I promise you that Dan is far from lazy with this design. Just because an artist works in a series or, as with Don Pendleton, in a particular style does not mean that they work any less on creating the piece.
Different things for different people. I am thrilled it isn't another skull design.
Eddie Vedder São Paulo - 18”x24” screenprint, 8 colours , artists edition of 100. £60 (£6 uk / £13 shipping USA/Rest of the world )
Due to a huge demand for the last two Eddie Vedder posters we are doing this third one slightly differently. The print will not be available in store at all, it will only be available through a random lottery.
To enter the Eddie Vedder São Paulo lottery, please email veddermumford@gmail.com with the subject EV LOTTERY and your full address in the email, please no other information, just your address! The lottery will close on Tuesday morning at 9am PST / 5pm UK / at which point we will then be randomly choosing winners from the entrants. Winners will be emailed from this email account and then sent a separate invoice via PayPal. Winners will have 48 hours to pay before we choose another winner for that copy. Please don’t email this email account for anything else, the mail order team won’t be responding to any requests or other emails. It is simply to enter the lottery.
If you were one of the few people who were refunded on the Kentucky EV print you will have been emailed already, please check your mail! if you believe you were one of those people and have not been emailed contact dan@dan-mumford.com with your transaction information.
I don't think the term "lazy" is accurate either. Obviously a lot of hours and work go into creating artwork like this. Maybe the word people are looking for is "uninspired". I can see how one would be tempted to repeat a concept that was previously very successful. I still think the London poster was the best, due to the colors, but I entered the lottery for Sao Paulo since I don't have either of the others. Good luck!
I think that when folks are used to being viewers of art and not creators of such things, a series may look as a way to ride the coattails of a prior success. For centuries, artists have worked in series or formula. Just because someone works within a particular frame of inspiration doesn't mean any less for their work. Sometimes the viewers disagree and honestly, you'll have that.
No one told Georgia O'Keefe that she was lazy for painting flowers. Van Gogh went through the blue period. Albrecht Durer had a similar way of working on plates-- a style that you can recognize without knowing that his initials are buried in there somewhere. Joseph Cornell created boxes, the most delicious boxes ever, such greatness contained within. Sol LeWitt had instructions that he gave off to people to interpret and create from. Andy Warhol worked pop art, soup cans to brillo pads and such. Rothko . . . Lichtenstein . . . Oldenburg . . .
The fact is that Dan is a true talent. As a printmaker by degree, I absolutely love his work. My friend owns the Louisville print and I threatened to hug its beauty. (I was allowed to air hug. He didn't want creases. )
A beautiful triptych. My thoughts? He'll probably leave it at three and move on from there. Such beauty in the work he creates. Not for everyone, but definitely for those who own delight in a thoughtfully created work.
You have to enter your shipping address. Also, I read that multiple entries from one person will be ignored and discarded. I would play it safe and enter once.
I remember a few people here had their Bourbon orders cancelled and they get automatic dibs on this poster. So the lottery is definitely going to have less than 100 winners. It’ll be fun. Id love to get the final piece!
re: artwork. London is untouchable. The colors, the emotion of that tour and addressing Cornell. It all shows in that drawing. The red sky on the variant is terrific. I think its a top 5 PJ poster ever. I would like to see something else but if anything a third one enhances the whole deal and makes it less lazy to me and more a series.
Id still love to see what he does with a non-bridge PJ poster tho. He’s an incredible artist. Doing a ton of stuff for Disney now.
It’s interesting that they want your address in the email. Perhaps an attempt to weed out flippers by cross referencing eBay sales?
I'm thinking to avoid multiple entries. It's easy (and probably pretty common) to have multiple e-mail addresses, but your shipping address will probably be the same each time.
"I'm a lucky man, to count on both hands the [shows I've done]. Some folks just have one, others they got none..."
I'm guessing there will be a lot of shenanigans with people putting in like 20 entries. Therefore all of our odds are likely to be minuscule at best. I'll be shocked if I get chosen. It's a beautiful poster.

Might just be for the invoicing part of it, So they know how much to invoice the winner for shipping cost.
