    Hey people,

What are your opinions/thoughts regarding some of the references in Bushleaguer?

What does onion skin plausibility refer to? What about 'that song about today'? and of course 'columbus decanter'

    ...i await!

This has ogt to be the PJ song with the deepest lyrics and meaning in the entire PJ catalogue, it even beats out Yellow Ledbetter in my opinon.

You seriously thought that Ledbetter has deep lyrics?

I stopped following the tunes when my leg of the tour finished. ;)

Good to know they did play it once. They should have played it more then! :)

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. Of course both bands toured back in 91' 92 so Ed would have had a lot of exposure to the song. It might also have referred to all the momenteum that came with Clinton coming into the Whitehouse. It just seems strange that Ed would refer to something like that...

Would I also be off the wall to suggest that Bushleaguer is similar to I Believe in Miracles at a slower tempo? Finally, does the "Blackout" refer to the power outage experienced by the Great Lakes region a few summers ago? Or is it used in a different context?

    Thoughts people

  • I am definitely a Bu$hleaguer lover after having heard the 2003 live version..The lyrics are great and the music at the end of the live version gets kinda psychadellic and in my opinion, should last a bit longer..:P

First, I should say I'm a W fan as well as a PJ fan.

    As for your questions:

    With onionskin plausibility of life.

I think this means with the aftermath of 9/11 ( which resulted in crying... or onionskin) came validity of life... remember how you felt after that day? Remember how things were? How happy you were to be alive and try to help.

    That song about today...

Refers to 'nationbuilding' which Gore said he was for and Bush said he was against during prior to the 2000 election.... hence Eddie says "now it's tomorrow and everything has changed"... because we are in a way nationbuilding. Remember Eddie supported Nader in 2000 and some believe he cost Gore the election in 2000.

    Columbus Decantor...

Refers to the dialect of new discovery.. the dialect of a new mission... hence Bush's speeches after 9/11.

Anyhow, I'm not a fan of the lyrics... I think Eddie could have made his point without actually singling out Bush, and it could have been a better swipe at 'all' politicians... but I do admit that I listen to the song a lot on Riot Act, the music is really good, I just wish there was more singing and less talking.

YOU CAN'T BE NEUTRAL ON A MOVING TRAIN.
  • in halifax, ns, eddie introduced the song by saying "this song is about...an asshole". loved it right away...knew what was coming...and the song rocked!
  • It's funny cause I was just thinking about how great this song was the other day. I had'nt listened to Riot Act in a long time so I poped it in and remeber how great some of the songs on there on, including BUSHLEAGER! :)
I hope to see it live when pj comes back to the states.

I´ve got a friend who doesn´t like this song too much. I´m sure he only did not pay that song the close attention it deserves.

People, give Bushleaguer a chance. I guarantee it´s worth it.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Rock on people! So glad to see more coming out and voicing their love for the LEAGUER. Such a catchy, rockin, witty song! And YEP...STONE NEVER FAILS! :D Again, I'm sooooo glad it made an apperance in '05. I totally agree omniscient, it DOES get psychadellic live. They jam the hell out of it. I love that! Seriously, seeing this one live just really opened my eyes, heart, soul. It just HIT ME. I have a feeling we'll be hearing it in '06 too! :D;) BRING IT BOYS!!!!

"On one hand, it was sensationalized. On the other hand, I think everyone in the band would feel like it was a good thing to have happened," Gossard said. "We felt strongly about the song. It was a song we wrote before the war about George Bush - not about the soldiers or the United States. It was a personal view Ed had of the president, and it was very comical and a sort of theater.

"There was so much lining up by the media to throw their hat in for this war that Ed felt it was worth that conflict to make the statement. I can't say I would have handled it the same way, but I'm proud that he was able to make that statement and follow through on it."

    HELL YEAH! :D
