On a emotional connection, I feel that Pearl Jam, the new album, is where I am now. I enjoy it a lot more. Its more current. And for that reason it is my favorite.
Musically, I think Vitalogy is the greatest. Its so dark. Last Exit, Whipping, Spin the Black Circle, have unbriddled passion...an unleashing of emotion...Tremor Christ and Immortality, are just a feeling all to them self...Genius.
Ten is my least favorite PJ. In the history books it has its place, and will always be great, but as I said before, I can't even remember the last time i listened to the album itself....
(I can hear a boooo from the crowd... )

I agree with this...Ten's sound is so boring. It has no energy especially after listening to the speed they play these songs live. I can still listen to Versus because it's production is so good, But Ten sounds dated and blah.... I think Eddie himself has said the exact same thing.
Ten is an awesome album.
- explore and not explode -
exactly I almost want to tell people not to buy it at work and thrust sometihng else (usually no code) at them but I realized that if they are buying Ten now they probably don't want No Code just a better sounding nickelback
(and I'm not saying Ten=nickelback but in their buckcherry lovin heads it does)

Great, great songs.
"I am ahead, I am advanced, I am the first man to borrow Stones leather pants."
Stone Gossard: Is the height of fashion. More poeple should take note, and learn from a master
My personal favorite (although it definetly depends on the day) would be Yield.
Frankly I can find something to love about each record, but Ten is a little boring now, after such incredible works as ... well everything following Ten.

Morgan Freeman/Clint Eastwood 08' for President!
"Make our day"
Introspective, philosophy filled lyrics.. light feeling.. best melodies on any Pearl Jam album... without sacrificing the energy.
And also, every song on it is spectacular and unique

Over the past 15 years, PJ has greatly developed into top rate musicians (as well as people)...Look at Pearl Jam. The differant sounds..Come on, Parachutes, which I happen to Love (and happens to be playing right now), sounds like nothing else on the album, with the exception that it has a PJ feel to it...
I dont know, the depth shown in the entire PJ catalog, on every Album, sountrack, etc after Ten, is undeniable, and I think to hold Ten above any of them is unjust...Its a piece of the puzzle, and perhaps the keystone to their future entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but take it away, and I hold PJ just as high....

Boring? I'm a fan of Yield myself, but nothing compares emotionally to the closing 3 tracks of Ten when Garden, Deep and Release just tear my freaking heart out every time. One day, probably a few years after the album came out, these three songs just hit me hard (my Senior year of college). I don't think I ever cried because of music before, and I still will shed an occassional tear when playing them back to back to back if I'm alone and driving in the right mood.
1998 (2) - East Lansing & Auburn Hills; 2000 (2) - Tampa & Noblesville; 2003 (2) - Lexington & Noblesville; 2006 (1) - Cincinnati; 2007 (1) - Chicago (Lollapalooza); 2008 (Ed in Milwaukee); 2009 (1) - Chicago; 2010 (1) - Noblesville; 2013 (3) - San Diego & Los Angeles I & II; 2016 (Temple of the Dog in Los Angeles); 2017 (Ed at Ohana in Dana Point);
2021 (3) - Dana Point I, II & III; 2022 (3) - San Diego & Los Angeles I & II; 2025 - Southern U.S. Tour Please!
As for Vs. I really like the songs, but I don't think the production on this one is that outstanding either. On this same note, the new album sounds a lot like Vs. to me.

YIELD is the best album ever. But you all know that already.
Would Wash and Alone be as good songs as they are if they were on Ten...For me(and I think with many others) there is a certain mystique with B sides. Wash especially is a great song, but its also a great B side song; a lost dog. It would still be good if it were on Ten, and it probably would become more mainstream if it were on Ten, but the B sides, and songs like Wash are special for the Real fans. They're not for the normies.
I dont know. Its like the christmas singles from the Ten club. They're for the true fans. (another problem with Ten; everybody loves Ten. But how many people throw out Yield, or No Code as their favorite PJ album. Most of the time you get, "oh yeah, I haven't heard that one yet")

There's no mystery as to what Ed is singing about in Ten, it's the closest to Ed's mind we get. It's raw, it's badass, and it's almost like a pleasant history lesson in the life of the Vedster, and the early 90's.
Ten captured an era, something the other album's don't do as well. (Oh, and I also love the lack of politics from Ten. Ten is all about the emotion.)
1) Vitalogy
2) Yield
3) Ten
4) No Code
5) Riot Act
6) Vs.
7) Pearl Jam
8) Binaural
another reason many of us don't listen to Ten anymore is because the damn thing is worn out. I was in HS had it on tape (yes it was that long ago) and am now on my third CD.
You listen to something a million times over and over and it loses a bit of its luster, but let's not get crazy here. Ten is the cream of the crop. Not only does it have the most hits but some of the most emotional songs they've ever written.
I dare you to find 4 songs with more heart, grit, and emotion than Black, Porch, Release, and Alive on any one album of PJ.
better yet, find a group of 4 songs that are better than those...I double shit dare you
Vs. - WMA, Daughter, RVM, Indifference
Vitalogy - Immortality, Corduroy, Nothingman, Last Exit
I'm not buying Vs. though. RVM is at or above the level as it is simply badass but the other 3 songs aren't elite IMO.
Just one man's opinion
Vitalogy is my favorite, so I think you could almost the whole album there....including aye davinita, and Pry, To as muscially great songs..plus vitalogy far and away has the best concept, cover art, book...
No Code: somtimes, in my tree (my favorite PJ song especially on the MSG DVD, great version), Habit, Presant Tense, I'm Open, ...TRUE< they did not reach the startdom that the first three albums had, but is the emotion still there, Yes. Not teen angst, but then again they were probably close to 30 at this point. if they were still spitting out teen angst, they would be any of the other copy cats...
Yield: GTF, MFC, DTE (plenty of grit and emotion in this one..maybe not sadness and longing, but there are many emotions)
Binaural: maybe not so much here...
Pearl Jam: i think its polished, but its alive, and still emotional, just a more mature emotion....Can't blame the guys for getting older...Especially when they are still giving 110% and the music is still rockin'...

but I always thought they were just Fing around with those songs
oddball filler IMO
love that album though, really not a weak song out of the bunch and many of their finest. Courderoy is not to be messed with!

Vs. was a difficult one just to top Black with. I was going for emotion in the vocals which I feel Ed closely comes to in the ones I listed (WMA, Daughter, Indifference), but doesn't meet it. RVM was the obvious pick for me, meets Black's power in a different way in my book.
I admit, I couldn't do No Code, Yield, Binaural, Riot Act, or Avocado...
