    A bombshell story last night from the Wall Street Journal reported that billionaire Elon Musk, one of the richest men in the world, who is backing the election of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump with a daily million-dollar sweepstakes giveaway and gifts of tens of millions to the campaign, has been in regular contact with Russian president Vladimir Putin since late 2022. Reporters Thomas Grove, Warren P. Strobel, Aruna Viswanatha, Gordon Lubold, and Sam Schechner said that the conversations “touch on personal topics, business and geopolitical tensions.” 

    Musk’s SpaceX, which operates the Starlink satellite system, won a $1.8 billion contract with U.S. military and intelligence agencies in 2021. It is the major rocket launcher for NASA and the Pentagon, and Musk has a security clearance; he says it is a top-secret clearance.

    Today, NASA administrator Bill Nelson called for an investigation into the story. “If the story is true that there have been multiple conversations between Elon Musk and the president of Russia,” Nelson told Burgess Everett of Semafor, “then I think that would be concerning, particularly for NASA, for the Department of Defense, for some of the intelligence agencies.”

    Musk appears to be making a bid for control of the Republican Party for a number of possible reasons, including so he can continue to score federal contracts and because the high tariffs Trump has promised to place on Chinese imports would guarantee that Musk would have leverage in the electrical vehicle market. 
    this WOULD have been a bombshell prior to 2016. Now? No one will care.

    Elon's really good at what he does with the site formerly known as Twitter.

    A month ago my feed was a barrage of Trump love, trying to get people on board. Then a couple of weeks ago it was full of Jill Stein voters trying to get people to at least not vote for Harris. Now it's confident Harris voters, likely trying to get people to stay home in the "knowledge" that she's got this.

    I don't really know how many people this works on but it's a hell of a tactic.

    It’s called “suppressing” the vote by communicating that “your” side is fine, so if you haven’t voted yet, you don’t need to. Been around for ages.

    And it works on “enough.” Falls under “Election Fuckery.”

    i muted and blocked him when he bought twitter. there has never been a person who thought more highly of his own tweets and his own opinions than elon. so much so that he moved his tweets to the front of the algorithm to make sure everyone saw them.

    Is your feed set to those you follow? If it's on the "For You" feed then you just need to change it.
    I only recently found the "For You" and "Following" tabs. LOL. That's OK though, seeing my feed recently has been fascinating.

    Facebook has become innocuous/worthless. And that's fine. Twitter's an absolutely disaster and I blame myself for still using it.
    GenZ doesn't even use FB much.

    It seems to be reserved mostly for GenX people to share memes that they pass off as news
    So it's akin to what happened to email 20 years ago with those stupid chain emails and fwds. At least email was able to shed that bullshit since everyone started putting that dumb shit on social media. My email is just filled with business promotions now. Need to unsubscribe or block all the time.
    It's a hopeless situation...
