Many terrible ones. I've been the victim of this several times myself. The first time it happened I was 14 and the man was at least 30.
Sorry to hear you had to go through that.  That's just disgusting.  Were you able to report him?

Oh no. That was back when nothing was ever done about that stuff. I did call him out so everyone on the train knew, but nobody did anything. It did make him get off the train, but that's it. Another time when a guy grabbed me and tried to maul me sexually in a crowd, I started yelling "pervert! pervert!" and pushed him against the crowd hard, and some guy punched him in the face, and then he ran off. That was more satisfying. Another time when a group of men tried to drag me into a van, I managed to punch one of them with the keys I had sticking out of my knuckles for protection. But all the other times, the men had better plans and were out of there after the groping before I or anyone could do anything... Things are better in last few years though. Now there are way more cameras and stuff installed in public spaces, so there is more of a point to reporting it now. Plus, the police and media actually react to reports now. Before maybe 5 or 6 years ago I guess, if you reported incidents like this, they'd usually just tell you there is nothing they can do, basically (which is what I was told when I was being stalked by a guy I didn't know for 3 months once... they said that until he actually harmed me physically, they couldn't do shit).  But the fact remains that even with better reactions from authorities and with more cameras, these kinds of assaults are very unnerving and unsettling for women, and most people's natural reaction is not to report it. It's embarrassing, they feel like they don't want to draw attention to it, there is an ineffable sense of shame (that doesn't mean they think it's their fault) that keeps them from reporting. Plus, they feel like there is nothing anyone will really do about it anyhow, they can' provide a good description, so don't think there is any point... That's a justified feeling. But it is getting better. But what's not getting better is the men doing it. Oddly, it doesn't seem to me like there are fewer men doing these things, even with the higher awareness about it.

  • The dragging into the van story is the one that got me.

It’s one thing to play grab ass on a sky train... it’s a whole other to forcibly confine someone with the intent to... eesh.

    Men are a menace.

Yeah I been groped in crowded transit and in concerts. Once I was able to catch the guy's arm and cuss him out. It's very annoying and unpleasant but trying to be forced into a van would be terrifying. How awful!
