THE SOFT PARADE (1969). The bands fourth album and their first dip in quality in my opinion. It still sounds like The Doors and Jims voice is as charismatic as ever - but the album is more of a wash. Many of the songs don't stay with me.
I think most Doors fans would agree that this is their weakest album.  3 or 4 good songs but the rest not so much.

Runnin' Blue is fun though. If you imagine Bob Dylan singing with Jim.

MORRISON HOTEL (1970) This album has a weird vibe. Wanting to go ”back to basics” but to me it has always felt like a B-side collection - a bunch of leftovers that lack that little final polish. Didn’t know untill now that some stuff on here are leftovers from the past. I had figured Waiting for the Sun was - but didn’t know that the soothing Indian Summer dated back several years. Eddie Vedder did a great version of Roadhouse Blues when The Doors was inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame. Well worth a watch.

What this album lacks is a great album closer!  All of their other albums have a great extended closer!

Yeah, thought about that. Where is my song named "Morrison Hotel" clocking in at 10+ minutes?

L.A. WOMAN (1971). The de facto last album of The Doors, with Jim Morrison dying shortly after. The album sounds raw, moody and honest. The second half loses me a bit.

Not really connecting with it. Always found the second half of the album being a meandering wait for Riders on the Storm.

But, because you brought it up I will listen to it now again.

OTHER VOICES (1971). A pretty damn cool sounding album. Would have been elevalated a peg by Jim Morrison still being around - but in no way are the songs miserable without his vocals. Really dig Ship /w Sails. The artwork is elegant as hell too.

The song Peace Frog can carry this album all by itself.  Man I love that song!

AN AMERICAN PRAYER (1978). These posthumous releases, where explicit blessing hasn’t been given (in contrast to the case with Leonard Cohens last album) are always a bit iffy. On principle. But you can’t deny the soothing power of Morrisons voice and the layers of music the band has put behind them. It’s a great experience.

Yeah, I was a bit hasty on Hyacinth House. Been listening to it - and the demo of it - and it's a lovely song.

All good albums by the band.

Glad you gave it another chance.  Some songs take a few listens to understand and appreciate.  Sometimes they are the best ones because they get better with every listen.

I think I fell into the trap of disregarding what I disregarding in my youth. During my teens, I never paid it much thought.

Just recently watched the movie. Val Kilmer did a good job playing Morrisson. Been listening to their music ever since.

I'd like to get a RSD release or something with Val Kilmers vocals on the songs. I don't think that has every been released, like on the movie's soundtrack or something?

In the actual film, don't they mix and blend between him singing and Jim Morrison...?

" In the film, original recordings of the band are combined with vocal performances by Kilmer himself, although none of Kilmer's performances appear on the soundtrack album."

Seems Kilmer himself put up a video a few years back of him singing a couple of songs at rehearsal. But the video is gone.
