So i'm reading an article on cnn.com about obama's new book, and i couldn't help but wonder....are we going to get a trump book? will he have written any single word of it? or maybe just the title, "The Best President In History", or "A Presidency Stolen: The Most Accomplished In A Single Term"
That dumb arrogant fuck will absolutely title it: 'Donald J. Trump: America's Favorite President'

Yes, good article. It's interesting what the author says about flags. Also about how people will cling to something, no matter how absurd, as a way to feel a sense of connection and purpose. But still, I can't feel sorry for people having that kind of need when what they cling to is so destructive, full of hatred, and void of reason. Sad, sad, sad.

That was good, but I would like something a little deeper. There is some sort of sense of 'belonging' these people crave, and being a megafan of Donald trump somehow quenches that thirst. Why is this happening, and why is it happening to so many people.... and people of a lot of different backgrounds?
The whole flag thing is bizarre. I drove by a house this morning that looks ready to topple over. There was a giant flag with Trump straddling a tank, ripped with muscles, and holding an automatic rifle. WTF? Does this person think that Donald Trump would give one shit about this person outside their vote and money? Is it belonging to some club? Is supporting Republicans somehow making this person feel like they are a member of the country's elite class and they see Democrats as a clear class below as black people living in projects and using our tax dollars on rims and Obama phones?
Its astonishing how many people buy into this, despite so much evidence showing what a farce/scam this family/administration is. Wealthy, educated, successful people at work are going on about how the election was rigged and how Trump was winning before all these votes 'magically appeared' over the following days. They think Andrew Cuomo is making mask mandates and shutdowns in order for some sort of authoritarian takeover of our state? Or he hates WNY because we dont heavily support him and he is punishing us with more rules?

I think it's a little bit of everything right?
These are people who have culturally, economically, and educationally been left behind - whether by their own will or not. The vocal minority is incredibly small, the ones that make the news - my personal viewpoint is the "Trump Safari" (when news outlets go and interview Trump voters) need to be done away with ASAP - but the fact remains that 73M+ voted for this dipshit. That speaks to this dipshit being normalized, the selfishness of people along with the fear of The Other, and ultimately a lot of right-leaning and conservative people digging their heels into the ground knowing full well they're wrong because they do not want to admit The Libs were right.
Like my dad for example. Not a Republican. Voted for Trump twice. The 1st time I gave him the benefit of the doubt for falling for the Drain The Swamp nonsense. This time it just makes me realize he really is the idiot I think he is for other reasons. And the racist he is, and I'm honestly trying to still come to grips with it. It's weighing on me, and I don't need to start a full out fight with the guy for being a fucking moron. But what I do know is he was essentially left behind - unemployed, "retired" now, a casualty of being a mechanic and the Great Recession, incredibly small minded. He doesn't quite understand how personal it is that he voted for him to me. And I know I'm probably going to make him feel like shit when I bring it up to him in the sense of, "What world do you want for your grandchildren, my kids? What if either of them are gay/transgender/etc, has friends that are people of color, marries an immigrant, etc? What then? How can you look them or me in the eye? I want my kids to know that the world is full of love and we should help one another regardless of skin color, religion, creed, or wealth." The thing is I know he's thought of none of this.

The longer this legal farce goes on and the more I hear otherwise educated Trump supporters talk about a rigged election the more I think he has a chance of flipping something and staying in office. We’re talking about a guy that has a history of drawing out legal battles. Some wins some losses. As for jearl pams comments about trump safaris only finding the worst people, I’m not so sure. Maybe it’s because I don’t know any republicans that aren’t at least entertaining some aspect of this farce. So far all the trump voters and republicans I’ve come across from hillbillies to people with advanced degrees have been talking about the rigged election. I would like to hear from some of these so called Republicans that are in touch with reality, so far that seems to be a minority of the trump voting population.

