Edited to add: Anyone ever been to an Ani Difranco show? Screamers, man. It never stops. She kind of handles it the same way Ed does, sometimes with humor, sometimes open annoyance, sometimes playing along...but I think it's the same thing where her songs are just SO personal that people feel like they know her, and they want her to know them, too.
YES!! I've been to many Ani Difranco shows and those screamers are the worst! It wasn't so bad in the late 90s/dilate days but man they have gotten SO bad. Actually, it stopped me from going to her shows after a while. She handles them quite similarly to the way Eddie does actually. I just don't understand it ... don't people buy tickets to concerts to hear the ARTIST perform ??
the BAND Pearl Jam has all of us expecting a sick performance every night, with an energy level so high we can barely contain ourselves from moving, jumping, screaming, being free and releasing ourselves.
Now, Ed comes out with a solo tour and granted I see the point he's trying to make..its like..ed wants a one on one with us..an intimate night so to speak where we all just kick back, chill and let him entertain us like he's the storyteller around the fire in the middle of the woods so just shhhhh.
BUT, like me the 1st night I was at the edge of my seat the entire night, NOT wanting to sit at all, fist in the air almost every few minutes, but being courteous to my neighbors, not singing aloud or yelling out requests. I understood what kind of show this was gonna be so I accepted it and out of respect for what ed was trying to do I refrained from yelling shit out..same thing I was telling Joey last night...dont do it..if anything wait till he talks about NY then we can throw a lets go rangers chant out there..never happened so we did it during encore..no disruptions, no disrespect.
We either all need to realize this and accept it for what it is..its not gonna be a ROCKING SHOW!.... and if we DONT...well the next few shows are only gonna get worse. Also as a rock star ed should realize that not EVERY person in attendance is a diehard, and just like himself people llike to get FUCKED UP but not every one is a good drunk... so I guess he can either accept that and be like Fuck it..what can I do or tell them to shut the fuck up but putting it as nicely as possible like the whole Im an Idiot comment cause basically thats what hes trying to say..SHUT
THE FUCK UP!
all in all I think collectively Ed as an artist and us as fans can find a better way to come to this understanding.
Aah, fuck it, I’m just gonna go home, turn on the fuckin’ TV...
Watch the nightly news and drink a beer...
Like I could even change the world, yeah right...

I swear....I have to stop reading these dumbass threads because all i want to do is NOT go to DC.
If the f-ing manners police are going to be at either of the 2 shows...leave your badges at the door.
i totally see where you are coming from - but i don't let screamers ruin the show for me either. if the fans bothered me that much, i just wouldn't go. but why can you be tolerant of the screamers at a show, and not be tolerant of the people complaining about the screamers on the internet. how can a silly thread like this make you not want to go to a show?!
many were complaining about the screamers on monday night, and quite frankly, i didn't think it was bad at all. also it bothers me a bit that all screamers are associated with drinking. i drink and I don't get obnoxious and loud. some people can't handle their liquor gracefully - true; but some people are just plain disrespectful - beer or no beer.

I think you may have inadvertently hit the nail on the head with my annoyance.
I like to drink.
I keep my cool.
I was being facetious when I said it made me not want to go.
And Stickboy...that means ALL smoking lovey.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

I'd be careful there.. that pedistal you are on looks mighty high.
thats great.. you drink and you keep your cool.. moral to this story.. others don't.
bottom line.. it gets irritating.. if it doesn't irritate you then congrats you will have a fabulous time in DC
Fragglerock? Are you serious? That was what provoked the deathstar stare from Eddie? What the hell does that even mean?
Apparently, many people mistook Liam Finn for *Animal*, Muppet and drummer with the rock band "Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem". Adding insult to injury, while all Fraggles are Muppets, all Muppets are not Fraggles, so screaming out "Fragglerock" was totally uncalled for - perhaps "ELECTRIC MAYHEM" would have been more suitable.
On a serious note: Tomas Young is in my thoughts each and every day. I look forward to his documentary "Body of War" which will be released in NYC sometime in October.
How much good is it really gonna do to yell out songs that he clearly is NEVER going to play solo, like SOLAT, Leash, Dirty Frank, Hunger Strike, etc? Just serves to piss him off like at the show the other night
Um, am I not hip to some hidden fragglerock/PJ connection?
Could it be he yelled, "FRAG IRAQ" ??? which would kinda be a pro-war shout-out and something that would moreso merit the buzzkill?
Wild... regardless. We actually had a lot of fun with the idiots on the west coast, nuthin that completely changed the tone, but the mindless top-o-the-lungs sorta "THANK YOU FOR MILLWORKER" shout-outs were kinda .... lame.
Where-as "VITALOGY" led to one of the funnier moments at Berk2!
"Get me an accordian!"

Haha - thanks for the explanation! Can I guess that you have kids? Or maybe just a really good memory from our childhood...I thought the Animal thing with Liam too, it's not just the hair, he has a whole intangible Animal quality for sure. I wonder if Eddie misheard the Fragglerock as some sort of jab at his friend. Who knows. Just hope people keep their traps shut for you all tonight, wishful thinking.
Ms. Goldenwords - hi! Ed and Ani remind me of each other a little. I think it's the mumbling/rambling stories, which I find adorable in both.

People are uncool, that is why.
Yes, it sucks that people are screaming out, especially if it is interrupting something that obviously affects Ed dearly. But you are dealing with the human race.
Dirty Frank..lol

Yes, I do have kids that watched both the Muppet Show and Fragglerock back in the day. I find it ironic that Animal's band was Electric Mayhem which could be one way to describe Liam's set.
Touchofgray--love that name btw, but get it together and fix your quote button ..
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'

THAT soooo made me laugh! good point! hahaha.
in all seriousness, i don't get what the problem is here? this IS a message board dedicated to pearl jam, in fact hosted by pearl jam, their offical board and blah, blah, blah. so why is it surprising that people are discussing shows, and actions, that both please and displease them. isn't that what it's all about? discussing? guess i missed somewhere that we can't discuss what annoys as well as pleases.
i agree, the shout-outs are annoying. it IS disrespectful in many ways to ed, to ANY performer at all. i don't put anyone in demi-god status, i just don't get the rudeness. i also don't appreciate the disrespect to fellow fans/concert-goers who ALSO laid out $80+ to see the performer and not listen to your lame-ass disrupt the flow of a show. in the scheme of things, i don't really care...very little affect on me, on my enjoyment. in regards to the one specific incident before body of war i most definitely didn't hear the comment but it was obvious ed was perturbed. now i see why, and i totally understand. it's not even a respect issue about ed, but about a veteran, and a person...and a whole subject...near and dear to ed. tis a shame. however, i hope the rest of the crowd helped ed to see we did and do care. it is always moving to hear ed speak and sing about what he cares deeply for and is impassioned about. part of the reason i so enjoyed seeing him solo. amazing experience.......:)
btw - october eh? i'll have to keep my eye out for it. thanks for the info.

Ditto - politics is another common thread between the two - nice to find another fan of both - there aren't many out there - oddly enough.
