I hope everybody gets a show, but rewarding particular states because they got 2016 wrong would be aggravating. I'd prefer to spend my dollars in states that didn't hand their electoral votes to Donald Trump. Thoughts and prayers as always to the poor red states.

Arizona is not a swing state. Looking back to 2016, HRC campaigning there late in the process instead of in actual swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin is part of what lost her the election.

It is difficult to understand how REM would not want to play shows together for fun. I wonder if they are taking themselves too seriously or if they really just don’t get any enjoyment out of it. Like they are trying to protect some legacy. We just want to hear them play live again. It doesn’t need to be some spectacle. Oh well.
sounds like Mike downplayed the new album this morning, as in still in the writing phase. How can a band member say this and a guy in the know, Dimi, says its done??? Tour with no new album?
Reading Mike's body language on that Fox appearance today, my opinion was he was *really* trying hard to hold back on something he wanted to say.
Either he wanted to spill the beans about the record being done and ready to release, or trying really hard not to throw his bandmates under the bus.

since they didn't want to make music anymore (I believe), they probably didn't want to become a nostalgia act playing county fairs.

Talk about stadium tours, Green Day on sale for next summer $300-600 for field. Lower level $200 and best uppers start at $180. Lower in a stadium is not exactly close to the stage.
$20 per ticket premium for any seat within 4 from aisle
I know it includes Weezer and FOB, but I think they're naming this tour the Hella Mega Guts Tour?
I guess Green Day is as big as a draw as the top bands but am a bit surprised. Any non airline level seat is over $200 and the best seats double or triple that. I'd rather see them charge close to FMV but...wow.
That is absurd thank god I don’t have not even a gram of interest in any of those bands , I’ll never pay hundreds of $$$ to see PJ ever again I’m sorry but I’m def not into them like I was in 91 through 2000 , so they can keep their ballparks shows to themselves as far as I’m concerned ...
Here is the thing about the Green Day high cost. They have VIP packages for that high price that does NOT involved the band. You get merch. See below.
People have been wanting PJ to offer merch with tickets for years. Those prices is what it would cost. Do the math.
Rainbow Unicorn VIP Package Rainbow Unicorn VIP Package details- Green Day tour

Forgetting about their VIP sale, their standard tickets for rear turf are $250 and platinum are $300 to $500.

Its a lot of money, and even pearl jam's prices well North of $100 now gives me pause, especially in a stadium setting. Wanted to hit tool this tour and saw the price and bailed. Add in travel costs, refreshments, poster(s) and its a lot of scratch for a consumable experience (and yes, the fact that I have done it 25+ times is a major factor)... Now the major venues/performers and even sports teams have figured out how to tier seat pricing at a micro level based on proximity/comfort/etc like aisle seats.
I recently saw claypool lennon delirium/flaming lips and later trombone shorty for a fraction of these prices and they blew my mind. Like top 5 concert experiences.
Got decent Tool lowers for $150 + fees for two shows that sold out within an hour. I thought that was a fair price
I would have paid more to sit closer but could not get the platinum. The price jump was a little crazy, from 150+ to $350 for platinum. But glad they offer access to all fans except the first 3-4 rows which required club fees .

Right. They could play theaters though until the day they die. It is the newer fans that miss out I guess. I have never seen REM before so to me it wouldn't feel like a nostalgia act, but if you were following the band for 25 years I could see (like we argue here about PJ) that they are a nostalgia act and the die hards complain.

i hear ya. local band that is big fans of rem broke up, then reformed, play sporadic shows in 1500 seat venues, no new music. the watchmen. been a band 30 years, except during the hiatus. one thing that sort of makes me wonder is, the drummer was quoted as saying prior to the first show that they won't keep coming back every year, there has to be a reason. well, since then, they've come back every year, with no new music. first show was a reunion....second show was a live recording put to vinyl, third show was a release show of that record....i have seen them several times since.....so....i'm still hoping for this reason they keep coming back.

I saw 3/4 of R.E.M. at a benefit at the Fox in Atlanta last Friday. The R.E.M. songs played were Fall On Me, The One I Love, and Texarkana. Kevn Kinney sang lead on the first two. Mike Mills sang lead on Texarkana. It was quite a thrill to see Berry, Buck, and Mills on stage together. I hadn’t seen that since 1995.

I think people have wanted the option to preorder posters and maybe a tour shirt with their ticket. which I think, given the flippers market, is reasonable.
Back on the 2009 tour I remember getting an email from the 10club saying that whoever had tickets to the shows at the United Center could pre-order a poster before the show.
Santos talked about this on the old Rob Bleetstein/Tim Bierman radio show. He kind of implied that it killed the secondary market and that was why they stopped doing it. I remember thinking that was a strange concern to have.
I think I understand that concern, if he did say that. Let's face it, people want rare items or items they feel is special. If the secondary market dries up, a lot of people won't want these anymore. And before you know it, they probably stop selling as many posters as they used to. You see some bands that sell posters and hardly anyone buys them...they don't want to go there.
One of the band members was on tv and was basically begging to be doing something with Pearl Jam and people are debating posters?
He flat out said, I don’t know what we’re doing and that he wants to be doing that very badly.
i agree with what was said before, either he wanted to spill the beans about the record being done and ready to release, or trying really hard not to say that some others in the band are not that interested.

my guess, with musical output of all other band members, he's most likely referring to Dear Leader.

since flipping isn't allowed here, and frowned upon generally, that's either sarcasm or a really stupid thing to say. maybe it's because they realized they could profit off the secondary market as well with their charity auctions?
It did not come across as sarcasm. Someone here might have recorded those shows. I'd be curious to see how my memory holds up on this one.
so if that's true, he basically states that 10C prefers to fuck over the fans and benefit the flippers. good to know.
The secondary market and speculation is necessary to drive the sales and to get things off the shelves in the primary market.
Without limited runs and scarcity, they do not sell a whole lot of stuff. The microeconomy all this creates is beneficial to the business.

yes, now that everyone has explained it, I feel like a dope! LOL
kinda stupid how we humans (MYSELF INCLUDED) automatically get all bent out of shape and buy things we might normally not just because it says "limited" on it.

It does seem like they talk out of both sides of their mouth though.... the artists too. Hate flippers, no resale, etc.... but then create and foster an atmosphere where that stuff thrives, and also get caught saying something like Bierman did.
I don't hate it so much, as I have always been able to get posters to shows I have been to without paying a premium price. I also own some prints that appreciate in value well north of $1000, and I would be lying if I said there isnt a degree of greed/pride aspect to that.
I would love the ease of a poster pre-order with 10c tickets though. I hate dealing with that the day of the show or obsessing about pssssts, or fighting bots at AP sales.
