i've been thinking about this. i mean, i put nothing past this loser these days. who has authority over when and where the election happens? does the current president have anything official they have to do for it to take place? or is it a neutral body that does that? would trump have the power to try to delay the election, say, if the virus goes apeshit in the next few months and he uses that as a way to weasel his way out of losing?

i'm no conspiracy theorist, but it occurred to me that trump and his cronies are reopening the country in order to create an even bigger national emergency to give them the appearance of a reason to delay the election: public safety.

How can they try to delay the election at the same time they are telling everyone to get back to work, get out there, get normal? Isn't that the definition of insanity?

And I thought it's in the Constitution that the election must be held and if it isn't, the next in line becomes the President? That would be President Pelosi.

Individual states, if their state constitution allows for it. If the Feds did it, it’d have to be a law passed by Congress and signed by POTUS, and then withstand court challenges. The parties can penalize states by not meeting certain deadlines, mostly around when primaries have to be completed by. Presidential elections have been held continuously since 1845. The “rush” to reopen certainly weakens the argument for postponing or delaying but demanding to do so might suppress turnout, which is all the repubs have left in order to win.

Maybe the repubs will roll out a health care plan better, more tremendous and cheaper than Obamacare and run on that? Or run on Obamagate?

all that means is dirty campaigning wont get investigated etc.

States hold and are responsible for making elections happen within the laws of that state. So other than the constitution mandated day in Nov and other regs. Its going to happen.

they can't stop the electoral college from voting but what they can and are trying to do is limit the access to mail-in voting. this is their new way of voter suppression. knowing some people may be reluctant to go to a public polling place during a pandemic the republicans are already doing whatever they can to limit the access to full mail-in voting. they have already tried to suppress it in California. It is also another sneaky reason by Trump talks about dismantling the USPS.  If the USPS goes out of business before the election how can we have mail-in voting?

The Supreme Court gutted the voting rights act in 2012 and since then swing states with the gop in charge have been implementing strict voter ID laws that allow IDs such as military and NRA to vote but does not allow state college IDs, so the law operates to limit democrat leaning demographic populations from voting.

No need to delay the election. Our glorious leader will be re-elected with 46% of the vote, which is fairly close to his current approval rating.

my point was if the GOP shenanigans in Wis surrounding the primaries , including the WSC brought Ds out even in the face of CoVID , I think they will come out again in Nov.....

I'm am or I was before the pandemic. I do private duty nursing on Palm Beach island but that all came to a halt as my clients went into lock down mode. I told them that it's best they stay home and stay safe until there's a vaccine, they're just too vulnerable to this virus.

 These wealthy folks are all snowbirds and this season is basically over this time of year. Hopefully, they'll return in the fall, many are flying out in their private planes. So until they return I'm a food specialist at BJ'S. I just hope Trump won't return to that club at Mar A Lago till November.
