I am kind of surprised the email didn't explain how the membership levels would work now because that was the first question I had. Oh well unless they come up with something good I will probably just switch to digital. I almost never read the deep issues I got and other than those first couple of years with the mini posters, stickers and patches the member items haven't been that great, although in the last couple of years the t shirts have gotten a lot better. But as the Canadian exchange rate dropps again the price of an international membership gets harder to pay.
Definitely the end of an era. We'll never get the full story, but I always wondered what the challenges were in getting two songs out on wax each year in a timely fashion. Then again I'm not in a world famous rock band, don't run a fan club for a world famous rock band, nor have I ever pressed a record.
I wonder if they just don't really have any unreleased full band material left that isn't either crappy demos or just plain bad. They release all the live music and they haven't been in the studio since, like, Bush was president, so what's left? Can't get blood from a stone.
Because the logistics/packaging design/pressing/shipping/whatever else isn't exactly some insurmountable task. Who knows really.
I always thought the annual 7" single was one of the coolest things going here. And of another era. Too bad.
I downgraded to digital. Which is a bummer because I never use digital downloads. I'm a vinyl guy. So now for $20 I have to privileged of being able to post on the forums here. Too bad there's not a "post only" option for less money. Oh well, I blown twenty bucks on worse things.
We all know that we’re in the club for the (chance at) tickets..... fingers crossed that doesn’t change.... they’d watch this place empty out.
Correction: most not all. I'm not.

Regarding membership, if you auto renewed this december, what year is this renewal for?
2018. I have a December exp date too.

As many already wondered, what happens to the 2 levels? In reality it should go down to a flat $10 since even a digital membership is getting less than before without a digital single. Without the single this becomes just a ticket advantage, which most are here for anyway. But with a tour once every 5 years can they really charge more than $10 for just that? I certainly hope they don’t still charge $40 after this.

I mean, they created the complainers. All they had to do was release the singles in a somewhat timely fashion.
Exactly. How many people would buy something on, let's say, eBay and have to wait a year to receive what they paid for and not complain? Why should this be different?
All moot now, of course.

I bet info about membership levels is coming after the first of the year when the TC store is open.

I feel like Clarke Griswold when he found out he was being enrolled in the jelly of the month club. The band hasn't been into it for quite a while so as others have said I hope they release an extra vault or maybe a newer show on vinyl each year to go along with an older one
Well, now to look at the new membership information. I would assume they will only have 1 type and hopefully is less than $20. Digital membership is really not worth more than that. My membership renews in March, hopefully the new memberships will be communicated asap. Kinda wondering what January renewees are doing.
Sorry to those that care about this. I really do not care about this personally but understand that those, especially ones that have been around for a bit, looked forward to this. I hope this is a one and done for cancelations and stuff like PJ Radio does not get the axe as well.

Tickets and a t-shirt (for now).
After the issues over the past couple of years with these, I was wondering if they were just going to stop doing it. Sad to be right, though, as some have said, the singles were a little more special when they were unreleased tracks. Will seriously consider downgrading my membership. I have plenty of t-shirts.

Fair enough. You’d stay a member if seniority meant nothing and you got no special chance at tickets though? If so, im definitely impressed!
At first I was like "Oh man, that sucks". Then I realized they haven't done anything original for these singles in what....10-15 years? "Hey band, we got to release the Christmas single this year." "Goddamn it, that means we should get together and do something?" "No, we stopped doing that back in '98...where have you been? We just add a couple of live tracks that everyone has heard already and ship them out in April." "Hmmm...we should charge more for this perk!" "Agreed"
LOL. Exactly. They clearly stopped putting much effort into these a long time ago so not much of a loss here. Hopefully they'll put more of a focus on vault releases going forward...

I'm in that boat. Hard to justify staying in simply for a chance at tickets for a band that barely tours and for the privilege of posting here. Gotta be something else...
Sad. Gives some insight into the state of the band. Spending time in the studio being creative together don't seem to be the driving force keeping the guys together.
"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"
What year are we on anyway? They could raise the membership to $100 if they wanted and people would still pay for the hopes of tickets for a tour. They really have us by the short and curlies.

Hopefully something is communicated soon. I auto-renew January 20.

Yes, seniority means nothing to me as I no longer attend shows.

certainly true, but the single has barely ever been the band creating new music in the studio. Only a handful of examples out of 50ish songs
Well I hope they take the time to totally redo the fan club, but being that it’s almost Jan 1 and they haven’t communicate any changed except this downsizing, I doubt that will happen.
Id gladly pay more $ for some cool benefits....of course we all have different understanding of what is “cool benefits” for us.
The only thing I'm really wondering is, since I just downgraded to digital this year (analog up to and including 2017), if I can go ahead and just give them the extra $20 to move up to analog to guarantee me the final single? Has anyone done this before? I mean, no harm no foul at this point.
