Kavanaugh had a big impact in the Senate.

Overall a mixed bag.  Squeaking OT the House is nice, but Trump lost half as many seats as Obama did in 2010. Nice diversity (2 Muslim women, an openly gay Governor, Kim Davis losing).  Nice to see Kobach lose.

But those who say the Dems can’t just be “not Trump” are right.  He’s popular enough to win and have coattails.

Women have been the real winners of this election. In Governorships and House seats.

Dems get Oregon, California, New Mexico, Michigan governors - 3 women and Gavin Newsom. Minnesota goes all blue. Iowa looks to go all blue except for possibly  fucking Steve King.

Yes! In NM we went mostly blue. The house rep. In my district is a Native American woman who has worked with a lot tribal governments here. There was also another woman Native American elected from Kansas. I am encouraged by the diversity of the candidates.  Biggest disappointment for me is having to see Ted Cruz for 6 more yrs.

It's amazing that it took this long to have Native Americans in Congress. Congratulations on the winners in NM. As for Cruz, I don't think there are many people that look forward to seeing him, including his colleagues.

Maine just announced a Dem woman will replace the ever repugnant Paul LaPage as governor.

And the proud districts in New York and California that re elected indicted Chris Collins and Duncan Hunter. I hope they enjoy being represented from federal prison. :not_listening:  And the oh so proud Iowans that sent the white supremacist Steve King back to Washington. Job done very not well people.

King got back in? I'm shaking my head at the electorate there. He's repugnant.

It was better than expected in my opinion but my expectations were pretty low. However with the opposing party now the majority in Congress we would hope the President and his party will be challenged on decisions and also the investigations into possible criminal or comprising activity will go forward. In theory anyway, our government is supposed to have this as a check and balance system which wasn't happening in the last couple years.

I think the Democrats had very high expectations.  They were facing a party that has a clown for POTUS, no filter on his brain for his thoughts, and those thoughts fire off randomly in the middle of the night, every night.

My opinion is that the Feinstein hail mary for the supreme court really botched their senate hopes.

Cordray hasn't lost yet,  but it's not looking great.
no official totals yet but turnout was 50% or so..... wwhich for Ohio means approx 4 million stayed home.

    It went very well.

Ot went fairly close to what all the polling and models said was most likely.  It is good because we were fearing another big bump over the polling numbers for republicans.

Ideally, i would have preferred a bigger wave of people who cant stand a cartoon character as unchecked president.  And some bad guys did win.  If there is another supreme court seat, it is all but a slam dunk.

But control of the house was always the focus and goal, and it was accomplished.  Its a big deal.  Any major legislation will need to go through the house. It is no longer a trump rubber stamp.   They can subpoena records from trump and his corrupt cabinet.  Get the tax returns.  They will form committees and panels and make things much more difficult for trump.

I also took gender into account this year (and for the last few elections).  While it wasn't a deciding factor like it was for you, it was a factor.  And I think that I did vote for a women in each office where one was running.

Well, we all knew how he would spin this.  However, I do think some of the results were unfortunately favorable for Trump.  The Senate is even more R isn't it?  There goes impeachment.  Florida and Ohio went way more Red then I had hoped.  This was a mixed bag election.

Yup, that's important for sure.  Looking at the vote difference throughout the country in the contested races...man, split as a nation.  There is no Mandate for a senator elected by 70,000 votes...governors by thousands.  It really shows where we are.  We truly need a leader that brings people together again and I fear that won't happen without a HUGE national tragedy at this point.  We certainly won't get it from this Admin.

It really is dependent on the candidates. MN re-elected Klobuchar for Senate and she's probably the only state wide candidate to win anything substantial in the rural districts.
