Why would anyone be so naive as to suggest that the Democrats need to shift even further to the left with Warren as the candidate to win the next election? Do any of you know anything about how politics work? The progressive movement, already on its death's door, has been decapitated with this election. Warren can't save it.

It's not about Trump and this one election. Conservatives -- the really hard core ones -- have succeeded at infiltrating every level of government from the state governors' mansions to the federal Supreme Court after a generation of slow, steady plotting while nobody was even looking. This really was *the* election to win. It's done for us for at least another generation. Maybe when the freaking millenials actually grow up and learn some things about how government works, they'll take it back, but damn do they have a lot to learn before that happens.

For now, we're stuck with the Paul Ryans of the world who were groomed as Young Republicans 25 years ago by Newt Gingrich, et. al, with a copy of Ayn Rand's Fountainhead under their arms. That shit worked. Look at us now. Where we are today can be traced back one election at a time since 1990. Google it and you will understand what I know to be true.

Step down off your pedestal long enough to point the finger at your own party.

the will turn out to be the election of the "disenfranchised" ... republicans against the "establishment" had a candidate ... democrats didn't ... so, the republican disenfranchised came out in droves while the progressive disenfranchised stayed home ...

If Bernie Won Democratic Primary, Would We Now Be Looking at a Sanders Presidency?

    From Bernie:
Donald Trump tapped into the anger of a declining middle class that is sick and tired of establishment economics, establishment politics and the establishment media. People are tired of working longer hours for lower wages, of seeing decent paying jobs go to China and other low-wage countries, of billionaires not paying any federal income taxes and of not being able to afford a college education for their kids - all while the very rich become much richer.

To the degree that Mr. Trump is serious about pursuing policies that improve the lives of working families in this country, I and other progressives are prepared to work with him. To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him.

Sanders Just Responded to Trump’s Victory

In a viral Facebook post, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) has vowed to do everything in his power to block President-elect Trump’s agenda.

Sanders acknowledged that Trump’s narrow victory came about as a result of a wave of anti-establishment anger directed at Washington insiders like Hillary Clinton, and that Democrats failed to predict the wave of populist outrage that gave the GOP nominee a game-changing advantage.

However, the Vermont senator is rejecting President Obama’s and Clinton’s calls for unity behind the new president, saying he’ll only promise to work with Trump if the president-elect is serious about implementing progressive policies. Simultaneously, Sanders, who is the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee, pledged to block any and all legislation Trump proposes that seeks to ensconce what he referred to as “racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies.”

“We will vigorously oppose him,” Sanders said at the end of the post.

Sanders’ status update has gone viral, accumulating over 30,000 shares in less than 30 minutes as of this writing. Read the full post below...

Sanders is a ranking member of a MINORITY coalition. He has no power to block anything! The Chairman of the committee -- which he could have been had Clinton won -- decides which bills go to the floor for a vote based on the MAJORITY opinion.

Like I said, get a clue. I'm not on any high or low horse. I'm just stating the facts of how government works. Of course Bro would issue such a statement. That's what politicians do -- issue statements. But just saying it does not make it so.

Warren is probably the most likely today but the election is four years away. Who knows what will happen between now and then. The Dems need to find multiple qualified and intriguing candidates. They can't just decide beforehand whose turn it is to run. Let them have a legitimate primary contest where the voters truly decide who the nominee will be. Let that be the ultimate lesson of 2016.

The reason this election turned out like you did is because the democratic party ensured that Hillary would win it. And she didn't. Bernie Sanders had a better chance of beating Trump and you know it.

I think everyone agrees Bernie would have crushed trump top to bottom.
    No, everyone doesn't agree.
Old people voted in large numbers and old people hate the word "socialist".
There is no evidence, aside from early polls that you don't believe in, to suggest that Sanders would have won.

Forget Dems, open up field and allow 3rd party candidates! This country's voters - more and more - are LEAVING the corrupt 2-party system. Just look at Sanders' legacy. Voters want CHANGE. And we have to work for that.

It's true, BernieBros need to realize this election was a massive repudiation of liberalism. Not just a rebuke in the short term, the consequences of a majority GOP government in all branches will be a generational setback.
BernieBros thought that Trump couldn't win so they set out to tear down the only chance they had at maintaining progress that was always tenuous.
You BernieBros are Icarus, and you brought everyone down with you.

ya ... not sure why people aren't willing to see the obvious ... trump's win in the rust belt (areas Sanders was highly popular and obama won the last 2 elections) was the anti-trade and anti neo-liberalism policies ...

his message clearly resonated with both the disenfranchised and youth ... of of whom decided not to come out and support clinton ...

agree. Bernie won the rust belt in the Dem primary. not saying he would've beaten Trump but he wouldn't have lost all three states.
remember- Hillary was put over the top by the southern African American vote that ended up being inconsequential in the General Election.
    DNC fucked up.
