It might not necessarily be in the army, but if they can doctor or teach or contribute in another meaningful way... that would qualify. I don't think a country should be expected to just accept anyone because they show up.
With that said... the wall will prove to be useless. People that are advocating for it right now have consistently complained about misspending on the part of government. They need to figure out exactly which principles they truly stand for.

Once that Great Wall is built that the US will pay for there won't be ANY money left to patrol the border. Therefore, using ladders, tunneling would be more able to be accomplished. Using the BILLIONS it will cost to construct this GW, use it to strengthen our infrastructure which is falling apart as we speak.

Me being an immigrant and knowing exactly how it feels not to be documented I'd say slot of young folks would voluntarily go for it , i said the government should say to illegals if you want path to citizenship you have to serve for 4 yrs otherwise you will stand to be deported if caught by immigration dept ....catefrances said:
