I can't get past that it takes two sides and both really just don't give a shit about the people. I don't see it any other way.
No compromising.
Really?
The Dems refuse to budge with a gun pointed at their head. The stupid wall is a bad idea. Bad ideas cannot be allowed to germinate. This shutdown is completely on the repubs (I'd like to buy an 'e'). They can own it- let's not spin the narrative at all.
Compromise? What's the compromise in wall or no wall? A nice little 5 foot picket fence with attractive landscaping?
"10. Trump’s $5 billion is a laughable drop in the bucket for what would actually be needed. For example, according to the Cato Institute: An estimate for a border wall area that only covered 700 miles was originally $1.2 billion. How much did it cost in reality? $7 billion. And that’s only for 700 miles. Whatever we think it’s going to cost, experience shows us we must multiply it by more than 500 percent."0 -

The fact of the matter is that everyone, oh and I mean everyone, knows that The Wall is nothing more than Trump's campaign promise to his base. No one else really gives a flying fuck one way or another. So say The Dems "compromise" and gives fuckface $5.7B and gets 570 miles of fence/wall/dildos for a country border that is 1,954 miles. People don't want to wake up that the whole thing is a fucking charade.
No one to blame but the fuckface in office.0 -
Here's the thing.. Trump has offered NOTHING of value for the wall. The 3 year DACA extension is worthless. It's only 18 months in the real world, tops, and it would just be another political football should he win re-election. Temp extension for a permanent wall is not a deal. Now if Trump offered green cards or actual citizenship, well then that would be something.mcgruff10 said:

And the greatest hypocrisy by the Hard R's is clutching their pearls to the ideals of fiscal conservatism when there couldn't be a greater waste of money (to go along with the handling of the budget, which the debt is on track to hit $1T - with a T! - for the first time since 2012, and at least then we had the excuse of the worst economic downturn in the country's history since the Great Depression. Inexplicably, this time we don't have the luxury of that excuse.....but politics! Blame on both sides!").0

It seems that, generally, people and communities actually on the border don't want the wall. Their elected representatives don't want the wall. Land seizure is but one of the many items on the list they don't like about a wall that's unnecessary and damaging.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

Ignored all the studies on how to actually solve immigration. Just gimme my wall because I want a monument to stupidity.
Did not consult actual engineers. Did not take into consideration ongoing costs. Did not consider affects on the environment. Did not consider the costs associated with court battles to actually acquire the land. None of these costs were taken into consideration.
Just gimme my wall because I want a monument to stupidity.
Meanwhile, what's the dems platform?- Once the government is reopened, the Democratic Majority will immediately begin debate in committee on the supplemental discretionary funding request by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for border security. This will allow DHS leadership to explain in detail how the funds will be used and whether this expenditure will have the reported results presented by the President.
- Guarantee a vote for the supplemental funding request on the House floor by the end of February.
- As part of the supplemental funding request, members will be able to offer amendments to address the current gaps in protections for Dreamers and those enrolled in Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and those currently in Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforcement Departure (DED).

AND for those us who may not have taken a goddamn civics test recently - again, to blame anyone but the R's and fuckface is ab.so.lutely comical: if fuckface wants to veto the bill the House can come figure out this shit without his "Wall". R's are on record saying they don't give a shit about the wall. There surely is compromise to be had here, and none of it includes a wall.
Guy pulls DACA, then pivots to the extremes, then wonders how we can help those who are "marginalized"/innocent. Boy, are we a dumb fucking country. We deserve this.

Yeah. It would be irresponsible, fiscally and in many other ways, to just fork over billions for a wall because Trump's been playing hardball since the Dems took the House. There are times when both sides do in fact suck. This is not one of those times.CM189191 said:

He's going to declare an emergency and take the funds from that. Democrats will sue using the Truman case as precedent. There will be a stay for a year, no wall will be built. Eventually the case will be decided likely for the Democrats (the House, specifically) as they have the power of appropriations. That's been my prediction from day one of the shutdown. I still think that's the likely outcome.mcgruff10 said:

I can't get past that it takes two sides and both really just don't give a shit about the people. I don't see it any other way.
No compromising.
Really?
The Dems refuse to budge with a gun pointed at their head. The stupid wall is a bad idea. Bad ideas cannot be allowed to germinate. This shutdown is completely on the repubs (I'd like to buy an 'e'). They can own it- let's not spin the narrative at all.
Compromise? What's the compromise in wall or no wall? A nice little 5 foot picket fence with attractive landscaping?
Ignored all the studies on how to actually solve immigration. Just gimme my wall because I want a monument to stupidity.
Did not consult actual engineers. Did not take into consideration ongoing costs. Did not consider affects on the environment. Did not consider the costs associated with court battles to actually acquire the land. None of these costs were taken into consideration.

Let's not forget that the R's want shutdown of the government. It's Grover Norquist's Wet Dream.mrussel1 said:

Yes, that's the other possibility, a handful more Senators defect to make it veto proof. It's a good point. Senators not up for primary in 2020 may be inclined to do so. Trump may even signal that he won't call them out if they do. This would give him a way to save face to his base as well.Jearlpam0925 said:

$1.8BB has already been appropriated and not a penny has been spent. How about spending that and issuing a GAO report that explains to the American people what they got for their down payment? Team Trump Treason hasn’t a fucking clue.OnWis97 said:
