Soon it will be revealed that this is the Second Coming:

This is the sort of liberal rhetoric that I think is pushing people away from the party. Fiery? Whatever. Woman? I don't care. Minority? Again, don't care. Socialist? Yes, I care about this because I dislike the concept of socialism. Am I allowed to dislike her based on the fact that she supports something I dislike? Or am I sexist, racist, asshole for disliking her?

Ocasio-Cortez is being lambasted for making a few blunders in a recent interview.  So she should be canned, right?  No, I don't think so.  That would be like saying Pearl Jam should be kicked off stage in the early days because Eddie botched a lyric or Mike missed a chord.  She's 28, has a lot of great ideas and lots of time to develop her political chops. Besides, compared to the blunders our current POTUS has made, her goofs are minor.  The media wants you to think otherwise.  Don't buy it.

What do I like about here platform?  This:

-She's hard-core pro environment.  Great start right there.
-She's in favor of impeaching Trump.  Good to go!
-She supports LGBT Community.  Right on.
-Pro universal healthcare.  Seems very reasonable to me.
    - Wants tuition free college and trade schools.  Did I hear someone say "make America strong again"?  This is the way.
-Believes housing is a human right.  And a humane viewpoint.
    -Supports reasonable campaign reform.
    - In favor of ending the war on drugs.

In my opinion, a sound package.  Let's not give up on potential greatness.
In my opinion, she is a university trained barmaid ... with a degree in ignorance and a minor in intolerance .

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) on Saturday referred to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democratic congressional nominee who is seen as a rising star in her party, as “this girl Ocasio-Cortez or whatever she is.”

DeSantis, who is running for governor and has the support of President Donald Trump, made his remarks during a campaign event in Orange Park, Florida.

“You look at this girl Ocasio-Cortez or whatever she is, I mean, she’s in a totally different universe,” he said to laughs. “It’s basically socialism wrapped in ignorance.”

I'm sorry if I sound like a dink here but come on man, are you kidding?  She's a Democratic Socialist, not a Socialist.   How many times do the several of us who have pointed out that there is a difference between the two before the few here that don't (or WON'T) get it?  Are you really not reading or understanding this or is it easier to make a false statement that sounds like a good put-down?

    Well that's a brilliant post.

All I'm getting from you post is referring to Democratic Socialists as "dinks".   I didn't call anyone else names- I just basically said I didn't mean to sound like an asshole.

To me socialism is essentially a continuum:

    Socialism - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Capitalism.
Neither extreme end of the spectrum is actually going to work.  100% socialism is going to kill the incentive to really do anything if we all literally achieve the same rewards regardless of what we do.  100% capitalism is essentially a barter system that we are far too big and advanced to sustain.  The moment there is a government, socialism exists.

Most people that decry "socialsm" dislike socialism; well, except for the parts they like.  The military, for example, is a great example of socialism.  We are taxed, whether we want to pay or not, so we can have it.  I'm not quite sure how that would work in a 100% free market.  Almost all people like other socialistic things as well: roads,* the coining of money, police/crime/punishment.  Things that they think are necessary and/or benefit them.  Still a majority (for now) like things like public education. I'm guessing most like things like national parks (and the general concept people not just being able to claim land by use of force) and environmental protection (perhaps the best example of the myth of the market's ability to fix everything).

As America moves to the right, most probably are now against things like social security, minimum wage, welfare, FEMA, NASA, etc.  Though it's really funny how many of those folks feel when the local sports team puts its hand out for a new stadium.

In any case, most of us like socialism to some degree.  And to simply decry someone as "socialist" is incomplete at best and a catch-phrase scare tactic at worst.

The nearly-capitalist paradise we are moving toward is going to be quite austere.  Once we right the wrong that kids "deserve" public education simply for being born, eliminate social safety nets, and just start letting people die because of all the money at stake, it's going to be ugly.

Yes, I care about this because I dislike the concept of socialism. Am I allowed to dislike her based on the fact that she supports something I dislike? Or am I sexist, racist, asshole for disliking her?
Are people really not aware that there is a big difference between socialism and democratic socialism, or do they just refuse to acknowledge the difference because acknowledging it hurts their argument?
