Should Pearl Jam presell tour posters online?

The Rolling Stones sell their individual show posters online starting the day of the show.  I think this would be a great option and compelling benefit for Ten Club members.  What say you?

Should Pearl Jam presell tour posters online? 180 votes

I like a limited run of posters being sold onsite. Makes the poster special, also I love lines

I would prefer and online option and I beg of the Ten Club to consider this

If they keep them limited, at least return to just selling them in the venue.

I think they should offer the chance to pre-order the poster / sticker to anyone who wins 10c tix. It would be a blind buy, but I would do it in a heartbeat. I've had some fun times in merch lines, but that time could be spent otherwise.

They should do it blind, they can fulfill the fan club orders plus have a show day run. Many people want the poster to the show they go to, regardless of what it looks like. This runs into a snag when there are multiple posters for a ballpark run of shows

It probably makes more business sense to sell posters at the venue since you might buy a t-shirt or some other items after having waited in line.

Yup, but it still sucks to have to waste the whole day hoping that they won't run out right before you get to the front.

They’ve done a blind pre-order in the past for the Backspacer tour. I took advantage of it for SF and the LA show I had tickets for. Wonder what the reasoning was for not bringing it back after 2009.

Have it as an option to buy the poster when you enter for tickets-  the same way they had an option for commemorative ticket stubs this year.

It would be awesome if they did.   They did do it in '09 but I think they said it was a lot of work to ship all those posters so they stopped doing it.   One of the drawbacks of being a smaller in house operation.

I think they can easily ask every member that purchased tickets if they’d like 1 or 2 posters for that show and just mail em out after. It’s a lot of work but they also make $x more money overall. Because some of y’all would still buy more at the show.

That would also eliminate some of the bitching about people not getting a poster to a show they attended because other members bought as many as possible to either sell to members not at the show (weird) or sell on eBay. I couldn’t think of anything more odd than framing a poster of a show I was NOT at and having a guest ask about said show and I go, “yeah, it was amazing.....I only heard it on a bootleg”

that’s just me though, in the minority

I think the issue.. is say they got something like 3000 poster orders per show.   There's 20 shows.  All of a sudden they have to mail out 60,000 posters.  I don't think they're scaled up to do that.    I think they run their own warehouse and use their own staff so anytime they would have to mail out a shit tonne of things it probably becomes an issue.

Good point, shipping is probably a pain in the ass. The follow up on tracking, bitching about shipping costs, damaged posters, the packing, volume of shipping. Selling the majority at the show saves so much effort and time.

This would be good for the fans who want posters, but bad for a band that’s also running a business; shows that end up with less desirable posters will see less of a buying frenzy since the 10c fans will have already scored one, resulting in a lot more unsold inventory going back into the warehouse when the tour ends. That would be a loss for the band.

Also, I can already hear the bitching from people who did a blind preorder & end up w/ Wolf Boy 2.0.

If we won reserved, GA, or best of tickets during the lottery, would be nice to be able to purchase one poster ahead of time.

i have no issues with getting a shirt, button, or sticker at the show.

I see your location is Sweden, from my personal experience the merch lines in Europe are nothing like the big US shows... were talking several hours, not minutes.

Trieste 2014 a few hours before show time - basically no line

    --------------------------------
Now compare that to 2016 Ft Lauderdale - 6 hours before doors open

Below... Wrigley 16... people on the left are not going into stadium.. they are in merch line..

Denver 14 - 4 hours before doors open - line wrapped around arena.

You were reading my mind! I was going to make a list of the things that would continue to make the $40 membership fee worth purchasing year in and out. Otherwise if they don't start offering things like this for that membership tier, everyone is just going to start renewing at the lower $20 membership tier, myself included.

I mean think about it, how many more people would they get to increase their membership commitment to the $40 level simply by making the show poster pre-sale an option? They could even offer this in a way that won't cost them much overhead if any at all in order to offer this option to the fans. Terms could simply be; If you're an Analog member and have verified fan club tickets to the show, you have the option to pre-purchase and pick up the day of the show. No S&H BS for them to even deal with. BOOM!

For as amazing as the fan club is, sometimes it seems like they miss out on some of the most obvious things they could be doing to keep it exciting for fan club members to see the value in continuing to renew their memberships every year. I'll be honest, it seems like over the past 10 years things have gotten kind of stale as they know they can count of X number of renewals simply because of the seniority perk when it comes to ticket sales.

Probably the hassle of having to fill all those poster orders would be my guess. I could be wrong, but doesn't 10c do all of their own packaging and shipping in house? I could see how labor intensive that could be, not to mention monotonous. This is why I suggested in my earlier post that posters would have to be picked up at the show. Now those advance purchases are included as part of whatever heir normal tour merchandise logistics would be.

We were shocked at the difference... Longest line I ever experienced in Europe was for the PJ Pop Up Store in Amsterdam 14.., but that was the day before the 1st show. The actual line outside the Ziggo Dome was like the above Trieste... very minimal.

Below: Amsterdam 14 Pop Up Store Line.. It was several hours long..

You could still easily get people to the merchandise counter by simply making one of the conditions when purchasing in advance being that the poster has to be picked up day of the show. Then you set up a table for the show poster pick up and have it conveniently located near the merch truck so when you're inevitably waiting in the poster pick up line, they'll be able to entice you with all the new swag!

Hampton 2016. We got in the merch line at 8:30 a.m., probably at least 70 people ahead of us. The truck was supposed to open at 1pm, it opened at 2:30pm. The once orderly line split into two and people who had been behind me got their merch before me. It was a disaster. If I can pre-order a poster for a show I'm attending sight unseen, I would do so every time. And yes, I do think the pre-order should be limited to those with 10c tix and my lottery win results are pretty crappy.

That’s a great idea. Foo fighters had a preorder option for their pop up shop in Chicago in 2018. Posters weren’t a part of it, but many T-shirts etc could be preordered
