... In fact all of the jamily should come here for a jamily reunion, beaches, pubs, beautiful harbour, beautiful women, what more do you want???

I'm really intrigued by the Red rocks idea, the place looks really amazing and what I've read its one of the best places for concerts. The place seats 9450 people, and theres a perfect view of the stage from every seat. Considering this place would be a bit more "realistic", than some 100000 people football stadium in where-ever. ;) And its in the US, since most fans I assume are american. What do you think?
