I've heard some serious grumbling from economists about how they are making all the exact wrong moves for an economy so strong that's 10 years deep in growth, and that the moves will make the coming recession worse.
Now is the time for raising taxes and lowering deficits, and Trump/GOP doesn't have the balls to go against their base, which doesn't understand economics in the slightest.
They are right.  The economy is overheating and at serious risk for inflation.  My biggest bitch about the tax cuts was that you take away an effective piece of ammunition when the real downturn inevitably comes.  Can't cut any lower...
exactly....from what I am seeing the tax cuts are worthless if you are middle to lower income...UNLESS you have kids.

I have three kids and it hurt me.  I was way above the standard deduction, but now I have to take it.  I did get hit with AMT from time to time.  If that's gone for me, that will take some uncertainty out of it.

Business owners definitely pay less.  I said before that my tax will drop quite a bit...but it's still fucked up

They are intentionally strangling the economy.  Now that they have passed tax cuts on their rich friends, they can focus on cutting social safety nets like Medicare, SSA, SNAP, ACA etc.

“We're going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” Paul Ryan said during an appearance on Ross Kaminsky's talk radio show. "... Frankly, it's the health care entitlements that are the big drivers of our debt, so we spend more time on the health care entitlements — because that's really where the problem lies, fiscally speaking.”
    ...aaaand there it is...
Trump proposes cutting entitlements by $1.7 trillion — enough to pay for $1.5 trillion in tax cuts

Continuing Trump's plan of doing the wrong thing, at the wrong time for the sake of short term political expediency...he is also trying to do infrastructure.  Because nothing is smarter than trying to create a bunch of new gov't contract jobs when we are at 4% unemployment and at risk of inflation.

  • He thinks Canada is treating the US really badly:

We lose a lot of money with Canada. Canada does not treat us right in terms of the farming and the crossing the borders,” he said at a White House event on his new infrastructure proposal.

“So they’ll either treat us right or we’ll just have to do business a little bit diff… really differently,” he said. “We cannot continue to be taken advantage of by other countries.”

But in actuality... that's not quite accurate:

The sum of our trade, including both goods and services, is essentially balanced. In fact, in 2016, the U.S. enjoyed a trade surplus with Canada of close to $8 billion (U.S.). In manufactured goods, your surplus was nearly $36 billion,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a speech Friday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. “Those are American numbers, by the way, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, in the Department of Commerce.”

In a better moment... Trudeau went on to say, “Trade is not a hockey game. The truth is that both Canada and the United States are winning. And so is Mexico. And that’s how we should keep it. When trade is working as it should, all partners win.”

That's exactly right.. everything is transactional to Trump.  And it's binary.  In a deal, you must have a winner and a loser.  It's so bizarre for a businessman to think this way, but it seems so clear.
