    Grew up in Alaska. Late January they would be out in anchorage all the time if you went up on the hillside and got away from the city lights

    I had a friend that wanted to see them this winter and stay in a hotel made of ice in Sweden, but we never firmed that up. Back to the drawing board.

    No, but that would be something incredible to see.

    Yes, even more majestic would be to see the ice before the melt. Imagine, we get to hear that sound on a song! WOW.

    I was asleep when our ship went past them in Alaska...  I'm still pissed nobody woke me up...

    I am so sorry to hear that. That's terrible!
    They have a new cruise ship with less eco-impact which has a jacuzzi for each suite. That'd be another way I'd be into seeing them.

    I hadn't realized we could see them in that part of the world until I did a quick google search to see where that park is. Your description of them is quite lovely. I love how you added the isolation and wolf sound in!

    nope.  it's on my bucket list.

    I lived in Edmonton for 5 years, and people ask how I never saw them.   Unfortunately we lived downtown and didn't use a car.   No way to see them from all the light pollution :(

    They do seem (not as brightly) to make it to Vancouver Island... there's people that post the odd picture on facebook.  Problem is they seem to be at 3:00am, so I'm out cold sleeping and have no idea I should get up and drive out of the city.

    one day.

    Yes, we have. Rare, but they can dip down this far south to NE Ohio. Stunning.

    @northerndragon definitely has.

    I'd rather see the glaciers at the poles. On my European cruise last August, I met a lady who was photographed in the Antartic kayaking when a whale jumped out behind her and the tail was caught in her photo.

    That sounds nice. You must have quite a few photos then. Any First Nation stories/beliefs you came by up there?

  • Yes
    If you live in the north, this is the site for predicting when the aurora will be good and when it's worth going out to look for. Consider anything above the "4" scale to be excellent, rarely does it hit a 6 even unless there is very high solar activity.

    Wild cold september night in Alaska. No crazy colors but cool white clouds grooving around the sky.

    Missed them another time. People were in awe making lots of noise outside hotel room. I had no clue why!
