Surprise surprise another thread on this forum complaining about something. You don’t like it, don’t go to the show. It’s not complicated.
I couldn’t agree more. I think there are people sitting at home on a Sunday just dreaming up anything to come on the forum and moan about....

So we only get to hear them play for 2 and a half hours instead of 3 plus??? I'm okay with that. The boys are just trying to show some love to some friends. I'm pumped about getting to see Jack Irons behind the kit!

I"ve seen them with nunerous first acts during tours  and they still played almost  three hours. Two hours and me 15 as a minimum.. With of without a pre show, they mostly start it 9pm.
  • If PJ plays 2.5 hours with no fucking covers we all will be happy.

Lame. No thought whatsoever for Josh K. (Friend of the band) and what he has gone through recently.  An “lol” in there doesn’t diminish the thoughtlessness of this post.

Hysterical.  Can you imagine the band and crew actually going through this thought process.  "We're ready to go , but let's take a peak out from behind the curtain and see if the fans are too". Wow. A little too wow

Pearl Jam won't play any less.  We just have to suffer through some shitty band playing yoga music for 45 minutes beforehand.

We'll see what time they go on and how long they play. A 45-minute set that starts at 7:30 followed by the crew setting up from 8:15-? would cut into PJ's stage time. Even if they were to go on right at 8:30, that's at best 2.5 hours till an 11pm curfew.

Can only hope the opener is limited to 30 minutes and PJ is still on by 8:15. Not all places have the 11 curfew though.. gotta believe some of the venues are closer to midnight.. especially the weekend shows.

Yes and PJ does blow through curfews from time to time. I'm not worried about it but I don't agree that the possibility is unlikely. We'll see.

Josh K is a great at playing John Frusciante's music, but can't write a good tune, that's evident by RHCP last two albums. If Jack Irons is in the band for this tour that's cool and has some history, but otherwise, I'd rather have "an evening with Pearl Jam" and no opener. Either way, I'm excited for the show in St Louis!

Yeah, I've only seen Pearl Jam twice, once with Iggy Pop opening and once with Sonic Youth opening, so I'm not upset about it. I'll have to check this band out now.

Something to think about while worrying about this. 2016 tour start and finish times as follows. I did not feel like looking them all up but here is enough to stop us from worrying that the band will not play longer because of the opener. If they do not play longer its because they chose to do so on their own.

Happened Seattle Night 1 2018. My wife, friends and I got to the Safeco line long before the show was supposed to start. Still took us a long time to get to the seats. PJ didn't start right away and waited for those outside lines to calm down. 'LOL' your ways all you want. It happened

Outside lines are different than people not sitting or getting to their seats. Lines outside I understand

I think it is great an opening band is going out with them , not sure why you would not want to hear new music. Instead of standing around for hours waiting for PJ to come out you get an opening band. Plus it will get people into their seats when their set is over. Never understand why people hate hearing a band they have not heard before.
This is what I was getting at (sorry Matts for using your post as example )

The difference between 3 hours of music and 2 hours 20 minutes of music, can be A LOT, depending on which drugs you take.

I mean it is an incredibly easy solution - go to the show after the opener if you don't want to see them, or use the opener as your pre-game time and grab a beer with someone

I doubt Pearl Jam designed it so the sets would be shorter

But, you have to be there before the opener, just in case PJ comes out and play a super-secret and then personally hands out beers and tambos to everyone in the pit! If you skip the opener, you might miss out!

  • I'm happy there's an opener. Then at least you get a gist of when PJ is going to come on. In Boston last year, they told us to be to our seats at a certain time, and the band didn't come out for like another 40 minutes.

As isn't Jack Irons on drums? I know he plays on the record. But is he touring too? That would be cool as hell.
