I can tell you that the party got off its ass for this election.  Over the last week I received about 4 texts and two door knocks (Sat and Sun) making sure we were hitting the polls.  I was downtown last night and on several overpasses, there were large groups of people with big light up signs saying "VOTE DEM".  You could tell the turnout was going to be strong.

On another note, my son (15) and two of his friends were supposed to volunteer for Northam today for a school project.  Well not surprisingly they fucked that up and didn't get to the training in time.  So they went to a polling station and there was a nice guy that worked for a GOP candidate and let them hand out some flyers in a tent even though they didn't train.  Long story short, a woman asked them if they were young Republicans and they all said "no, we're actually more Democrats".  And the woman proceeded to cuss them out including some some racial overtures and then walked away.  They were shocked, particularly because the one kid was black.  Anyway, the good news is that he has to write a paper about his experiences so at least he has a decent story now.

Too bad he didn’t film it and post it on YouTube. Either way a good experience in civics for him and hopefully he’ll be engaged going forward, regardless of which party he identifies with. I hope he gets an A on the paper.

    Wonderful.

It's even better when it's the School Board that's insulting students individually, rather than just a random voter:

Nice to see the teen being more adult about the situation than the adult. And honestly, if I were christian, I would be mightily pissed at this guy for using christianity as the basis for his behaviour.

I probably should have posted that in the Idiot thread.

I am Christian and Christ preached compassion, forgiveness, acceptance and of course welcoming of strangers (like..immigrants!).  It's in both the New Testament and the Old.  It's even Leviticus for God's sake.  It's really sickening how so many Christians twist or outright ignore the actual Word of Jesus.  The worst is the so called "prosperity gospel", where these preachers justify their own wealth which is a direct affront to the New Testament.

the moron endorsed Gillespie one day, then after he loses, he tweets that he didn't work hard enough and didn't embrace Trump or his message. what an asshole.
Barely minutes after he lost too......plus this guy morphed into Trump 2.0 in the last few weeks.  Trump lives within his own reality.

why we got canucks in the trump thread?
Because we share the longest border in the world with you and we’re not naive enough to think that we’re exempt from some madness flowing up here? Because our social and economic trends are historically linked with yours to a degree? Because we have empathy? Because we’re engaged citizens who recognize we live in a global environment? Pick any, and remember that you’re on a discussion board where there are no borders.
lol, read a newspaper in Canada compared to the US rags.  There is so much world news that is heavily reported that we don't hear much about or get exposed to at all.  Canadians seem so much more aware of the outside world, while Americans seem to be very US-centric (other than when we focus on an 'evil' country to rattle sabers at like Iran, Iraq, NK, etc....)

I agree. watch CNN as compared to CBC news. the difference is striking in local vs global coverage. maybe we don't have enough drama in Canada?

I know dems are anxious to echo MSM and say last night was a rejection of Trump but Im not so sure. First, these were state-wide races not the mid-terms, the mid-terms will be the real test. Second, Va and NJ were carried by Hillary not Trump, if Trump had won those states then I would be more apt to agree with the Trump rejection theory. Lastly, Gillespie is a swampy establishment candidate that ran a centrist campaign, he actually rejected Trump and instead had W campaigning for him. You can place one word next to Guadagno defeat, Christie.

In any event alot of good things happened last night, anti establishment candidates won including many minorities, even Muslims, a transgender won, women won, ME voted to expand Medicaid and few more that slipped my mind.
