Over used phrases

There are lots of sayings that are heard on the news, on talk shows that then find themselves onto social media and into regular life that become annoying.

I'll start with just one and see if anyone has interest in this...

"We've got a lot to unpack here"  Or any variation of the unpacking sentiment. Enough already. Drives me crazy.

I've got others but I'll wait to hear yours....

Knowing nothing about it, I’m going to guess sports.

I'm gonna google it - if it's over used it should be easy to find.

    You feel me.

No, no, I don't feel you. I have no desire to feel you.

Yes. After every game of Aussie Rules football. Everytime the media interview a player that is what is said.

"Let's put a pin in it" - let me put a pin in YOU.  If you want to continue at a later time, say so.
"It's been a minute" - I'd feel like an idiot saying this.  What does it even mean?  It reminds me of the Seinfeld where everyone started eating their dessert with a fork and knife because Mr. Pitt did.
"I don't know how to adult" (or some variation) - if you're using the word in that way, you're not an adult.

I am so sick of that one.  People use it like they're saying something profound.

Not a phrase, but people really over use the word "unique."  My fave was a news reporter who said, "Not only is it unique but it's the only one of its kind in the world."
"The stars are all connected to the brain."

Or any variation of "to tell you the truth", "Honestly" or "I'll be honest". Really? Thanks, now I know not to believe one word about to come out of your mouth.

Even worse to me is I feel your pain.  I understand that this is meant to express sympathy or maybe even empathy, but it is a false and impossible sentiment.  You do not feel my pain.  You might have similar experiences that are painful but that only means you feel your pain, not mine.  This is a phrase that should never be expressed by anyone in counseling another person.

I agree completely. The two phrases are used in completely different ways. You feel me? is a substitute for Do you understand? but is often said  repeatedly. For no apparent reason.

If you have never been through the same loss or tragedy, you can only sympathize. If you have been through the same you can empathize but you can never feel someone else's pain. No one can feel my pain; although they can feel FOR me. Having been through a lot of tragedy and loss, I usually tell a suffering person that I know there is nothing I can do to make it better but I am so sorry and I am always available to listen. The only positive that comes with a life of tragedy is the ability to understand people a bit better and know to not over step in times of sorrow. And when you and a person have both been through, say abuse, there is an unspoken understanding; as with, say, the loss of a sibling. Words are not needed, they've joined the club and it's understood. And it's different for everyone.
