My gut tells me that the repubs' own internal polling showed that he was the only one who could beat Hillary out of the field of 19. However, it was so close, within the margin of error, that they couldn't take any chances, hence the knowing collusion with putin on the ritz. Once their internal polling showed them that this was their only chance to win and prevent Hillary from occupying the White House, they basically stepped aside. Do you really think none of the other candidates' campaigns didn't have opposition research showing what we all now know? Doesn't it seem oddly suspicious that none of them came after him for his failures, both personally and in the business world? It was a wink- wink, nod-nod marriage of convenience, never fully realizing what they'd done. But since we're here, hey, tax breaks for the wealthy and conservative judges all-around. I find nothing rosy about what is going on in our country. I don't know why you are disagreeing with me when we are in agreement. I will not vilify every person who is or has been a Republican though. Trump has taken over the party and it is his cult now and there is a lot of cowardice in a lot of Republicans. We disagree on one simple thing - not every Republican is complicit. Two of the people who were targeted are/were Republicans who have opposed Trump. So there's 2, at least.

I agree with you that the rank and file are in lock step and they are in a take no prisoner stance. The inability for any Republicans to say what is blatantly obvious is completely unpatriotic IMHO. Trump is stirring a dangerous pot of hate and misinformation. Interviews with Trump supporters show just how brainwashed the base is. One guy was saying that Obama either sent a bomb to himself or paid the asshole to send it to him. What? Seriously, this country has completely forgone common sense for tribalism and with no check on government at the moment, we are in a dangerous situation.
