Yeah, they are more stones than neil at this point, unfortunately
Yeah, Bruce and Neil have the luxury of being the driver and songwriter. Their bands are employed by them, so its easier for them to write/record based on their whims. Its more difficult to pull together when the band wants to collaborate, especially after getting older/having achieved peak success.
There is something to that.  But if it's tough to get the band together other than playing live, why don't we get Ed solo albums every year?

This part is understood and makes perfect sense, given where they're at in their careers and lives.  Annual tours (big or small) in between albums would still be nice.  Seems like 2017 is shaping up as a complete off year for PJ at this point. Whatever they do is cool...I'm just a fan who is jonesing to see some live shows!

This is why I like the residency idea. Knowing that they are committed to a few Seattle shows every year at least would take some of the bite out of these long droughts.

Hopefully we get some new tunes and some good YouTube videos shortly.  It will be interesting to see if he breaks out any new stuff.
I wouldn't expect to see too much on youtube... they are tight on that stuff and will have it taken down...

I agree if he breaks out new stuff.  But If it's more like his last solo tours I would still be excited but would rather see the whole band.  Hopefully he has some new stuff to wow us with.

And the other source was from one of their crew, I believe a sound engineer, who said that there would be shows late in 2017. Not sure if recent events change this, but a small West Coast run late Nov/Dec could be possible.

I happened to be thinking about this yesterday. I also wonder why Eddie is the one member of PJ who hasn't really had any side projects for a number of years. Mike, Jeff, Stone, and Matt have regularly had TONS of stuff happening on the side, but Eddie hasn't done anything other than a few singles and one-song collabs. I am not accusing him of anything or asking anything of him, but I am simply wondering why he isn't creating more music than he is and why he doesn't really collaborate with others much at all, given that he is a musician with a shitload of connections. Hell, he hasn't even added much of anything to his solo tours - he's still basically playing the same stuff he's been playing since Uke Songs. It's a little surprising. Maybe he's just worn out/burned out... Maybe even blocked. I can't imagine what else it could be. I know he's got a family and everything, but he is a musician. Musicians don't stop making music just because they have kids.

Exactly. That's what I'm holding out hope for, and not willing to call 2017 an off year until someone more credible than Chelios says so.

When we can expect new music and more shows!
its may 2017..about 2018 pj  tour its too soon to announce.

Everyone, Dimitris usually has the inside scoop and I would read between the lines.  No 2017 tour.

My only hope is a spot at Bridge School.

I think it's a good point. Based on the evidence we have from his 1ish solo album (I see ITW as a soundtrack that he did as a favor for Sean Penn - and while it's all him, it's not really a solo album, it's refelecting the film and not really him), I think he writes all songs for PJ and songs that don't make the cut he'll give them life as a solo thing. Weren't a decent portion of the the Uke songs played live at solo shows? I'm guessing the bad said no save a couple and so he put them out.

If my my theory is off, I bet at the very least he gives the band first show of the songs. And seeing as they record so infrequently he sits on them until they do.

As as an aside, I bet we do get a solo album this fall. I have a feeling a US (well, a portion of it) solo tour is in the works. I have nothing to go on other than he has some festivals planned and one off appearances take a bit of work and cost to get a crew together, so may as well play some other shows to make it worth the time and money.

I believe that the majority of the Ed original songs from Ukulele Songs were written and recorded between 2000 and 2002. A good chunk were played at a couple benefit shows in 2002. The album was rumored for many years as a very emotional album and, given the lyrical content, was not planned on being released. I'm honestly not sure what made him release it, but I'm glad he did.

(I hate posting from a mobile here)
So Can't Keep got the full band treatment, Goodbye was released on a Jack Johnson soundtrack, You're True was played at a PJ encore. I believe those songs plus Broken Heart were the only ones released prior to the full album.

If they have decided 2017 is an off year then that decision itself is news that could be reported. Just a simple blurb in the newsletter that says there are no tours planned this year. If they don't know for sure that's one thing, but if they've decided then they can say that. DMB took this year off and told their fans they were taking this year off. It doesn't have to be a secret.

but we know this band works much differently than other ones. EVERYTHING is a big secret.

Foo Fighters' announced hiatus was shorter (I believe) than PJ's break between albums/tours. That's hilarious.

to be fair, though, if something doesn't come to fruition, this place holds a GRUDGE.

Totally. I never understood why 10C has this kind of 'veil of secrecy' going on the way it does. It's hard to imagine a real purpose for keeping fans so much in the dark about things they way they do. A lot of bands keep their fans updated with "no news" just because it's personable and fun for fans when there isn't anything major going on. Keeps people interested and engaged.
