Dance of the Clairvoyants VS Mind Your Manners

Lightning Bolt was so long ago, I'm curious what people's initial reaction was to MYM compared to DotC. Given the latter has such a positive response so far, I'm wondering if MYM had the same (or similar) reaction prior to LB being released.

I like both. And I listen to DotC like 15 times a day and is not getting tired off it. But I actually think Mind Your Manners is one of their "classics".

Honestly, both.  This is just so different for them, I'll vote for DOTC.

Hmm...this one is tough.  I loved MYM.  Turned out along with Pendulum they were the standouts on LB for me.  I can't decide.

MYM is a better live song to me than on the album. I like DoC better as a studio release

DoTC, more so because it’s fresh on my ears than anything. MyM is pretty great, too, though!

I dug MYM immediately, for how intense it was. how politically charged it was. and I never got tired of it. DotC took time for me to get used to, and I do like it now, but it's still MYM by a mile for me.

This was a tough one. I really like MYM. It carried on the tradition of good "rocking" track 2's, and is fun live. Never liked the title (sounds like something Mary Poppins would say), but it's the only Lightning Bolt song that has resonated with me in any way.

That said, I've listened to DOTC a lot more over the past few days than I think I listened to MYM during it's first week. I like both songs, but if I could only have one for the rest of my life, I'd take MYM.

mind your manners. it's not even close. i loved MYM from first listen and i don't really get DotC. might have to listen to it a bunch of times to get into it - i'm on the "meh" side of things like a few other people on here are. fwiw i'm not a huge fan of 80s new wave.

I went with MYM. Although DotC I think has me more intrigued and excited about the rest of the new album.

They toured that record and song for 5 years. Dance is a solid palette cleanser.

  • Love them both, won't choose. Will say that DotC is the right song for it's time.

MYM is not my favorite song they do, but it rocks.

DOTC got me excited for the new PJ record.  MYM didn't really get me excited for Lightning Bolt.  I didn't like MYM at first.  It grew on me over time and nowadays I think it's a pretty good PJ song, but it's not one I listen to a lot.

I am liking Dance more and more, especially the last 2 minutes of the song.  MYM I a fine song, but I don’t ever need to hear it live again.  Got it at every show since Wrigley 2013 I think, and it seems like filler during a concert.

    No Way!

  • Dance of the Clairvoyants
Mind Your Manners is a good song and a great lead-off that got me stoked for Lightning Bolt - however I was disappointed some of the rockers on the album didn't measure up to the intensity that MYM had!

DOTC is great, and very vibey.  I want to hear it in the context of the full album before fully assessing its relation to the new album, but stricly as a singular song I like it more between the two of them

STBC is one of the only good ones. MYM isn’t.
  • Dance of the Clairvoyants
My reaction to MYM was lukewarm.  I was excited for a new Pearl Jam song but it didn't wow me.  I felt like they were playing things safe.  But DOTC blew my mind.  I can't tell you how many times I've listened to DOTC since it dropped at midnight.  I can't listen to it just once and I keep hearing new things each time.  And Matt's drumming combined with Stone's Bass playing is just out of this world.
