I haven't been here for a while and I don't know if it's been brought up yet, so forgive me if I'm behind, but I work in radio and one of our PD's told me that his record rep told him that PJ will have a new album out by the end of the year. This is the best news that I have heard in a while.

Yeah, but they began recording Riot Act in February 2002 and finished it in May 2002.

But we're also assuming that they're doing things the same way...who knows, with the way the music industry has been changing so much in the past couple of months.

YEAH, they started sessions in feb the year before and had no tours in between, that album took 32 years, and they also mentioned having songs written duirng the binaurul tour.

Who knows, they may be in the studio now finishing up songs, I am sure they will rehearse a little before June. And some songs are probably left over from Avocado.

is there anything, you think, in their contract that they have to produce an album every so many years or no? dumb question?

They don't have a record contract any more. The deal with J Records was for one album, so they don't have to go back with them for the next one. They can pretty much do as they please at this point.

It is quite possible we may all be surprised on when this next album really does come out. There was an article out a while back(forgive me I can't locate it at this time.) But during those Avocado sessions there 72 songs recorded or played. They may all ready have the music, never know...

    interesting!
i personally was thinking more along the lines of a spring 2009 release, especially given the timing of their minitour this summer. although i guess if they really head back home after the east coast, still plenty of time to get it together for a late-year release. :)

i'm all for new pearl jam - whenever! :D

thing is ed has been writing like crazy for various projects since 'pearl jam', one can't help but think he's got some thoughts for a new PJ album.

i sometimes amaze at guys like jack white who can do a raconteurs and a white stripes back to back.
then there's the constant (at least it seems to be constant) chris cornell stuff. kinda makes you wonder if PJ feels the need to tour with each album, or if they could put something out....then 9 months put something else out and just blow out an 18-24 month world tour. i know there's family implecations and all, but i know jeff, stone, ed and mike (and unfortunately matt) have ideas...why do they wait so long?

    just a thought....
  • They played Crapshoot a.k.a Comatose at a show in 2005. The Northwestern School Benefit, I believe. And Ed played Gone at one of the Borgata shows.

"Dinosaur" - They have never shied away from the fact that they are aging rockers, and this would be a pretty cool name for a big rocking album from PJ!

    :)

i dont really care when any new material comes out as long as its good, and ed showed with ITW that if they need/want to release things quickly they can.
But id prefer any new albums to be good, not quick.

And im still hoping that some of the tracks will resemble the atmospheric background tracks on Immagine In Cornice that were written by Mike and Jeff.
Mike was also doing music for soundtracks of somesort according to himself around that time....im expecting a much more varied album that Avocado
