i have some extra pj stuff laying around and thought i'd come up with an interesting way to get rid of them. i pose to this following riddle, first to answer correctly and be able to actually describe how they got that answer gets the package.

so a woman i work with has three sons. the one day i was curious so i started talking to her about them. "how old are they" i asked. she responded with "well if you multiply all their ages together it equals 36." i asked her for more information and she said "if u sum up their ages it equals my address." still needing another hint i asked her for one more bit of info and she said "my oldest son has blonde hair." how old is each of her sons?

yes this does have a legit answer, good luck ;)

    9x2=18x2=36.

    and you said my oldest son has blonde hair so it made me think that the 2 others were twins or alike.

    ok, the correct answer is 2, 2, and 9 but nobody has offered a reasonable explanation yet as to how they got this. remember, all three clues are important, not just the 36!

    Assuming he knew her address there are only a few combinations that when multiplied = 36. Only 2 when added = the same # (1, 6 ,6) and (2, 2, 9) but she said oldest son had blonde hair so would have to be the 2,2 and 9. Not sure if i explained right

    BINGO! :) congrats! pm me your address
  • i got it

    the childrens ages are 9, 2, and 2.

    I got this by figuring out that the 2 possibilities to get 36 is either 9X2X2=36 or 6X6X1. Then, because of the last statement about the oldest child showed that the twins could not have been 6 because then there would be no oldest child. Therefore the children are 9, 2, and 2

    Of course there could be an older child. Twins don't pop out at the same moment. Even so they could not be twins, but still born in the same year.

    Riddles suck.

    look at it like this, first write down every combo of 3 numbers that multiply to 36. 1 1 36, 1 2 18, 1 3 12, 1 4 9 and so on. then sum up each of these combos 1+1+36=38, etc. since the person still needed one more clue, that means there is still more than one possibility of a correct answer. as was stated by horse, the only two that sum up to the same number are 1+6+6=13 and 2+2+9=13. since she said oldest SON (singular) that means the oldest doesnt share his age with either of the other 2.

    2,2, and 9 (of course 2 x 2 x 9 = 36)
    the address is 13
    and the whole thing with the blond hair- "blond hair" has nine characters, therefore the oldest son has to be nine ruling out the other answers of 1,4,8 and 1,3,12
    EDIT: wow I suck
