Vice President-elect Pence, we welcome you, and we truly thank you for joining us here at “Hamilton American Musical,” we really do.

We, sir, we are the diverse America, who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights.

But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us. All of us.

Unfortunately the audience demographic listened to actors on stage and on TV ignoring the voices of the underemployed and unemployed.

Mike Pence’s Hateful Laws Almost Kept Me From My Dying Wife

When a federal trial court ordered Indiana to recognize our marriage on an emergency basis because of Niki’s declining health, Governor Pence immediately appealed. He wouldn’t allow the state to protect even one family with a dying parent—my family—while the court case made its way through the legal system.

After the Baskin plaintiffs won a sweeping victory, ordering the state of Indiana to recognize our marriages and give all same-sex couples the right to marry, Pence again appealed and the court put our victory on hold. Given Niki’s grave health, our lawyers asked the court to lift the stay on an emergency basis, just for our family. But even that wasn’t acceptable to Pence—a lawyer for the state filed papers in opposition.

Ultimately, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Indiana was violating our constitutional rights by enforcing its same-sex marriage ban.

Niki passed away shortly after our marriage victory.

And Trump is tweeting that pence was harassed and is demanding an apology, saying the theatre is suppose to be a safe space.

But i thought only the left was full of snowflakes who needed safe spaces? If pence thought that was harassment, he is the most overly sensitive and reactionary person in history.

If it had been the opposite.....HRC winning and shiwing up at the play, and they addressed her with concerns of transparency and peace, I wouldn't have an issue with that either. Politicians should expect to be addressed at any point, in any situation (except maybe a funeral or the like).

True..the regular joe goes to the theater for an escape from all the political bs. Now the headline is this instead of the performance. Not a huge deal but i could do without it.

Politics influences almost all aspects of life. When you're VP you need to expect that people will address political issues with you in public at any point, and you will need to be responsive to the population. Simple as that.

Nah your wrong. Just because your a politician you don't have to be responsive at any point. If your trying to have a nice quiet dinner with your family or doing whatever there is no need to respond to the idiot trying to make their point.

Maybe not the time or place.
The actor that spoke asked the audience to record and post to social media.
The actor fyi is a black HIV positive male that attended Columbia and Oxford.
Trump understandably defended his VP with his tweet.
Pence is a big boy, I doubt it bothered him or hurt his feelwings.

What would be role reversal? If actors attended the WH, okay to call them out on something?

Wasn't white America offended when Af-Am actors protested and called out the lack of Af-Ams at the Oscars? I forget which awards it was.

I would agree that politicians don't need to engage with people trying to interrupt a family dinner, but (1) this was not a family dinner, (2) these were not "idiots"; they delivered their message briefly and respectfully, (3) a higher position such as VP demands greater investment and willingness to engage with the population , and (4) being responsive doesn't necessarily mean you talk with people but you need to understand that your presence represents the government and your position in it at all times so people will use that opportunity to communicate their concerns.

It was Completely appropriate. An African-American, gay, HIV-positive man, performing as Founding Father and drafter of the Constitution, Alexander Hamilton, before Mike Pence, the Vice President-Elect, a leader of the country, the man who disrespects the Constitution and ***wants to defund HIV treatment and instead use the funding for gay conversion therapy***, delivered a poignant post-show message pleading him to protect and serve ALL Americans, all while Pence tried to scurry out of the theater and avoid listening to his constituency.

BTW, if you know anything about Broadway plays, The cast routinely does speeches at the end of the show, anything from happy birthday to a cast member to political speeches to giving to various charities.

...and who are the crybabies now?

To be fair, theaters are not a 'safe space.' As I recall, Lincoln was shot in one.

    Nor was he harassed.

Some of the best and most relevant art involves social and political commentary.

And interesting that Van Zandt would be against political statements in art, given his own performance history, both with Springsteen, no slouch at political commentary, and his own solo career with its anti-Reagan and anti-apartheid songs. Guess he lost his fire as he got older.

It doesn't make them look small, it makes Pence look small.

Imagine being a black, gay person whose HIV positive. You Are a hated MINORITY by the VP elect.

Now imagine that the new VP thinks you need shock therapy.

You have the microphone and it is a regular night where you make a speech after the show. AND this hateful man is there.

    YOU have the microphone.