In Heather Cox Richardson's latest letter (see Mickyrat's thread), she says:
"Trump’s erratic behavior is starting to alarm even Republican lawmakers,
who have kept silent as Trump has done pretty much whatever he wished
for the past four years. His firing yesterday of Christopher Krebs, the
nation’s top cybersecurity official, led some Republicans to speak out
against the president. “I’m sure I’m not the only one that would like
some return to a little bit more of a—I don’t even know what’s normal
anymore,” said Senator John Cornyn (R-TX)."
I think what we need to hope for/ push for is for more Republican lawmakers to do the right thing and speak out against the soul eater's erratic, abnormal behavior. If Trump somehow does flip this thing and maintains the office for another 4 years, we are all going to be totally fucked. There is no way this does not lead to irreparable damage. More Republicans need to get off their ass and speak out against this tyrant who is hell bent on destroying America.

My 'step-dad' and mom were Trump people as are my in-laws.
Its nuts... but for the most part, they are heels dug in Republicans based on the fear that they are being taxed at 90% and it is all going to lazy blacks who live in a lap of luxury smoking weed and laughing at us. They are locked in and will never pull anything but a red lever.
They were actually quite worried in the Spring/Summer about Covid and were seeing (and commenting on) how woefully disastrous and unqualified Trump is/was. My wife thought they were seeing the light, but I assured her that they would never, ever vote anything but Republican. Sure enough, later in the Summer, my inlaws were bitching about BLM, and how "they" "wanted" to do away with the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, etc.
I was quite pissed at my mom in 2016. I was explaining that Trump overtly wants to disband the EPA. My career/job is very dependent on a viable EPA and funding from that. I was showing her that my kids, her grandkids' source of shelter and food on the table is based on that and this is an acute decision. My 'step dad's response? "What about the coal miners". I blew up. How many fucking coal miners do they know?

I expect they will do anything to stay in power Brian. It’s sad really. Corny Cormyn is a disgrace to the state of Texas right along with Ted Cruz. His statement is telling. He can’t even bring himself to use trumps name or have a call for a return to normal. “I don’t even know what’s normal anymore” is not good enough. I’m preparing for the possibility of us being well and totally fucked even if the chances are slim it won’t be the first time he has exploited every known loop hole to get his way.
Opinion: Been injured in an election? Call Rudy Giuliani now! Opinion by Alexandra Petri November 18 at 4:34 PM EST Hi! I’m Rudy Giuliani! Have you been injured in an election? Do you think you should be president, but due to an unexpected setback, you’ve wound up short by thousands of votes in key states? Hire me, and you will get the settlement you deserve! And I mean the settlement you deserve! I put the “personal injury” in “personal injury lawyer”! Most lawyers are chasing after the ambulance, and not the reverse, but I guarantee that if you have not already suffered a strange injury, I WILL inflict one on your case, through my precise level of knowledge of the law! Do you have a weird laptop of unclear provenance? Do you need, not a good lawyer, just someone who is technically a lawyer? Call me, the former mayor of New York, a man who has been a candidate for president and who once took down mobsters but is in a Different! Place! Now! Have other law firms withdrawn from your litigation on the grounds that an attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the election is not something they want to be a part of? I won’t! Call me! My cellphone number is readily available! Maybe TOO available, and I DO text back, even if I don’t know who you ARE! I have almost THREE DECADES OF EXPERIENCE since the last time I was in a courtroom! But my skills remain just as sharp as my understanding of the law! Please pay me $2,000 an hour, unless you want to pay me a different amount; I’m going to leave it up to you! With me in your corner, judges will be wowed. Most judges who have had to deal with me so far have been rendered TEMPORARILY SPEECHLESS and also MADE FACES! I guarantee OPACITY — is a word whose meaning will elude me when I appear in court on your behalf! I will say something to the judge like, “I’m not quite sure I know what ‘opacity’ means. It probably means you can see, right?” and then the judge will say, “It means you can’t,” and I will say, “Big words, your honor.” That’s the kind of legal representation you can expect from me! It’s on the record! I promise that, when it comes to standards of scrutiny, I will get “the normal one” applied on your behalf! I have never heard of strict scrutiny and I won’t ask for it! Sean Hannity thinks I’m doing a GOOD JOB! Can you afford literally anyone else to represent you? Don’t do that! If you aren’t a lawyer yourself and don’t know what a lawyer ought to sound like, or basic details of the law, I bet hiring me will seem like a great idea! I am definitely a lawyer! I have a surefire way to overturn any election result you dislike, or this isn’t the Four Seasons Hotel! Call toll-free now!
