Can you imagine being a fan hearing stuff like who you are for the first time? That was way out there for the band too, but has held up well over time. This album might (hopefully) have some tracks that push the fanbase
When Who You Are came out I initially lost interest in Pearl Jam for awhile. They completely lost me with that one at the time. It turned me off of No Code as a whole too, which is a shame. It took me awhile to fully appreciate it. I still don’t love Who You Are, but I like it better with age and No Code is now in my Top 3 for sure.
That being said I would love to hear something different with Gigaton. Even if it doesn’t hit with me right away. I have enough faith in the band to stick with it and let them take me in a new direction. I can’t fucking wait to hear it!
Often the albums we like / love after 3-4 listens are the ones we get bored of just as quickly. I love rediscovering an album I didn’t ‘get’ first time. It’s the joy of music!
JAN 22 - DANCE OF THE CLAIRVOYANTS MID FEB - SUPERBLOOD WOLFMOON MAR 27 - ALBUM RELESE
Wait, how did you know this?
2nd this. Is Superblood Wolfmoon confirmed as the second single? I didn't hear that.
Before the title was released by Pearl Jam. One person stated, and I paraphrase, "The clip of Dance of the Clairvoyants is real. My friend has heard it. And a song called "Super Bloodmoon" will be released next in the mid of February". This statement was later deleted.
Then a song called "Superblood Wolfmoon" is official, which leads me to believe - THE GODDAMN POIROT THAT I AM - that there is a big chance this song will be released in mid February.

Who You Are might have been a bad single (Hail Hail I guess should have been single 1)

You‘d look awesome with a moustache!
Doesn't gel with my KISS makeup I need to wear in the summer for their concert though

And just as often, established fans lap up whatever a band puts out, under the guise of open mindedness when reality it’s the exact opposite.
Im excited for the new album, even if I end up hating it. New producer could really shake things up in a musically adventurous way.
I thought Buckle Up sounded like a good place to start the record.
I thought that too. or Retrograde

I remember exactly where I was when I heard “who you are”. A radio station in Montreal played the album in its entirety!

I agree completely, I still don’t like ‘who you are’. I love the fact the band want to challenge their fans, but making poor choices on singles releases isn’t challenging it’s just annoying. The fact that the band still plays songs such as ‘Black’ at every gig and rarely play ‘Who You Are’ says to me that the majority of fans agree that some songs that weren’t chosen as singles should have been and some that were shouldn’t have.

Yea. Agree with @Spiritual_Chaos that the single for No Code probably should have been Hail Hail. I was in High School at the time and I just remember that the buzz in the hallways after Who You Are was just brutal for Pearl Jam. They lost a lot of fans that I think never really came back after. It really might have changed their whole trajectory if they would've just picked a more palatable single like Hail Hail. Then again, I also think that the loss of fans that occurred with the release of No Code may actually be what allowed them to survive this long and still be playing & putting out music. So, I guess I'm happy that Who You Are was the single??? LOL
Also, I really like having this thread be the one place to discuss album stuff because we either get 15 threads for every little thing or we get 1 thread and its getting lost in the 900 threads devoted to ticketing issues and roll calls.

I wonder if they were on the track to "less buzz" anyways after VS and then Vitalogy with how different they were to Ten and with Vitalogy being weird with some big songs sprinkled in between.
So, I wonder if they had continued on the "Animal", "Go", "Last Exit" etc path what would have happened in terms of radioplay etc. And them not having videos on MTV etc.
Eddies Beverly Hills hotness can only take a band so many albums.

Thought it could be a "good" thing to collect stuff regarding the album and a "cool" historic document about the album -- SO NO ONE CAN CHANGE OPINION THREE ALBUMS LATER!

But it's very nice live. And not only in 1996.
