    Other sites are reporting it’s super hot and hard on the ears.  Definitely looking forward to folks’ opinions on here, since it’s the only one of the 3 I haven’t cancelled yet based on crappy sound reviews.

    If i am absolutely honest it sounds softer to me. If any difference at all
     I honestly prefer the old. To my battered old ears the old sounds punchier. But im no expert.
    I thinl you need a very trained ear to notice anything at all. But I look forward to enlightenment. I want to hear something different

    I listened to riot act vinyl. Just remastered i believe but again i don't get whats changed. Just my opinion though.

    Drums and bass are pushed forward in the mix.  More low end.  Kind of reminds me of the changes Bo'B did on the Ten remix.

    If you were a fan of what Brendan O'Brien brought to the table with his remixes on Ten and Temple of the Dog, you will perhaps enjoy this, too.  Personally, Avocado has always been a favorite but now I can appreciate it on another level. As great as the songs are, the original could almost be grating to my ears at times.  Perhaps an added effect of the "loudness wars" that seeped into most albums during that period.  More than anything, the new version eliminates the shrillness of the original.  The guitars sound crunchier and the drums especially pop out, similar to their cover of 'Again Today'.  In fact, the drum sound may have benefitted most from this new mix.

    And here are some examples after the first few listens.  The solo on Big Wave and Comatose are more frenetic.  The acoustic guitar at the beginning of Gone and especially Inside Job sound warmer.  Come Back is even more stripped down, with a lot less focus on the guitar in favor of bass and drum, lending a newfound soulfulness to an already heartfelt song.  With some of the high-end eliminated, certain aspects, such as the e-bow opening of WWS is pushed back.  

    As a whole, the new mix allows for more dynamic range and less shine than the 2006 version.  Plus anytime B O'B is involved, we are guaranteed to have Ed's vocals upfront and loud.  My main criticism, however, is burying McCready's guitar fill during the "break the sky and tell me what it's for" line in Parachutes.  That's my favorite part of the song!

    My ears tend to be totally fucked in that anything around the 4k frequency really huts my ears...Unless it's my setup accenting this the remix hurts my ears lol. But it seems alright.

    I like this new mix. Its not as harsh as the original. Plus its neat to hear some new elements standout that maybe got lost before. I like Ed's vocals a little better in the mix than so upfront like on the original. Drums sound great. 


    On Apple music it was neat to A/B this. In iTunes you can go back and forth between the pages. Clicking on the 2017 mix, the original is below in the More albums section. clicking on that and then using the back and forwards buttons makes it easy to jump between the two.

    You guys already have it on vinyl? My order from 10c is still warehoused and it seemingly isn't being released in Canada until December 1.

    Thats kinda what I have been reading. Some love it, some hate it.

    Your never going to make everyone happy. PJ has never released anything near audiophile, so I think people need to start coming to the realization (myself included) that great sound will probably never happen from their discography. Sounds great through earbuds though...lol

    It’s to be expected, you can’t please everyone.  Muddy was a common description though.

    Their live sound is incredibly muddy so maybe they were going for that experience.

    I'm confused. Nothing was changed for RA and Binaural so how can they be muddy? It's just a remaster. Do you think the OGs were muddy too?
    It's a hopeless situation...

    I got my RA from a local store and l
    Spotify has them so I listened to avocado on there. 
    I have no idea of the difference but that's not to say there isn't. My ears are fucked. Im interested in opinions though so i can listen out again. All good fun

    The dynamic range numbers according to Dr.Loudness,  says the new one is almost twice as loud as the original.  :(

    Finally got mine from Amazon and spun it last night. I don't have an original pressing, so I can't compare it to that, but overall it sounds fairly well mixed. I found the crash cymbals sometimes get some high end distortion. I don't know, we can pull it apart and analyze it all day, but I'm just very thankful to have an official pressing.Damn happy.
